Brandon Bass

When the Celtics play the D they played tonight they make life hell. Bass looks good playing with Rondo. No one player makes his teamates better than number 9 on the Celtics. Bass is enjoying his time with the C’s.

I know there are a ton of BiG Baby fans on this site but I could never for the life of me understand why ORL trades Bass for Genna Da… I mean Glen Davis…and then signs him for the same contract as Bass was making. I know Davis has good skills and he’s a wide load in the post, but he’s cronically undersized and underconditioned. Davis can hit some tough shots so I guess thats where his “skill” comes in, but the only reason he hits “tough” shots is because he’s not shifty enough to shake someone, he’s not fast enough to blow by them and he’s not athletic enough to out jump them. Hitting tough shots is all he has left and the last thing a team needs is to have its PF/C playing like Kobe out there. Do you really think Glen Davis could get up and down the court against teams like the Thunder or Sixers? He’d have a heart attack.

Bass was heavily critized for not having an outside shot in ORL. His shot seems just fine to me. Davis had the last 17 games to be the man and carry the load in ORL when DHoward’s back got saggy… the result was a 5-12 record down the stretch, and a few of those wins were gimmies. I think Bass woulda been much more helpful to ORL’s cause. Bass was good in Charlotte, good in Dallas, good in Orl, and now good in Boston… why trade him for Davis? Levoy Allen of the Sixers is looking like a better player then Davis already.

 That dude was great tonite man. His always seems to have an near automatic 18 ft shot, but he was explosive with his athleticism more than usual. We keyed on the other Celtic guys too much and Bass took advantage and had a monster game.

 I still think Bass is the weak link defensively that is going to hurt us down the road. He doesn’t have the length to guard scoring PFs, so how far the Celtics go will really depend on matchups.

If the Celtics run into either the Pacers or Spurs they are going to struggle, Garnett can’t guard Hibbert and West, but he can guard Bosh and let Bass chase Anthony, Haslem or Turiaf without getting burned.

 People like Glen Davis not because they thought he was better offensively than Bass, but because he was/is better defensively.  Davis played with incredible hustle, rotating well, drawing charges, and playing very good post defense.  Bass on the other hand is a poor defender.  Davis could be an offensive liability at times, but his defense and energy made up for that.

And for the comment about Davis not being able to run the floor against the Sixers, I don’t know what you’re getting that from.  Davis ran the floor MUCH better than Bass and supplied constant hustle.  He would go all out for every loose ball and run down the floor like his life depended on it.  Bass is the more skilled player, but he certainly isn’t the energy player Davis is.  Sure, Davis’ wasn’t always in perfect condition and he could get tired if given big minutes, but a lot of that is because he stayed in motion all the time and played with more overally effort than Bass, despite his weight.  

Good thing they are starting him. He plays great defense and can knock down those 15 footers consistently.
