UNCbasketballbumParticipantAustin Rivers is not a PG. Austin Rivers is not a PG. Ho many times do I have to say this? Even if you wanted to classify Rivers as a PG, he is not in the same galaxy as Kendall Marshall is in terms of PG skills, passing, running a team, making teammates better. Is Austin Rivers quicker, more explosive, more athletic, more tailored to the NBA game than Kendall? Absolutely. Is Austin Rivers a better PG than Kendall Marshall? Not on this planet.

bjcart53ParticipantRivers is not number 1 at any position and he definitely isn’t a pg.

WinterSoldierParticipantJust my opinion, He might be a better player but I don’t think he fits in with the team mentality that I like as much as those other two. My rankings are who i personally want on my team.

mosdefParticipantHe isnt a PG, but to be fair to Rivers, if everyone says he is more athletic, shoots better and a longer wingspan then if he was put into a team with a focus on the low post and wait for the kick out and knock down threes then he would have a better career then Marshall in the NBA. Just by saying Rivers is better in those 3 aspects of his game means he is a better prospect then Marshall. People write he isnt a PG cuz he has tunnel vision. Some people say he isnt a SG cuz he needs to get better being off the ball. If he isnt a PG and he isnt a SG, then why will he probably go int the lottery? There are some players that are just ballers that dont have a position. Marcus Camby when he first came into the league was too light for center but not offensive enough for PF. If you look at it now, Chris Mullin was too small for SG yet too small for SF.
Marshall made UNC better then the previous PG they had, I forgot his name, but to say Marshall made his teammates better and Rivers couldnt is hard to say cuz UNC has higher ranked prospects on their team. The athleticism on Duke has gone down dramatically. I will say Marshall was the better college player but just because you were good in college at a position doesnt mean it translates into the NBA. Rivers has more things that will translate to be a starter. I hate to say it but slow wings mean you cant defend on the win probably and if you cant shoot I dont care what team you get drafted by, you wont be starting long. Jason Kidd and Rondo couldnt shoot but they had long wingspans and were better athletes. Marshall looks like old Mark Jackson at 21 years of age

JM40ParticipantThe reason why I put Rivers ahead of Marshall was due to the fact that I believe he will be the first prospect off the board who can play the "1", and I see him as a a combo guard right now with the skill set to become a scoring PG in the NBA. I think he has the potential to be a Jason Terry/Devin Harris type. With Marshall, he is definately a much more purer PG, but I think his game is more comparable to an Andre Miller type. I would take Terry or Harris any day over Miller in today’s game. Kendall Marshall was facilitating to an NBA frontline in college, so I would expect his PG statline to be much better than other prospects. His athleticism and shooting abilities are huge concerns for me, especially on some of the "run and gun" teams drafting in the lottery.

scliddiardParticipantAs a point guard IMO there isn’t even a question, Marshall is hands down better than Rivers, as a team, it would depend on what you want and need. For my team I would take Marshall he runs the teams, is smart, makes his teammates better and has size and intangibles to be very good. Rivers is a good player and has potential to play both 1 and 2 , his shooting is his strength but pt guard not so much.
