Howard is a top 15 player in the NBA.

Today, for one game only, I would take, Yao Ming, Chis Paul, Deron Williams, Lebron James, Dwayne Wade, Tim Duncan, Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol, Chris Bosh, Dirk Nowitzki, Chauncey Billups, Tony Parker, Amar’e Stoudmire, all before Howard.

First, it’s a point guards’ league now, and you need a really good one to win, if you’re wondering why so many guards are here. Also, I can’t trust Howard in the fourth quarter when the game is on the line. He’ll miss too many shots and free throws. Heck, his teammates don’t trust him and probably won’t give him the ball.

I get your point about Howard. But can’t you see the potential.
I now this game was against the Pacers I believe, but how many times in your life have you seen a stat line like this.
I believe it was something like 45pts, 19 rebounds, and 8 blocks. You can’t deny the ability to dominate is there.

this is totally ridiculous. what are the circumstances? are these guys supposed to be “the guy”? because in that case how can you win with Billups as your star without a very talented supporting cast? We saw what Gasol can do as “the man.” first round sweeps. Parker without Duncan is not gonna get you far. Stoudemire without Nash isn’t gonna accomplish much in the playoffs. we’ve seen Bosh and Howard head to head in the playoffs and Howard advanced. if you put any of these guys on the Magic in Howard’s place, only Lebron would really make them better. if you’re saying all of these guys are just better than Howard, you’re clueless, but we already knew that.

Pau Gasol is the best skilled big man in the NBA. He did get abused by Scola, but really, Scola is a good player and very underrated. Heck, he was the best player in Europe in three straight years. I know Europe!! But he can play. You see it now. With T-Mac, Artest and Yao, he never had the chance to show what he could do because he was always the fourth or fifth option. He was drafted by San Antionio, but they didn’t have room for him and all but gave him away for free to Houston. Gasol, however, is better than Scola. Gasol is even more skilled than Yao Ming. I’ve never seen Yao lead a fast break, go between the legs, and throw a no-look pass to anyone. I know we all saw that Sportscenter highlight.

“I know we all saw that Sportscenter highlight.” There’s your problem right there, D-Hamp, you watch too much Sportscenter, buddy.
Dwight Howard is definitely top-15. Actually, he’s top-5.
In true D-Hamp style, here is my argument:
I would only take Lebron or D-Wade before him. I would want him on the floor during the 4th quarter. He’s too valuable on both ends of the floor. His teammates love him. Uhhh, Eric Devendorf is a mediocre shooter.

As far as Pau. He’s a reluctant superstar who never wanted to be the first team option. But that doesn’t mean his isn’t skilled. Being skilled and not using the skills enough when you have them are different.

His time with the Grizzlies was different. He had too many selfish teammates. White Chocolate Williams. Bonzi Wells, etc. It was a team of voltures and ball hogs. Pau being quite, he wasn’t much of a leader then or now, and reserved just took the back seat.

i think Lebron is in the 270 plus range. Howard is only about 2 inches taller. i know Dwight has wide shoulders, but head to toe Lebron is thicker than Howard and i think i saw the other day Dwight is 269. i believe 270 for Lebron could be accurate, not that it really matters.

Pau is a reluctant superstar? Cmon there is no such thing. As flawed as D Howard is offensively, he still wants the rock. He wants to be in that situation, to get better. Pau may have the most skills for a big man, but to be reluctant to use them make him an inferior player to Dwight.

There is no such thing as a reluctant superstar? Have you not hear of Rasheed Wallace? He may be a three-time all star, but If he wanted, he could’ve went to about six or seven. But he never cared about being a star or the number one option.

Gasol is 1A. Garnett may be 1B. I’m not thinking about Dirk. He doesn’t have a post up game. He’s more of a perimeter player.

thats not reluctant, thats being lazy. rasheed never put the time or effort into being a superstar. that called not having IT. The “IT” factor is having the will to fight through exhaustion, pain, and other obstacles to be the best you can. It doesn’t matter how many skills you have, if you don’t have IT you will never be a superstar period.

the phrase “reluctant superstar” implies that you actually are a superstar. Like Albert Belle in baseball. Rasheed is a “non-superstar”. lol

What? Rasheed isn’t lazy. He’s a team player. He puts the team first. He’s more than put forth the effort. And some would argue that he is a superstar. I would say he was a borderline superstar a few years ago. Just two years ago, he was unguardable. He’s just selfless.

i don’t agree with that. superstars don’t have years like rasheed did this year, regardless of age. he was lazy and unispired all year. Rasheed could have been great, but he wasn’t and speaks loudly about the kind of player rasheed was with his skills. He could have been better than dirk but he didnt want to be. And as selfless as Rasheed is most teams would love to have a player like Dirk.

KG is too old to be considered to me but he is probably the best skilled big man with Dirk and Gasol closely behind him. Also Dirk has added and inside game which may not be the best but it is adequate considering he is a pure shooter and about 7 feet tall. Dwight Howard is probably top 10 and also Howard’ s number are more an indication on the Magics style of play. Howard to me is like Shaq minus the passing. The Magics have yet to get a player that can feed the post well enough to get him the ball in keys spots. If i was Howard I would do a Shaq move of old and leave. Even despite having polished post moves, his foot work is pretty good for someone his size. they should also hire Hakeem to work with Howard more so he can add a turnaround jumper and a prettier spin hook or something. I loved Dreams move. Gasol is more skilled than Howard but Howard is bigger stronger and more tougher which are all must for a big man. Also having superstar skills and being one is different. Odom has the skill and talent to be Lebron before Lebron came into the league but he doesnt have the IQ or mindset to do it. He has the handles, can score inside outside and pretty much play all position to some degree. I am not even saying he is dumb when it comes to basketball because he doesn’t make a lot of dumb plays

If we’re talking post skills, then Duncan has the best post game in the NBA. I’d put Yao second with Gasol, Nene and Scola behind them. Garnett is more of a shooter than a post player, but obviously his skills are off the chart. Ilgauskas used to have some great moves down low but he’s lost a lot of quickness.

Like Shaq, Howard doesn’t really need moves because he’s so gifted athletically. Of course Shaq made up for moves with positioning and footwork, but Howard can still develop a better post game.

Pau Gasol, has never done anything by himself. With the Griz he was gone in 1st round.
Post players I would take over Gasol:
    1. Yao MIng
    2. Dwight Howard
    3. Kevin Garnett
    4. Dirk Nowitzki
    5. Al Jefferson
    6. Tim Duncan
    7. Amare Stoud
    8. Chris Boshemire
There are also many players who I feel that are about on pat with Gasol.
    1. David West
    2. Carlos Boozer
    3. Antwan Jamision
    4. LaMarcus Aldridge

These people are listed in no certain order. I just feel as if Paul Gasol has benn overrated by the one and only D HAMP.

named Kevin Garnett averaged 4 – 5 assists in 8 consecutive seasons, played the PG position during the TWolves playoff campaign against the Lakers, leads the fastbreak, and used his crossovers, shake moves and shoulder fakes to pawn a guy named Pau Gasol during the 08 finals. And oh, watch this for no look passes of the KG guy.

Some of you guys are mistaking skill with physical strength…

Look guys, Dirk and Pau have a finesse game which requires great skill to pull off. to play like them, you need to have a nice touch around the basket and great footwork among other things. Sure they get raped by powerful guys like Dwight, but you can’t deny the fact that they have abilities which most other big men today fail to practice.

Still, I would rather have Dwight on my team, though…
