Should the Lakers go after Nash?

 No. As smart of a player as he is they need players that can be a new core for years to come. Kobe is still great, no doubt about it but where will this team be the moment he retires..? Bynum they need to keep around.. But who else would you want from this team in 3 years maybe even 2 years.. Nash would be past 40 at that point.. The incentive to bring in a big name right now for the lakers would mean bringing in someone who could make them compete for a championship immediately. I don’t think a  to be 39 year old PG is that guy. 

Lemme preface this by saying I hate the Lakers, haha. That said, I think if they got Steve Nash, traded Gasol or Bynum for an elite 3 and a decent 4, then they would be right back in championship contention. Everybody’s gonna be after Nash this offseason, and really it’s no question the Lakers are going to go after him. It’s really up to him where he goes.

I’d say any team that’s close to contending for a championship and in need of a PG should go after him.  So yes, they should pursue Nash.

They desperately need another perimeter scorer to help Kobe.  Nash would be the perfect fit.

They desperately need somebody to get Bynum and Gasol involved.  Nash would be the perfect fit.

Yes, they should definitely pursue him and most likely will.

Nash won’t help their defense against PG’s like Parker, Rose, Westbrook etc.

Obviously he’s still a top Pg on offense but would he choose the Lakers.

I think he’s headed to Dallas if Deron Williams resigns with the Nets.

Steve Nash is old.

 Nash is a good scorer,shooter,passer,playmaker, and is super tough. With that said, his D is atrocious and is actually worse than Sessions. Our inability to stop the high screen will still be there. Id take him w/o question, but it would work out much better defensively with dwight than Bynum. 
Or Josh Smith than Pau.

If Steve Nash were black, he’d be in the D League with Antoine Walker.

Unless Nash is willing to take a huge paycut, he won’t be in LA.

 Or PHX knew he was leaving and was willing to trade Morris/Glock,Eyenga,McRoberts for Frye and then a seperate deal of Nash for the L.O. trade exception 8.9mil. You could also add in Ebanks if they wanted.

Their problem down the stretch was their offensive flow.  Gasol and Bynum need someone to set them up better. I cant see Nash taking a MLE

Gasol will be traded this summer. That’s a given to me.

Houston will be interested and they can definitely put together a good package when you look at Lowry/Dragic, Patterson, Lee, Buddinger/Parsons, draft picks, etc.

You make some good points about his age and contract.

I read in another thread that his skills were on the decline… I’m not buying that. There isn’t another big man in the league that’s as skilled as he is.

His numbers did drop in the playoffs, but during the regular season he put up 17 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists and 1 block… Plus shot over 50% FG. He still has a lot of ball left in him.

I think he makes the Rockets a better team and gets them into the playoffs. He’s an elite big man and how many of those are in the league?

 The Lakers need to decide do they go all out to chase another title with Kobe or do they stat to position themselves to be in the best position when Kobe retires or cannot be the dominant player he still is. Kobe has two years left on his deal and I’d assume he sees that out, if the Lakers or he decides to seek an extension beyond that, the Lakers don’t have to put the no trade clause in I guess.

Personally I can see Kobe soon knowing when he is not the force he wants to be and deciding to get out but that could be a few years down the line, when you see Grant Hill still playing at nearly 40 and MJ was having some prolific games at 38/39, I could see Kobe being able to adapt and use his basketball IQ to compensate for a loss of his explosive moves. He’d still be an elite shooter and passer and might even move over to a PG role and control the tempo for his team mates.

As a Phoenix fan, I hope Nash remains but if he wants to chase a ring then LA could be an option but Miami may be a more obvious place.

 No because Nash has the most value with the ball in his hand. With Kobe ball hogging there really is not room for another guard to do much on that team. Nash would of course be an upgrade over Session or Fisher, but he will also cost at least $10 million next year. For that kind of money they can get a 3 and D type player for both of PG and SF and be just as competitive. 

LI think the Lakers might bet blown up because the personalities are at the breaking point it seems. But if they don’t it should be easy to improve at PG with defense and Small Forwad with just any young SF who can shoot threes.

 Gasol’s skills aren’t diminishing simply his confidence. He wasn’t driving the lane like he used to because he has lost SOME quickness and had began having stamina issues after the second game against Denver due to lack of frontcourt depth throughout the season and overuse by Mike Brown. If Houston was still interested in Gasol after LAST YEARS posteason, then I don’t see any reaso they wouldn’t be now, unless they were so interested because they were trying to go after BOTH Gasol brothers.
