The8thDeadlySinParticipantJust saw on twitter that the Bulls interviewed Harrison Barnes and were very impressed.
Also, there are rumblings that the Bulls are very upset that Deng is opting to play for his country instead of getting the ligamates in his hand repaired.
Could the Bulls use Dengs strong season to trade up in the draft? People know that Deng is productive but, this year, he carried a large load and did it well. And let’s not forget, most of the year, he was playing with a bad hand.
Would the Wizards, Cavs, or Bobcats be interested in a package, including Deng, for their top 5 pick?

NihochuParticipantI think maybe this could be good for the Bulls if they could get someone like Barnes. However Thibodeau LOVES Deng , always played him for almost the whole game for the whole season even when he was hurt. I think if they did do something like that maybe some arguments and instability would occur. There is a lot of offense in this Draft, however Deng is a winner and is very good for a team.

Hi its BenParticipantBarnes isn’t the defender that Deng is nor does he seem to have the potential to reach Deng’s level on that end. It would be a big downgrade at the 3.

river09ParticipantBarnes type of game really does remind me of Deng’s. Not the quickest with the ball, but very effective spotting up. He has the potential to really be a great defender as well with his size and athleticism, also strikes me as a really cerebral player which usually bodes well..

HaleParticipantI like Barnes but it’s not a risk I would take. Deng is an excellent defender and the guy who guards LeBron and the other top wings, I don’t think Barnes could handle that for at least a few years.

PabloFiascoParticipantNot a good idea….this would be a major setback for the Bulls. Barnes doesn’t play anything like Luol Deng. And to get rid of an All-Star veteran for a rookie w/ a large learning curve on a contender w/ the star DRose out for a few months…thats a No.
Don’t get hype just b/c the Bulls interviewed him. The Celtics interviewed several high lottery picks their not likely to get as well

surveParticipantI have learned to stop looking at things from my perspective all the time because these NBA suits think totally different behind closed doors. It’s a very plausible idea. Trading an All-Star for a rookie/draft pick has happened before. While Barnes is a ways from being close to Deng in defense…Chicago has excellent team defense. Barnes does have more offensive upside than Deng as well. Barnes’ body is more prepared than Deng’s when he entered. Deng has worked really hard in the offseasons to get his body and his strength right. The big thing here I think is….the fact that with Barnes you bring in a guy who just turned 20 with good upside against a guy who has likely reached his potential and just turned 27. The value for Deng is very high at the moment if you are a contender, so when better to trade him, plus open up some cap to bring in another good player? Also, maybe they are not optimistic about Boozer being with them for much longer either.
I would think this would be less likely if Rose were healthy right now and they were looking towards taking out the Heat next season. I think the personnel is looking at further bolstering a good team…but one with some injury and age creeping up.
This really isnt an indictment of Deng, but about flexibility and looking toward the future.
