UNCbasketballbumParticipantI wouldn’t want Coach Cal anywhere near my program. He’s a crook and a cheater. I’m waiting for the day that his national championship is taken away because he played 5 ineligible players. I hate Calpiari.

So raspyParticipantWith the news that Noel is under investigation by the NCAA (whether justly or not, thats not the argument here), I’m interested in hearing others opinions on coach Calipari and his track record. I’m a believer of the "tigers cant change thier stripes" thinking, and was fairly shocked when he got the UK job after what happened at UMASS and Memphis. I find it strange that a program like that would hire someone who’s had banner’s taken down on two seperate occasions. But as with anything, their are many different ways to view this, the most prominent in my mind being that he’s obviously not the only coach to play a role in the catastrophe that is college ball recruiting. Whatever he does clearly works in bringing in top talent (I can’t not mention this; how is it he brings in the top recruiting class every year??? not once or twice but consistently? come on now) so I can see the allure of hiring him, KU did win a chip and all, but what happens if in two years from now the NCAA wipes thier season off the books? Would you hire coach Cal if you were head of a prestigious program such as Kentucky?

HaleParticipantI’m a big Memphis fan and he was the coach when I first followed them so I’m biased. But I’d absolutely hire him, he wins games, gets the best recruits and wherever he goes he brings in media.
I’ve never really gave a f*ck if the NCAA says a season doesn’t count. It still happened, they still celebrated a Title, the emotions were still real, and whether you pretend it happened or not usually doesn’t effect anyone on that team. I mean sure they might not feel proud the season gets erased, but they still got the feeling of being champions when it mattered, or in the case of Memphis, nearly bringing home a title.

ChriJollParticipantIt’s weird.
Cal is coaching UK.
@UNCbasketballalum doesn’t like Calipari.
Coincidence?…
Anyway I am also biased towards Calipari, so I’ll refrain from answering,

aarondsonixfanParticipantI would love to see how great of a coach he is without great players… Let’s say…. COACH THE BOBCATS! If he were to turn that team around, I’d say he’s a legitimate coach, but he recruits dirty imo. He gets the best talent, so how could his team not be good?

beerandhiphopParticipantuhm nixfan your a god damn fool, Calipari is a legend, took numerous scrub UMASS teams on tourney uns (before camby remember that AWFUL team raping syracuse?) Then again if I was a knicks fan I’d probaly hate everything and everyone that has success in said sport because your team if AWFUL

SeattleSuperChronicsParticipantHe’s a pro basketball coach coaching in college. The SAT scores at Memphis doesn’t matter to him. I feel that he would rather coach the best players out of highschool instead of coaching the best students more than any other coach in the NCAA. Its about basketball.
I’m glad terrence jones didnt come to Udub he’s a sell out.

raybeasParticipantHe cancelled the series with Indiana, which was scheduled to be played @ Rupp this year, to protect Kentucky’s 54 game home winning streak.
