Michael.S.ParticipantOn espn and other sources it is said that wizards and suns are willing to make a deal on the wizards trading their pick and another unconfirmed player to the suns for Amare Stoudamire.I would love this for both squads cuz magine rubio replacing nash or griffin replacing amare, and magine arenas, butler,n stoudemire on the wiz. What u think???

D HampParticipantI need more information on who are the other potential tradeable players and draft picks. However, Stoudamire may be the most overated rated player in the NBA. Even more so than Dwight Howard. Stoudamire is talented, but for a guy 6 feet 10 and with a 45 inch verticle leap, he’s never averaged 10 rebounds. He never could play defense and being in Phoenix and only added to his bad defensive habits. Um, outside of age, he’s not that much different from Antawn Jamison.
D Hamp….the most intelligent basketball thinker in the world. Next to Hubie Brown anyway.

grkgregParticipantcaron butler, mike james and there pick for stoudemire and there second round pick. that makes sense and the money matches, sounds like a good trade on both sides.

NYKnicksuperFanParticipantArenas has one of the biggest salaries in NBA(something like 8yrs 112mill) amares gonna want a contract that puts him on par with lebrons or kobes plus the fact that Jamison and Butler get payed a lot makes me think that this deal is happening unless tey get rid of Jamison and Butler in the offseason so basically u are giving up 2 established all-star veterans, a top 3 pick, plus other players in the Amare deal for a center however young and good he may be, he has also battled injuries, off the court issues and concerns about attitude
while Arenas-Amare would be the top tandem in the league they are also very injury prone

joecheck88Participantwhy would the suns want to add another wing? i like butler a lot but he needs the ball in his hands just like j rich, barbosa, and nash, no to mention shaq. at least amare took passes for dunks and open j’s he didnt create on his own. doesn’t make sense to me

Michael.S.Participantamares very underrated and he is the most versatile pf in the nba

RickyRubio9ParticipantOk I saw it, it’s insider stuff. Wow, a top 5 pick for the Suns would be pretty darn good to get if Amare has to go and since he wants to or seems like it it’ll be good for both. Nash could tutor his future self or so they say. Or Griffin…which is a can’t miss talent from what i’ve seen and heard. Either way Shaq would help out the kid and then they have a young future front line of Robin Lopez and Blake Griffin. Might as well continue with it and start the rebuilding mode.

BornParticipantESPN——> Will Wizards Trade Pick For A Veteran?
There is a lot of chatter here and elsewhere about the Wizards trading their top five pick to acquire an established all-star veteran like Amare Stoudemire and/or Chris Bosh. That is not happening. The Wizards would have to surrender the pick and at least one of their three all-stars in any package for a player of that caliber (expiring contracts are not going to cut it). And that still might not be enough. — The Washington Post0 - Posted on: Thu, 05/14/2009 - 11:37am #150236

JPParticipantI would jump on this. Butler and #2 for Stat and #14 – no brainer. To those who want to argue about overrated v. underrated, I can tell you having watched 99% of the games in Amare’s career, including dozens in person, its a matter of which night you watch.
He plays ZERO defense, has poor rebounding instincts, is lazy and or slow to react, and is too concerned about getting his.
That being said, I phrase it like that because people perceive him to be a first team all NBA as he was a couple years ago.
He may be the best finisher in the league. He has great touch. He has good vision (seeing the floor – not litterally, as he currentyly has a torn retina ;>). Despite his ego, he has shown a strong work ethic in improving his game since coming into the league. He also is outstanding in the community and has a good head despite the rough upbringing.
So take the good with the bad. Its a roller coaster.

ch15r36isParticipantPre-Surgery Amare was ready to re-define the position of PF. He was nearly unstoppable in the 04-05 playoffs.
Pre-Surgery Gilbert was ready to become a top-10 player in the game.
Clearly, I don’t think either has that same potential he once had, but they could make an interesting high risk/high reward pairing for the next couple years at least.
Rubio would be in a great situation down in PHX learning behind Nash, and Caron could keep them competitive in the short-term.
Very interesting rumor.0- Posted on: Thu, 05/14/2009 - 1:32pm #150254

WizardofOzParticipantI heard on a website that the Wizards would have to give up Antawn Jamison, Darius Songaila, and and 2009 first-round pick. I am a Wizards fan, and this deal can be good for both teams. The Suns could use Rubio for a replacement to Nash in the future and the Wizards can improve their soft post by adding Stoudemire to the mix. Stoudemire also frees up cap space for the Wizards in 2010 when his contract expires. Stoudemire needs to improve on his rebounding and defense, but I think Flip Saunders can help him with those aspects of the game.

JPParticipantJman,
The problem with your theory is, it has already proven to fail. What makes you think Flip can do what Porter couldnt? That was the whole point of bringing TP in – have someone who will toughen Amare up and get him to d and board.
We see how that worked.
I would be shocked if Washington did this. Then again, I dont know that they will ever make it anywhere with their current big three, they are locked in to them for a while to boot.

TocaneParticipantGood trade and all but the Wizards have to secure their pick before anything gets serious trade wise. Washington could easily fall out of the top 2 and then all of this would be moot.

rvirsalParticipantif i were kerr, i’d get caron instead of jamison. caron’s still quite young. adding jamison would only make their team older. a starting 5 of shaq, blake, butler, j-rich, and nash is going to be scary for next season. it’s a one-time big-time thing for phoenix. after that, they rebuild with blake, caron and j-rich, that’s not a bad “big three”. as for the wiz, they pray that amar’e and arenas be healthy for next season. if they do, they have a very good offensive duo. mcgee/haywood can start at the five, amar’e at the 4 and jamison could slide back at the 3, arenas at the 2 and flynn/evans at the 1.

PringlesParticipantSteve Kerr is going to be one of the worst GM’s in NBA history. Trading Amare for a draft pick is incredibly stupid (unless his injury doesn’t improve).

kamikazeParticipant“make a deal on the wizards trading their pick and another unconfirmed player to the suns for Amare Stoudamire”….that unconfirmed player has to be one of the three wizards all-star players if they wanna get Amare or someone like Bosh….it jus has to be…there is no choice….
assumin wizards get #1 pick…….trade wizards #1 pick and Caron Butler to Toronto for Chris Bosh…..Bosh is a solid, consistent player….solid 20 pt, 10 rebound player…..imagine Bosh and Jamison in the front….could work out……
as for Toronto, they draft Griffin….get Butler to play the SF…..they still got their top ten pick where they get Derozen, or Clark to back up Butler…..and still have enough money to get a player in the range of 10-12 mil a year….may i recommend Ben Gordan…..with all this, they don’t have to deal with a sign and trade for Marion, jus let him go….
0 - Posted on: Fri, 05/15/2009 - 9:26am #150377
kamikazeParticipantwizards wouldnt have too much cap space to work with…..get Trevor Ariza…..Lakers would most likely go after Marion…..cuz they could resign Odom for a lot less….gives them the space to sign Marion and get Jason Kidd as well and give him a veteran contract….

JoeWolf1I don’t think Amare and Jamison could be on the same team with Arenas, They all score too much, I think you’d have to trade Jamison and keep Butler, he is still a good player and could play the 3 better without needed as many shots as Jamison. That being said, I think I’d rather have Jamison at power forward than Amare. He can do more, better, passer, ball handler and outside shooter. Jamison (IMO) had a better year last year, and although he is older he doesn’t have the history of injuries as Amare, and the last thing I would think a team like Washington ,who has watched their best player sit out with injuries the last 2 years, would do was trade for another injury prone star.
