bad question… the real one is :

If you were a gm would you be able to find another GM willing to trade for an injury prone, underperforming amare and his huge non guaranteed contract ? …. whatever he gives back….

It’s not should they trade amare, it’s can they trade amare? Who wants that contract with that production? I think they’d amnesty him if they hadn’t already used it on chauncey

I wouldn’t be able to find a trade partner to dump Amare on. He’s aging, and his contract is starting to look like and albatross, as Melo and Amar’e just don’t fit, and Melo has been the better player as of late. There’s still three years and over $60,000,000 dollars guaranteed on his contract.

    But wait, here’s the kicker.

His contract is uninsured, which means that in case of a season-ending injury or something like that, Amare still gets his money. That with his balky knees and the "Fire Extinguisher Incident" means almost nobody would want or be dumb enough to trade for him. The only way to get rid of him would to be to trade for another albatross contract, like Gilbert Arenas’. But Stoudemire produces more, so It’d make more sense to keep him.

On the lighter side, the New York Post trolled Amar’e pretty hard after his incident:

if you look back at gilbert arenas, his situation was similar and the trade happened. I think theres atleast 1 team out there thats willing to risk the trade

He still can provide some scoring so the Knicks should look for a team which needs scoring and has some bad contracts to give in exchange.

http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=7wmfvd2 – I’m quite sure that this one would make both teams better

http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=6oj4a43+ maybe some pick from the NYK – It has a lot of sense for NYK and some little sense for the Hawks. Stoudemire could fit in nicely to Horford, probably better than Smith because of his height.

http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=6v6h2sq + not sure that Martin&Carmelo would work on both sides of the court but that’s just an idea

And my last idea was a trade which would include Iguodala and Brand for Stoudemire and Shumpert. The Sixers would finally make room for Turner and add a big man which could provide some scoring which they need.  For the Knicks this trade would be huge. With Iguodala and Brand they would be really dangerous.

Step 1: Get Michael Jordan on the phone.

Step 2: Get Davey Boy Stern on the phone for a conference call.

Step 3: Propose an Amare for Corey Magette and Tyrus Thomas swap.  Then tell Davey Boy Stern that the Bobcats need to end up with the next 3 number one picks.

    link:  http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=7an2m24

Step 4: Convince Bobcats fans that Amare can still put up 15 and 7 (or 16 and 8 on good nights), but in no way will that jeopardize the Bobcats’ chances of losing 60 plus games next year.  Use Amar’e as a veteran leader to Bismack Biyombo and Anthony Davis.  Then use Amar’e on lottery ball night as the Bobcats’ represensative.  Have Amar’e act fake surprised as the Bobcats get the top pick again.  James McAdoo would add to a solid front line of Davis, Biyombo, and McAdoo.  That would be a solid team that just misses the playoffs by winning 39 games and then ends up with the first pick again.  Hopefully a legit shooting guard is on the board.  Might need to convince Shabazz Muhammed to stay in school for another year.  Things can be arranged.

Step 5:  The Knicks build their team around Carmelo, Tyson Chandler, Jeremy Lin, and Shumpert.  Magette gives them some toughness and scoring from the wing.  Tyrus Thomas is a live body who can do some stuff.  Josh Harrrelson and Landry Fields are solid as young role players.  The Knicks now have a franchise guy to build around in Melo, a defensive anchor in Tyson Chandler, a promising young backcourt in Lin and Shumpert, and some decent role players.  Optimism creeps back into New York City.

Step 6:  Don’t tell anyone about this secret deal.

    hubhub,

Cool, I was typing my Amare for magette/Tyrus Thomas trade at the same time you were.  That is a really sensible trade.  But I think the Knicks might have to throw in a pick or something.  Maybe a couple of 2nd rounders since they don’t really need Amare even though he could help, especially as a veteran leader if they happen to land Anthony Davis.

Amare could at least sell some tickets and give you some decent throw-back vintage Amare games a few times a month.  Amare, Biyombo, and Anthony Davis could actually be a good 3 big man rotation.  Each guy brings something different to the table.  Then throw in Byron Mullens.

The Knicks would be smaller but could go with a small ball line up of Jeremy Lin and Shumpert in the backcourt, with Carmelo Anthony at the 3 and Corey Maggette at the 4 and Tyson Chandler inside at center.  Then bring Tony Douglas, JR Smith, Landry Fields, Tyrus Thomas, and Josh Harrellson off the bench.  … the Knicks could also throw some money at Mo Speights who could be a good fit on that front line or someone else to play the banger/role player power forward.  This trade would clean up the Knicks roster and hand over the keys  to Carmelo.  They pick up two solid vets in the deal who could use a change of scenary.

I like this deal for the Knicks a lot.  The Bobcats get a glorified tutor and someone who can make things interesting.  This would work better if they could get some draft picks or some cash out of the deal.  But, the team doesn’t need Tyrus Thomas and Magette anyway so they might as well roll the dice.  He should be ok the next two years, and then in his last year Amare will be valuable as an expiring contract.

What has Amare done in his career that makes people think he would make a good "tutor" or "mentor"

Is he going to teach Bismack Biyombo how to run straight at the rim, wait, catch, and dunk?

Nobody will want to trade for him, his contract is enormous, and hes rapidly declining. If the Knicks get a PG, Amare will be relevent again.

    No, you don’t.

I said in another post, we still haven’t seen the Knicks at full force.

Let’s look at the Knicks in chronological order.

Stoudemire and Melo were healthy.  No point guard.  Mike D’Antoni was coach.

Stoudemire was healthy.  Melo was injured.  No point guard.  Mike D’Antoni was coach.

Stoudemire was healthy.  Melo was injured.  Lin came in.  Mike D’Antoni was coach.

Stoudemire was injured.  Melo was healthy.  Lin was in.  Mike D’Antoni was coach.

Stoudemire was injured.  Melo was healthy.  Lin was injured.  Mike D’Antoni was coach.

Stoudemire was injured.  Melo was healthy.  Lin was injured.  Mike Woodson was coach.

Stoudemire was healthy.  Melo was healthy.  Lin was injured.  Mike Woodson was coach.

We have yet to see Stoudemire, Carmelo, and Lin healthy at the same time while being coached by Mike Woodson.  I believe that combination will work because they’ll have the defense necessary with Woodson’s system.  They’ll have the point guard and Stoudemire combination on the pick-and-roll.  And they’ll have Carmelo’s isolation buckets.  They should not break this team up at all, they just put it together and we haven’t seen all of their pieces healthy and together yet.

Amare averaged 17 and 8 this year.  And he is not even 30 yet.  It would be worth the risk for the Bobcats to do that trade, especially if they draft AD and can play him some at the 3.

The Bobcats don’t really need Tyrus Thomas or Corey Maggette.  So if they trade him, Amare is the best they can do.  They could use him as a go to scorer or as a combo scoring big off the bench as a sixth man.  The ‘cats can’t do worse next year record wise, plus they add a guy with some buzz, a guy who can still score and board who can hopefully help them win some games or at least make the games interesting.

I would trade him. Amare and Melo aren’t working together. It’s really that simple. Now I wouldn’t give up too much for him but he has value. I think a team like the Rockets could use him(not a Daryl Morey type move but an example). They have pieces and I don’t think the salaries have to match since Houston I believe is under the cap.

Amare dropped 21 points in 24 minutes to go along with 3 assists, 2 rebounds, and 2 blocks against the Bobcats in final game of the year. The Knicks get a win, Amare was + 14, and Charlotte dropped its 23rd straight game to end up being the worst team ever. All the Bobcats do here is trade 2 bad contracts for one bigger bad contract, BUT they get a talent upgrade. If he does well, they can either play him more or trade him to receive younger players/draft picks. If he doesn’t play well, then they still won’t be worse than last year and will still be one of the best Bobcats players on the floor. Amare could be the go to guy as they rebuild around Kemba, Biyombo, and their draft pick. Then, when the young talent gels, Amare will be off the books.

Well we just saw the Warriors trade for Andrew Bogut so I think some team out there would trade for Stoudemire.

lets put some realistic scenarios on who might be willing to trade for Amare, these are based on next season’s salaries….

    NYK trades:

    Amare Stoudamire – 19,948,799

    Charlote trades:

    Correy Maggette – 10,924,138

    Tyrus Thomas – 8,000,000

    Desagna Diop – 7,372,200

    Total: 26,296,338

the only other trade i was thinking could be possible is between the magic and the knicks where orlando will be parting with Hedu and J-rich for Amare, but ultimately i wasnt so sure the magic would go for such a deal without knowing what their future will be with or without dwight. still though, those are the only two long shot deals i could see happening with Amare unless Joe Johnson suddenly tears his ACL twice in the next year.(knocks on wood)

The real problem is Melo, Amare, and Chandler don’t play well as a group. Jeremy Lin will never be the player he was for that stretch, with Dantoni as the coach and none of the other stars out there. Melo is going to continue to take shots and Amare is going to continue to get frustrated he isn’t getting the ball enough. Trade him.

i think it is too early because they have yet to have a whole season together. This lock out season does not really count.  Even Miami took some time to gel.  Knicks are not getting that opportunity.  I think Knicks talent and Linsanity cause people’s expectation to jump to high levels when you still have a team that is trying to figure each other out.  If Wade, Lebron and Bosh can do it so can the Knicks.

I personally think Amare can still give you 20 and 8 in the right system. We all can see he dosent fit well next to Anthony and Chandler so why not trade him? Physically he’s regressed a lil after the injuries so i would start him at the 5 since he can no longer guard the more athletic power forwards in the game. The Bobcats have nothing to lose. Its not like his contract will keep them from going out and signing that big name free agent. I say do it.

It’s kinda crazy how quick he fell off, last year he was playing at an MVP level in NY as the #1 guy before they got Carmelo. ‘Melo came, didn’t mesh, injuries happened and bam you get a very mediocre player.
