before the season started there were threads asking if he could still avg 25ppg. People were counting kobe out, assuming his time amongst the discussion of the best was done. Well just check the the playoffs. ANd denver is throwing everything at him. double teams, afflalo who is a very good defender. ANd kobe is simply averaging 34.5ppg on 49.5fg% and leading the lakers by example on both ends. Here’s a nice chase down block on a denver fastbreak:

Yea, Kobe has looked amazing and it looks like those games he missed gave his legs some much needed rest.

I was one of those people who didn’t think he could do this. I didn’t think his knee would let him. Last season he could barely even practice and struggled getting past defenders off of the dribble.

The reason Kobe should not have averaged 25 points per game is the reason why he played all of two games in the final three weeks of the season. Bryant has been in the NBA for sixteen seasons, and most of those years with long playoff runs. It made, and still makes, no sense to play him 39 minutes per game. Sure, he can get the points but what does it mean? He can’t win a title in in the regular season. Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, and Manu can still bring it too, and that is not lost on anyone with a clue despite the fact that Pops could care less about their stat lines against the lottery lifers of the league. Now, is it possible the shin injury was really nothing and that the Lakers simply just resting his legs for the playoffs? Maybe. He certainly has seemed to have fresher legs the past two games, but it is two games against a bad defensive team in the Nuggets. It wasn’t the smarter route. The smart route is the one that the Spurs took. Play it safe. Get your guys healthy and ready for the playoffs, and let that be the real season. Forget ESPN and all their stupid rankings, Kobe Bryant has titles. That is all that should matter.

At the begining of the series, I picked the Nuggets, but I guess I’ll hedge my bet, and if Kobe continues to dominate the way he has, I have no doubt that they can get through the West, however whoever gets through the West will be absolutly exhausted, while with D-Rose out, it looks like Miami might have a much, much easier time getting through the East.
