I’m sorry to take up a spot on the front page, but I want to get everybody’s opinion on the Realm of Comic Book movies…Thanks for the Off Topic Thread Idea "For Never Ever" and "Y2G"…

I tried to comprise a list of the best Comic Book movies ever, I would like some feed back in this completely Off Topic Thread

I’ll rate the Super Hero movies I’ve studied and watched in order

    1. The Watchmen – This choice always catches people by suprise, The film is very long, very complex and very much so not for everybody, but if there was a Comic Book Version of Citizen Kane this would be it, my advice to anyone is to read the source material because that is the Bible of the comic book universe, 1 read through and you’ll instantly understand what it would mean to be a "Super Hero", "Mask" or "Vigilante", and not just for yourself, but what the world’s view of those Ideals would be…

    2. Batman Begins – everybody is going to lose their minds when I say this but hear me out, Begins was the Classic Batman tale, it actually was the 1st and truest adaption of the Caped Crusader in live action(the Animated Series is the Purist version of Batman ever IMO) Batman/Bruce Wayne took on the Mob, The Police, The Scare Crow, Ras’ Al Ghul, The League of Shadows, The Citizens of Gotham and His own personal Fears, all this before Gordon pulls out the Joker card and blows everybody’s mind…

    3. The Dark Knight – This is not the best Super Hero story of all time, It’s the Greatest Super Villain story of all time, not only does the audience fall in love with The Joker and his Anarcist movement, but we get to see the tragic rise and fall of Harvey Dent, Gotham’s White Knight lived long enough to become the Villain

    4. X-Men: First Class – Of all the Marvel films to come out the last few years, XM:FC was by far the best, from The Introduction of Erik the Nazi Hunter, to the declaration of Magneto, this was the best film version of X Men to date…Now that’s not to say Marvel got it 100 % right, they cast Cyclop’s younger brother Havoc before the Original leader of the X Men himself, they left out Jean Grey and included some useless female mutant named "Angel" who we’re not supposed to confuse with The Original "Angel/Arch Angel" from the Comics and X-Men 3 film, I just thought Havoc should have been Cyclops, Jean should have been cast in place of ‘Angel" and Banshee could have instead been the Real "Angel"…Other than the mis-casted Mutants, this was the best Marvel/X-Men yet, and one that gives hope to true Marvel/X Men fans

    5. The Hulk(Directed By Ang Lee) This movie was probally ahead of its time, Ang Lee made a story driven Comic Book movie before the success of The Dark Knight made them acceptible and financially successful, everything from the look and feel of the Hulk to the Score was brilliant, I’m not sure why most Marvel/Comic Book fans didn’t like the movie back then, but it’s actually held up better than the Ed Norton film IMO, I know Hulk didn’t get to fight any major Marvel heroes(which would have made that movie perfect) but The OG Hulk movie was very well done…

     6. Blade 2- This was the best Blade movie, and one that helped Marvel get their Film Company jump started, I would’ve introduced The Darkstalkers in This Film but what do I Know right??? Instead they forced Them on us in Blade 3, and it sucked because it was a little too late…The Action in the Blade 2 is what stands out most, still some of the best from Marvel to this day, and Daryl Dixon was in the movie WTF…

    7. Spider-Man 2 – I will admit the First Spider Man was a bit colorful and campy in some aspects, but that’s what made the Series so good IMO, they realized what they were as films, and Spider Man 2 took that formula and adding some real depth, Doc Oct was a great villain suprisingly, the best of the Spider Man films, sad to say what with both Goblins, Sandman and Venom making an appearence, where the films failed was when they over did the Love Story between Parker and Mary Jane, the Amazing Spider Man seems to want to repeat those mistakes

    8. 80’s Punisher – I know many of you haven’t seen this film, and it was limited by 80’s technology and a small budget even for the times, but this was the best Punisher yet, this was a violent yet not over the top violent take on the Frank Castle story, I’m pretty sure had they stuck more closely to this version the newer films wouldn’t have sucked so bad, It’s a bit of a Cult Classic at this point, but it still one of the best Marvel Movies ever

    9. Super Man I – Yes this movie is as old as dirt, yes Reeves was a hack actor and yes the script and film were campy as hell, none of that could sink this film though as far as Super Hero movies are concerned, it gives you exactly what you wnat and need out of super man flick, and after all the years it’s still sadly the best Super man film ever made, that is until Zac Snyder comes out with "Man Of Steel" in 2013

    10. Batman 1989- Time and Tim Burton have not done this movie any favors…Why is it still on my list, because I think Jack’s Joker was insane enough to warrant a flash back, and Danny Elfman’s Batman Theme was one of the best scores ever composed LOL…What was wrong with this Batman you ask… well a midget sized hero, black Harvey Dent and an all Prince soundtrack aren’t what I think of when I think of The Dark Knight

Only movies out of that list I’ve seen is Blade & 300. Blade is one of the most unique and awesome vampire series to date. I really like war movies though, 300 is one of my favorites, I didn’t even know it was from a comic book.

Overall I don’t watch many movies, but again I do like some war ones, some that come to mind I really like is The Patriot & Troy, oh and The Gladiator is possibly my fav movie. Russell Crowe & Joaquin Phoenix in the same movie…mmmmmmm.

Well done but the original Spiderman should be way higher. It was amazing for its time and really helped bring this entire genre back to life.

I haven’t seen the majority of these either, but I agree with the analysis of the Dark Knight. I didn’t love Batman’s character, but the Joker was captivating enough to make it a good movie. It isn’t what I would call great, but it was very good. Spider Man 2 definitely set the bar for that franchise, as Spider Man 1 was kind of sappy, and Spider Man 3 was just terrible.

My personal favorite movie on your list is Sin City. I loved the dark, gritty feel, and brutality of the movie.

The X Men movies just kind of annoy me though. I never really got into them, and it feels like they make a new one every year.

I actually agree with you on Batman Begins being in front of DK. My friends always said I was crazy for thinking that but the story and plotline for DK seemed a little convenient and farfetched and was way too rushed, especially Two Faces part, could have easily made two movies out of it. Dont get me wrong I still love the movie and would put it second right behind Batman Begins. Obviously it doesnt look as good and didnt have the epic villains of DK but like you said what made it so great was all the differnet parts he was fighting against especially himself.

Plus Im usually partial to great background stories, Id have XMen First Class third and, Watchmen, Captain America and Iron Man up there as well.

Underrated: Hellboy and Hellboy 2- I love these movies’ sarcastic sense of humor, and they didn’t necessarily get the attention they deserved because it’s really weird. The Crow- a really messed up, but sickly fun and dark revenge flick, really haunting because Brandon Lee died on one of the last days of shooting this movie.

Overrated: 300. Sorry, I know I’m gonna get negged for this, but Zack Snyder is probably the single most overrated director working today. I’ll give him that he did the best he could with Watchmen, but 300, while "cool" visually for a few minutes, was beyond ridiculous, and I got really tired of the freaking slo mo-fast mo kills when they happened a thousand times.

As far as the thread though…

I’m not a big comic book fan or fan of the different series.  Even so, Heath Ledger’s performance in the Dark Knight makes that film on of my personal favorites.  It was near perfection as far as acting.  Its up there amongst Al Pacino in Scarface (my favorite movie of all-time).

I won’t give you my full list, I’ll just say that there’s no way Watchmen is the best superhero film. The graphic novel is amazing, I’ve got about three copies, but the film paled in comparison, the new ending was silly – Dr Manhattan is apparently not enough of a nuclear deterrent to stop other countries wanting to attack the US, but he’s scary enough to unite the whole world? Get outta here.

The Avengers should definitely be on this list, I’d put it at least in the top 5, the timing of the humour was brilliant, the dialogue wasn’t TOO corny, and all of the Avengers player their roles perfectly.

Good call on Spiderman 2, I’d definitely say it was the best of the movies, I still get goosebumps when the Doc steals Mary Jane in front of Parker and he bursts out of the rubble with his powers rediscovered.

I’d also definitely put Ironman in my top 5.

I suppose in the end my top five would be (in no particular order); The Avengers, Spiderman 2, Ironman, X-Men, Batman Begins.

    Here are my top 3.

    1. The Dark Knigh: nuff said

    2. Kickass: Coming in to this movie I was expecting a funny comedy. I was way wrong! Yea it is funny, but it is not really a comedy. It is really intense and brutal, the fights scenes are awesome, and overall it is just a Kickass movie!

    3. Spider-man 2: Doctor Octopus was portrayed fantastically. The fight scenes were awesome and I put the train fight as the best movie fight of all time.

Other good movies that I didnt want to take the time to rank off the top of my head:

    • Spiderman 1
    • Iron Man
    • Batman Begins
    • Thor
    • Captain America
    • The Hulk
    • Iron Man 2

Movies that I cant wait to see this summer:

    1. The Amazing Spider-Man: As you can probably tell by my profile pic, I am a huge spidey fan. Director Marc Webb is making a darker, grittier, and more grounded take on spiderman. Cant wait to see the Lizard as well. Hopefully I can add this to my top 3 movies.

    2. The Dark Knight Rises: Can not wait. Bane looks viscious and seems like Batman will get his ass kicked.

    3. Avengers: Looks like it will be action 24/7.

    Iron Man

Alan Moore is a bloody genius, and "The Watchmen" was legendary. I’ve read it a few times now (even read it in one of my college literature classes) and it seems to get deeper every time. The movie was great too, but you can’t get the kind of depth that the book had in just three hours.

"300" and "Sin City" were solid (if not overrated), but Frank Miller is a flaming bigot and I try not to support him in any way.

Good list, anyway. I also feel that "Batman Begins" was better than "The Dark Knight". The first two Spiderman movies were good, but neither one should be considered timeless by any stretch. I’d like to see "The Avengers" (I’m a Joss Whedon fan), but out of all the superheroes movies that proceeded it, I’ve only seen the first Iron Man.

Anyone who is claiming Batman Begins is better than TDK, is just saying that because they think "The Dark Knight was totally overhyped". Which really wasn’t true. It was the biggest movie of the decade, and it was a far superior film to Batman Begins.

I am not one of those people that thinks The Dark Knight is overhyped/over rated…in fact it doesn’t get the respect it deserves all around, The Two Face story line was almost Hamlet like, his downfall was just about the best bit of writing for a secondary villain…The Harvey/Two Face character stole the show for me…

In fact, most people that watch the movie don’t even notice The Film’s true purpose was not to expose the Joker and all his badass glory, but to show Bruce/Batman the effect of becoming The Dark Knight

@ No Money, I totally understand why you would feel negatively towards Frank Miller and some of his work, I know he’s not in the same league as the genius/douche bag Alan Moore, but Miller’s first 2 Batman novel’s are classics, Sin City and 300 the Novels are very good as well, people either loved those Films or they hated them, I looked past some of sexism and bad acting in Sin City and thought Butler’s role as Leonidus was the strongest male performance in a Genre film next to Ledger’s Joker, the action was in 300 was awesome too, it has some of the best visual effects to date and influenced the look and feel of Captain America

@ huskies100, that story is random, do you still have the picture? Anyway, I respect your opinion, I just thought the Ang Lee was the better film, I wanted to love The Incredible Hulk too, Norton is one of my boys…

@Bastard and Mj23, I completely mind wiped Catwoman from my memory, YES that movie was TRASH, I think people are still turned off to the Catwoman charactor because of that P.O.S

@ Y2G and nbanflguy, I said the movie isn’t for everyone LOL…That has been the one pick that’s blown everyone away in it’s placement on my list…I suggest you read the Novel 1st, it will give you a sense of what’s happening in the film, and if you are an aspiring writer it’s a must read/will love and try to copy type of Novel…and thanks for reminding my about Kick Ass, I was also doubtful of the film’s tone at first, I still have issues with movie but it’s got 2 of the most awesome scenes in The Genre, I love the movie in that movie too…

@ It’s Dwight, I forgot To Road to Perdition was a Graphic Novella at first, good catch, Hanks and Jude Law were very good in that, It was also one of Daniel Craig’s first roles

@ whoever reminded me about the Crow, The original Crow is a Cult classic by all means, I love this movie because of the tone, the darkness, the grittyness, the grunge music in the backround, the rain pouring, everything about that movies screams The 90’s and I love that about it, Brandon Lee was taken too soon and was impossible to replace, The seies suffered big time after the 1st film’s epic success…

I also forgot about Spawn, I’m torn on how I feel about the movie, in one hand it was not the Bad Ass version of Spawn fans were expecting, fans wanted a Movie closer to the HBO animated series, however since this may be the last Film version we’ll get to see, I’ll hold it in higher regard, I would love a good Spawn reboot…

I too am a huge Comic Book collector…I have a ton of Novels and a collection of Trade Paper Backs

I love both Marvel and DC, both have great charactor and storylines  but I can say some of the Independent Publishers have some of the best work out there

And I would love to talk about all these picks with you…

@ Leroy, that’s a very good call, The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles did appear in Comic Books before they made the films…TMNT are one of my all time favorites creations on Earth…The fans bitching about Micheal Bay producing Ninja Turtles should just wait and see what happens and be grateful their making a Live Action Turtle movie…If it’s got an once of the action from the Transformers it’ll be the best Turtles movies ever…
