What the hell were the Brooklyn Nets thinking?!?

Its looking like the Nets will be Brook Lopez’s team again..

Prokerov’s impatience for wanting the Nets to win “right away” will hurt this franchise for many years. He has no basketball background nor has knowledge of building a team.

 I knew it was bad when they traded picks, Favors, etc. for basically 1.5 years rental of Deron Williams. They gamble on  everything and none of it has rewarded them.

Chad Ford said in his podcast with Bill Simmons that the Nets are close to a 3 year 24 million dollar deal with Gerald Wallace. We have a good feeling that D-Will is gonna go wherever Dwight is. We know the Magic are very interested in Brook Lopez and Marshon Brooks. We know Kirilenko, Bojan Bogdanovic and Mirza Teletovic are both very interested in joining the Nets. We know that Gerald Green has emerged as a very strong rotation player. A lot of pieces have to fall in the right place but all I’m saying is don’t count the Nets out until Dwight is traded somewhere else. If they do get him, the free agents they’re looking at and Williams and Wallace stay, they should actually still have enough cap room to go after a guy like Ray Allen who wants to win somewhere.

The point is, A LOT of things need to go their way but I’m not counting them out until they don’t.

Totally agree. I still think Prohkorov will still have a good chance at landing Dwight and keeping Dwill. Prohkorov will probably send everybody except Dwill to get Dwight lol.  Like Razor Sharpe said,  this guy has no bball knowledge whatsoever. He is more about spending big money on big players rather than trying your luck in the draft and taking the time to build a contender like OKC, San Antonio, and other franchises have done. Knowing the right pieces to fit around your star player or players. Knowing the right coach for the type of team you want. You can look good on paper, doesn’t mean you will produce. The Knicks with Amare, Melo haven’t made it out the first round yet and barely made it to the playoffs, The Heat last year made it to the finals but lost, even the 04′ Lakers had 4 hall of famers and lost in the finals. Great teams win rings at the end of the day, not one indivual player. Otherwise these star players wouldn’t be crying for help. How many draft picks has the guy traded in the last 2 years? I can’t keep count.

the Nets are trying to compete with a well-established fan base in NY. proky wants STARS for the meer fact that his investment will not compete with the Knicks without them. This isn’t OKC which would be patient for multiple lottery picks to grow together and potentially become a winning team. if we can’t put together a winning team now, they will be a mega bust for him.

You can’t spell BROOKlyn Nets without BROOK Lopez.

The Gerald Wallace trade is where they went wrong, that was a terrible deal, and now their going to overpay a guy that’s past his athletic prime, had they kept their pick, a package of Lopez, Brooks, the 6th pick, Bogdan Bogdanovic, and another future pick for Dwight and Hedo’s contract would have done the trick. I don’t like the idea of trying to form a team with two superstars and a bunch of scrubs, but that was their goal and draft weekend will be make or break for this franchise, they can hope that they get a deal for Dwight, and become a playoff team. But overall, Billy King does not deserve to be an NBA GM, he has proved time and time again that he can’t run an NBA team, and Provohorak is a joke, he’s a rich billionare that can’t stand losing, but isn’t patient enough to wait to build a strong core.

@ronniemiller I agree with you but look at what drafting a player and making a big trade has done for the Clippers. The Nets will always be the Knicks little brother. Just like the Clippers were always known as LA’s other team. The drafting of Blake Griffin in ’09 and getting Chris Paul has people has given the Clippers the greatest season in franchise history. They have been the laughing stock of probably all of sports for the past 30+ years. It took them just this year to get it right. And they can only get better. Now fans are debating which is the more popular LA Team. The Clippers still have Blake and Paul for a few years to get other people wanting to play with them. Dwight supposedly had the Clippers as one of his favorite destinations. Rome wasn’t built overnight. Neither will an NBA contender.

 Trading Favors (basically still a backup power forward) for two seasons of a top PG plus a shot at getting him long terms still seems like a fine trade to me. Remember Favors has now completed four years in the NBA. Right now he is just an average PF. He will sit behind a good PF and play ahead of a bad one. Unless he continues to get better he is just a decent starter. Hopefully he will get better and become a good starter, but he hasn’t done that yet. Two years of all star level play from Deron was something the Nets needed to at least not be the Bobcats.

Now the Wallace trade, I just don’t know about. The Nets could have gotten a good cheap player at the sixth pick in this loaded draft. Even resigning Wallace doesn’t seem like as good as, for example, drafting Sullinger.

favors completed 3 years

Favors just completed his second year and he only started a handful of games since he was behind Jefferson and Milsap.  He scored 25/10 in one of his rare starts and he became a defensive game-changer down the stretch for the Jazz.  And this is a kid that still doesn’t have a single go-to move on offense.  Favors, if given 30 mpg, would be a lock to average 16ppg, 10rpg and 2 bpg.  He turns 21 this summer and could be a top-10 pf as early as next year if he gets the playing time.  Enes Kanter (via lottery pick) and GSW’s 1st round pick next year were also given to the Jazz in this deal.

If the Nets resign DWill, this will not have been a bad trade.  I consider DWill to be a top3 pg in the NBA.  But the risks involved in making the trade (a 1.5 year loan + the mere chance of re-signing DWill) compared to the guarantees received by the Jazz… well, I’d rather be on the Jazz end of that deal.

 @TallmanNYC Favors actually played great in the playoffs and seems to be ready to take the next step. He is much more than an average PF right now.

How do you guys go from 2010-2012 and get 3 and 4 completed seasons? I’ll help you guys out. Put your hand in front of you, now put out 1 finger, theres 2010-2011, now extend another finger out and you get 2011-2012. Now take both those fingers and jam them into your eye ball socket for failing to count to two. 

Oh and don’t forget that the 2011-2012 season was cut short 😉 – but thats a technicality to be ignored since counting to two is difficult enough.
