The Wizards were the laughing stock of the NBA until the Bobcats proudly took that title off their hands. The Wiz started the season winning just 2 of their first 17 games. Washington began playing better once Flip Saunders was dumped and Nick Young and JaVale McGee were sent packing, Let’s have a look see at their current roster:

    PG- John Wall

    PG- Shelvin Mack

    SG- Jordan Crawford

    SG- Cartier Martin

    SG- Morris Almond

    SF- Rashard Lewis

    SF- Chris Singleton

    SF- Maurice Evans

    PF- Trevor Booker

    PF- Jan Vesely

    PF- James Singleton

    PF- Brian Cook

    C- Nene

    C- Kevin Seraphin

Now these guys have expiring contracts:

Cartier Martin, James Singleton, Morris Almond, Brian Cook, Mo Evans

None of those individuals are to be long-term commodities for this Wizard team but retaining a few would be smart, depending on the price, ofcourse.

    1) James Singleton, he’s a great energy player off the bench, low risk/medium reward, averaged essentially 9 and 7 last year shooting 55% from the field

    2) Cartier Martin, a solid scorer, can’t seem to stick for whatever reason, but hes got talent and a nice backup wingman

say the Wizards, for the sake of this post, receive the 2nd pick in the draft. Anthony Davis is drafted first, I believe the Wizards would benefit greatly by selecting Michael Kidd-Gilchrist. He instantly becomes their starting 3. Sign him for 4 years and 17 million.

In the 2nd round, with pick #32 they grab Wiliam Buford. They could use a guy that can stretch the floor. Deep in the draft, they swoop Tu Holloway from Xavier.

Rashard Lewis has an expiring contract next year and that is an incredible asset. Aside from his putrid contract, this team has cash to work with.

I would like to see the Wizards sign Anthony Tolliver to a 2 year/4 mil contract, he provides some shooting from the 3rd string center position. Other than that, with a mediocre FA class, this team looks to make big plays come summer of 2013

    2012-2013 depth chart:

PG- John Wall / Shelvin Mack / Tu Holloway

SG- Jordan Crawford / William Buford / Cartier Martin

SF- Michael Kidd-Gilchrist / Rashard Lewis / Chris Singleton

PF- Jan Vesely or Trevor Booker / James Singleton

C- Nene / Kevin Seraphin / Anthony Tolliver

this team has potential 8 seed written all over it

    what do you guys think?

Most guys are below 26, they need veteran experience and a seasoned coach. Discipline and team work should be taught to them. The only good thing they did last season was to trade Poor Shoot Selection Nick Young and Bad Block Selection Javale McGee. McGee did pan out good in Denver though. They still have another head case in Andray Blatche, he can be a solid player but his conditioning and confidence has taken a dip. Wizards office should trade him and with their lottery pick select a scorer or low post player.

I think they need a starting SG that can defend and shoot to move Crawford to a 6th man role, that would improve their god awful bench. Chris Singleton isn’t in any way a star, but he is a good defender that can shoot and I’d be fine with him starting.

Beal is a bit of a reach at two, but maybe they can swap picks with somebody and get a nice player out of it, if they get a SG with their first pick they should then draft a bench SF with their second pick maybe Jeffery Taylor, Draymond Green or Darius Miller.

Then they can amnesty Blatche and maybe trade Lewis, I like their roster going forwards

the Wizards are the one team that i can see taking Harison Barnes before Michael Kidd-Gilchrist just for the reason they need shooting around John Wall and Chris Singleton show some flourish to become an high level defender at the wing and it’s reduce some the necessity of MKG for them. but i could be wrong here.

what up with the high estimation about Bradley Beal and all the praise he gets he is very overrated in the draft world, i never see him taking over games in college, he could be great complimentary player but not a star.

Cartier Martin and James Singleton should be retained. Singleton did a great job communicating with young guys like Wall, Seraphin, and C. Singleton which is just what we need, a solid veteran around to show these young guys the right way to play.  Can play at both forward spots, set hard picks, developed a mid-range game when he was in China. Martin played solid as well shooting 39% from 3 and filled some of the scoring void with the departure of shoot first Nick Young.

MKG does everything the Wizards need except shoot well. But he fits with our transition/up-tempo style we are trying to play at. Could see the Wiz picking MKG and targeting a gem SG in the second also. They are a number of solid SG’s they could target in the second. Will Barton, Will Buford, John Jenkins etc.

Rashard Lewis won’t be with the team next year. They are ready to buyout his contract if they can’t find a trade partner. They will NOT pay him another 20+ mil to sit on the bench another season.

They need to target a veteran PG because Wall has no one to seek guidance from from his own position. The problem is find one that’s willing to sign to a struggling Wizards franchise. Also maybe go after Courtney Lee from the Rockets who will be affordable and a solid player until they can find a long term solution at the 2

That roster is pretty sorry.  Maybe they get lucky and win the lottery…  Anthony Davis and John Wall would be a great foundation.

If not, grab Harrison Barnes.  They need someone who can score right away.

I agree with your take on Siingleton and Martin. I think they should both be re-signed on 1-year deals.Mo Almond didn’t play much, but he’ll get a chance to show his stuff in summer league. Reportedly Mo Evans will be coaching the Wiz SL team, but I doubt he’ll be back on the active roster next year. And Brian Cook is the suck.

If we stay at #2, I’d rather trade down with Portland for their 2 picks, or with New Orleans if their 1st pick falls. But that’s just me the because I’m not the biggest MKG fan for this team. With #6 I’d pick Beal or Lamb, and w/ #11 I’d pick Henson or Sullinger (if both are still avaiable). With our 2nd round picks, I’d target guys like John Jenkins, Doron Lamb, Evan Fournier, Scoot Machado, and Will Barton.

Don’t know much about many of the free agents games, but I think we should sign a vet backup PG that can be somewhat productive when Wall is on the bench. I love to get Billups or Kidd at a moderate price, but if we can’t get them, I’d settle for someone like Kirk Hinrich. Shelvin Mack is garbage and I wouldn’t even mind if he was cut.

I just hope we win the lottery!

I’d also prefer that we use our two 2nd round picks to trade up.
