Toronto Sends – Demar Derozan (3 mil) + Jose Caldaron (10 mil expiring contract/cap relif) + Ed Davis (2.27 mil) + draft considerations (either second round or next year first round)

    total salary = 16mil apx

Memphis Sends – Rudy Gay (16.4 mil)

    total salary 16.4 mil

—after this transaction memphis gets all expiring for cap relif and two young players (demar derozan/ed) and relieve themselves of rudys bad contract (19.3 mil/in 2015 is gays salary )

at the end of this transaction, the raptors still have the 8th pick and alot of salary cap so they draft a SG – Jeremy Lamb/A former huskey like Rudy (assuming he is there) + Sign Nash (which is realistic since news has linked him to Toronto) and a couple of FAs

    Starting lineup

    PG – Steve Nash

    SG – Jeremy Lamb

    SF – Rudy Gay

    PF – Andrea Bargnani

    C- Jonas Valanciunas

    1) is this a realsitc trade (as in fair for both memphis/toronto) ??

    2) how good can this team be?? (is it a good mix)

Obviously, like every other trade dreamed up on this board, this is very unlikely to happen.  However, this is uncommon in that it does make some sense for both teams.  Rudy Gay does not mean as much to Memphas’ success as they are paying him.  He is truly not worth that contract to them.  On the other hand, his contract works out OK for Toronto.  This basically gives Memphis a get out of jail free card (if they want one) and hooks them up with a couple of young assets with minimal potential.

    Not a terrible idea.

its also works better then the reported 8th pick trade because it allows toronto not to have to pay Derozan alot of money next year (FA) and can ride out Lambs (or which ever SG is avilable’s) rookie contract which will be after 2015 which is the same time Rudy becomes a free agent.Meanwile Memphis can pay Derozan and still wont lose out because even though he might not be as good as gay (he wont be gatteing paid anywhere near as much as gay and his 16+mil a year contract)

I like the idea of the trade for the raptors because like you said they can ride out a rookie contract of the sg they have available at 8, and as bloodshy said gay doesnt mean everything to the success of memphis. My only problem would be for memphis and where they would get the majority of there outside scoring from since without many deep threats derozen doesnt seem like he’d be able to successfully get to the rim enough to make this trade statisically worth while.

The reason why the Griz may consider to trade Gay is his contract, your trade idea would not help their cap situation this year, so probably the Raptors would not need that many pieces to trade for Gay.

Gay is a good player, but he’s overpaid and he isn’t a super star franchise level player.  I would rather target Josh Smith who’s a better 2-way player and has a reasonable contract.

With Nasy and Gay, the team would likely make playoff, but won’t be good enough to win anything meaningful.  The Raptors would stuck with low seed or low lottery pick for 2 years.

I would much rather the Raptors seriously tank 2 seasons, accumulated draft picks and young talent and build from ground up than this kind of patch trades/signing.

I Hear Memphis would rather Trade Randolph than Rudy..Insiders say those in the Grizzlies upper management fear at any moment they’ll hear about ZBo getting into some serious trouble..Becuz of some of the illegal activities he’s been rumored to be involved with..He’s been on his best behavior since joining them..Plus his age and recent injury come into play..And some say Memphis moved the ball better when Speights was starting..But owner Micheal Heisley love both Rudy and ZBo,so i dont see either of them going anywhere this summer…

Oh Yeah,DeRozan’s Bad Acne ,will get much Worse,in Memphis around all those people BBQing and all of the Hot Grease….

In addition to Toronto wanting to move the No. 8 to pick to acquire a veteran SF, I’m also hearing New Orleans is looking for takers for the No. 10 pick in exchange for someone taking the horrible contracts of Okafor or Ariza off their hands.

If Memphis decides to trade Gay, I think they’d ask for a first round pick and either Ed Davis or DeRozan. I think the latter is not a good fit. Memphis should be looking for a more established SF (I don’t think DeRozan will play SG in Memphis).

I think Toronto could be an instant play-off team if that trade was pulled off and could really compete down the road.  That would also boost Memphis’ ability to take the next step, perhaps with a significant free agent signing and with the development of Ed Davis a a good back-up big.

Never thought about this trade but it sounds like a win/win for both teams. Memphis success has been apparent without Rudy Gay and they have a strong core without him already. Gay is a great player but he has yet to show that his play is worth the money, or that he can be a number 1 option. This trade would give Memphis great pieces to surround their team and only upgrade their bench and supporting cast. I think this pick could make both teams better, especially because having Gay in Toronto may lure Toronto to sign perhaps another bigger name player in FA.

The only downfall in this trade is that Toronto is rebuilding their franchise and Derozen and Ed Davis are key components in that rebuilding process.

Raptors need toughness and grit…why would they pick up gay…he’s just not viable as a first option..2nd option on a playoff team would suit him better…
