RUDEBOY_ParticipantIt seems nobody is talking about this year’s deep class of centers..I guess its becuz the big fish Dwight Howard opted to resign with Orlando for a least another year, unless he’s traded this summer…..Daniel Orton havent gotten much playing time, playing behind the Consensus best center in the nba Dwight Howard…Some said that if Orton had remained at Kentucky he might’ve been a Top 5 pick if he had decided to return for his sophomore or jr. year..
This year’s center crop is an impressive group that will be available this summer.. Unrestricted free agents like Greg Oden,Kamen,Camby,Spencer Hawes,Asik,Erden & Boston rookie Greg Steimsma, who surprised alot of people..
Restricted players like Bynum(Lakers have a team option on him) The Lopez twins,JaVale McGee and Hibbert..For Teams like Boston,Portland,Milwaukee,Cleveland and Detroit there are some quality proven players and some promising young players…
Orlando have to decide what they wan to do with Orton? Keep him as insurance in case Howard is traded..Or will some team overpay him, becuz they see him as a young big man that can blossom like Jermaine O’Neal did after leaving Portland?

llperezKaman is probably the best free agent center. I’m not counting the restricted ones cause I’m fairly certain their teams will keep them all

dede21Another 40 million or so for Kwame? lol
0 - Posted on: Sun, 05/06/2012 - 7:19am #667694
dede21Probably but Asik and Oden have a lot of upside
0 - Posted on: Sun, 05/06/2012 - 7:19am #667695

IndianaBasketballParticipantIt’s deep in quantity, but not quality.
I don’t see anything in Orton that suggests he can take that step up like JO did. You saw JO’s talent with the Blazers. He just couldn’t get on the floor due to multiple great big men being ahead of him.
I’m sure Kaman will be interested in the Mavericks. He’s always wanted to play with Dirk.

Chilbert arenasParticipantAsik is the only one that intrigues me
0 - Posted on: Sun, 05/06/2012 - 7:27am #667701

For_Never_EverParticipantAll of them are back up centers.
0 - Posted on: Sun, 05/06/2012 - 7:29am #667703

llperezYeah, there’s a lot of bum central on that list rudeboy. Misleading thread title, I mean gadzuric?

FearTheStacheParticipantI think Boston will try to get Brook Lopez

phila9012Participantafter these guys Greg Oden,Kamen,Camby,Spencer Hawes,Asik everyone else sucks that is unrestricted and those guys are average at best. The rest are bums. The rest of the centers are stealing money. they have no skill other than being 6-10 to 7 feet and 260 lbs. If any of them were judged based on their skills, they wouldn’t be in the NBA. The center position is really week compared to how deep it used to be.

Chilbert arenasParticipantOden needs to go to Phoenix if he knows whats good for him, if they can’t fix him noone can. Also Orton hasn’t played because he’s garbage, not because of Dwight being there. He hasn’t been playing much since Dwight went out anyway and when he has he hasn’t produced.

For_Never_EverParticipantSean williams and Ryan Hollins is in the Celtics lineup and don’t bring much, but I would still have them over all these guys.
0 - Posted on: Sun, 05/06/2012 - 8:11am #667718

RUDEBOY_ParticipantConsidering the lack of Star Quality Centers in the nba..Someone is going to Overpay some of these guys, becuz they always do…Look at the fact that Travis Knight & Luc Longley were vastly overpaid by the Knicks a few years ago..Haywood got overpaid by Dallas..
Hibbert has a 3 million dollar option by the Pacers on the table, he might be looking for a bigger payday…McGee was the Nuggets 2nd or 3rd string center after getting traded from Washington….I’m not sure what Denver plans to do with him..Will they start him or look to trade him..Avery Johnson openly complained about Brook Lopez lack of rebounding and Avery is known to quickly get rid of players he’s unhappy with…So there might be alot of movement involving these guys…

jmarg25ParticipantTrue there are a lot of centers in this years FA class… but they all suck. Mehmet is at the top of the list and he is hurt and hasnt produced much the past two years.
0 - Posted on: Sun, 05/06/2012 - 8:18am #667720

jmarg25ParticipantLol I forgot to read the top part you wrote. There are some quality defensive centers available, I like Hawes and Kaman. And Greg Steimsma is great, he had the best defensive rating this year.

GlenTaylorSucksParticipantI’d love to see the Wolves take a shot on Oden or even Thabeet (for dirt cheap). They need an athletic backup C for Pek, because Darko isn’t manna from heaven, and I love Pek, but he’s a brick wall that’s about as athletic as one. They could really use an athletic, shot-blocking C as a backup. I can see them either adding someone like Henson in the draft, or going for one of the athletic bigs in FA. I personally would love to see them take a chance on Oden- he wouldn’t be asked to play any more than, say, 20 min a night of pure defense, and Rubio would be able to feed him down low. He’d also be a great complement to Love’s high post game.
0 - Posted on: Sun, 05/06/2012 - 9:29am #667743

HaleParticipantOden: If he goes to Phoenix I think he could turn things around and become a star.
Kaman, Camby, Hawes: All solid starters.
Asik: He definitely isn’t a star, or even a quality starter right now. I watch the Bulls quite a bit and he’s just not that good. He’s a good defender and plays his role well, but he can’t catch and his offense is raw at best. He’d fit great next to a scoring or stretch four, but in a role where he’s asked to be a scorer he will be a big disappointment.
Okur, Mohammed, Curry, Thabeet, Hollins, Przybilla, Brown, Gazuric, Fesenko, Gray
To me these guys are either spot starters, qulaity backups, or defenders/rebounders of the bench.

TheDagger40ParticipantI’m pretty sure last year’s free agent centers,Tyson Chandler, Nene, and Deandre Jordan (Am I missing any?), are way better than all these centers combined
0 - Posted on: Sun, 05/06/2012 - 9:36am #667748

Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantHaha I laughed when I saw the list.
0 - Posted on: Sun, 05/06/2012 - 9:51am #667752

DunksNJordans23ParticipantThe Bulls should take a look at Thabeet if Noah’s injury proves to be worse than it looks to be.
0 - Posted on: Sun, 05/06/2012 - 10:14am #667758

FearTheStacheParticipantI know that Oden would want to go to Phoenix because of the Med Staff, but don’t they already have a great C in Gortat
0 - Posted on: Sun, 05/06/2012 - 11:17am #667774

the I in winParticipantNot saying he is a starter, potential starter, or even the first big off the bench but semih erden is worth the salary he gets.
0 - Posted on: Sun, 05/06/2012 - 12:35pm #667796

DunksNJordans23ParticipantThe reason the Suns should grab Oden is not because they don’t like Gortat but simply so they could have a trade piece once they fix Oden.
0 - Posted on: Sun, 05/06/2012 - 1:03pm #667802

Counting StarsParticipantGortat played behind Howard and still managed to see the floor. Orton should have stayed in school. He can’t start over Glen Davis.
0 - Posted on: Sun, 05/06/2012 - 1:10pm #667804

sheltwon3ParticipantOrton is still a young player so in time he may become a solid C. I think people forget that early only Bynum played behind Kwame. Let that thought swim around in your brain for a minute.
0 - Posted on: Sun, 05/06/2012 - 1:12pm #667805

sheltwon3ParticipantAlso you guys forgot to mention the Lopez twins. I think there are enough free agent centers avaible to possiblly change the balance of power a little bit if guys go to teams where they really fit. Robin Lopez has underachieved but if he goes to a place where he can really grow, he could be a solid starter. A healthy Brook is and all Star but he will probably stay in NJ.

0 - Posted on: Mon, 05/07/2012 - 4:18am #667938

CynthiaParticipantMy thoughts:
Greg Oden – Still has a chance, as someone mentioned Phoenix would be good for his injuries.
Chris Kamen – Still very solid, should see a lot of interest.
Marcus Camby – Quite old, but still a good defender, will see some interest from contenders.
Spencer Hawes – Young, tall, can shoot, who wouldn’t want one of them off the bench?
Omer Asik – Should see some moderate interest from teams.
Semih Erden – Decent backup. Should land on a team somewhere.
Greg Steimsma – Same as above.
Andrew Bynum – Probably be resigned
Brook Lopez – If they’re still hellbent on getting Dwight it’s possible they don’t resign Brook if he gets offers.
Robin Lopez – Probably resign, still a decent backup defender at the center position.
Javale McGee – Could end up back in Denver after playing not too shabby for them.
Roy Hibbert – Probably resign.
Daniel Orton – DLeague / Europe.
Mehmet Okur – Old, injured, still might make a deep bench spot on a contender.
Nazr Mohammed – Deep bench spot on contender.
Eddy Curry – During offseason eats a child, goes to prison.
Hashseem Thabeet – DLeague / Europe
Ryan Hollins – Decent backup, should find a spot on a team.
Joel Przybilla – Probably resign for cheap, aint what he used to be, but not worthless.
Kwame Brown – Why is he still in the league?
Dan Gadzuric – He’s from Netherlands, that’s about the only thing interesting about his game.
Kyrylo Fesenko – DLeague / Europe
Aaron Gray – DLeague / Europe
Desagna Diop – Hopefully retires, but has player option, if he’s smart he’d resign.
Soloman Alabi – DLeague / EuropeQuantity > Quality is pretty much the deffinition of this list.

The Scare Crow RisesParticipantHe’s probally playing his way into a huge contract…He’s young and has a great offensive skillset for a C…he’s not the rebounder or defender we’d want BUT it’s to hard to see The Sixers get a better C on the Free Agent market or in The Draft…
Kaman should go to Dallas along with Deron Williams
Hawes will be resigned in Philadelphia unless someone offers him a Near Max deal…
Camby should find a role on a Contender(maybe The Clippers sign him to back up Jordan)
McGee and Oden are going to be the ones to watch, Mcgee seems like he wants to be paid like a superstar C, he’ll want at least 10 million per, Oden will command less money but will have to pick a Team carefully, Teams like The Suns have the reputation of having good training staffs BUT the one position they don’t need to add to is Center, Gortat and Lopez are just fine in Phoenix so adding Oden makes 0 sense when you have to worry about Nash and Hill…Oden could go to The Pacers or Cavs, he could also decide to go to a Team like Philadelphia or Dallas for The full MLE

M-EazyParticipantYou said deep class in caps and I came in here and the #1 big man was Okur…automatically knew the class was not deep
