Scott42444ParticipantMy favorite team, the Chicago Bulls, are destined to be picking in the bottom 2 of the 1st round this year (although I think that it might be that the Spurs/Warriors are last now). They had 2 All-Stars this year and both are destined to be out for most likely the first 1/3 or 1/2 of the 2012-2013 season (Deng is waiting until after the London Olympic Games for his wrist). They have NO financial flexibility for free agent pick ups. So, the talk in Chicago is how to add to the team for next year.
This appears to be a really deep draft, so there can be All-Star level talent bleeding into even the 2nd round, with few international players who can be stashed away overseas worthy of 1st round selections.
Will there be teams who are selling 1st rounders (similar to how the Bulls got Luol Deng in the first place as the Suns were selling picks because of luxury tax concerns)?
What would it take to get the 13 – 18 pick in this draft? Would a late 2013 pick and C.J. Watson be enough to someone looking for a PG (Portland?)? Would Taj Gibson/Omer Asik and Watson with a 2014 1st rounder be enough?. What do you guys think? Is there just too much talent available where a young, talented PF will not be enough to snag a mid-first rounder?
Has the league changed substantially to the point where teams are not selling 1st round picks anymore? I think that the Bulls and Celtics are teams who could use 2 or 3 good solid talents to be injected into their lineup, opposed to the past few drafts where players were taken who fit the current system and team that is in place, especially in the Bulls case

aamir543ParticipantWatson and a late first rounder would not be appealing to anyone picking inside the top 15. Gibson, Asik, and Watson however would defeinatly open eyes picking in the late lotto, however I wouldn’t trade them if I were you, Gibson is the perfect fit for Thibs’ system, and Asik is going to be a restricted FA, but someone is gonna give him 25mil-35mil this summer either to screw the Bulls or to pry him away, but they’re both great deenders, and I honestly think that the Bulls will need to amnesty Boozer at some point. I am a fan of Booz, I believe that he a solid offensive guy, capable of 17 and 8, and he still gets it done at 15 and 8, but his lack of D limits his minutes to an extent, the Bulls will need him to turn the clock back and play like Utah Carlos Boozer if they want eve a chance at the tittle this year, but back to the point, even if he continues at a solid 15 and 8 as a 3rd option, they’ll have to amnesty him if they want to keep Gibson and Asik, otherwise the luxary tax will be too much.

bloodshyParticipantIf he were in Utah, I think he’d still be at least a 19/9 guy. The Utah system makes skilled bigs better than they would be elsewhere because their entire game is planned around a big scoring in the paint. The pick in roll and mid-post clear are THE focus. Booz was never as good as people thought he was when he was with Utah. Had he stayed in Cle or gone straight to Chi, I doubt he would have ever been an all star. There are very few systems outside of Utah where Booz could have been a 20/11 player.
Chicago should have recognized that before giving him the big deal.
And Utah should recognize it now. Al Jefferson is a very good player, but not nearly as good as his numbers make him seem in Utah. His trade value is probably higher than Utah’s need for his services. Now is the time for the Jazz to capitalize if they’re ever going to.

McWinningParticipantI think they should keep their roster intact. With a healthy D-Rose their the best team in the league. Although shooting guard is a concern so moving up for Waiters, or Ross wouldnt be a terrible move, as long as they dont give up too much.
Otherwise i think Doron Lamb, or William Buford would be a good fit for them. Or maybe John Jenkins.

Scott42444Participant…and many of the players signed last year were signed to 3 year contracts (the reason was because of the Miami Big 3 all having out clauses after 3 years). Once the Rose extension kicks in, which will be bigger than other players in his situation due to the new Rose rule, the Bulls will not be able to keep their roster in tact anyway.
I believe the Bulls are still an All-Star, who can create his own shot, away from being REAL threats to win multiple titles. They do not have the cap space to add through free agency, and trading for someone is illogical if you are only willing to give the 6th, 7th, or 8th member of the rotation. So I believe the only way to add that is through the draft. That gives them a player under their contractual control for up to 4 years at a relatively inexpensive price.
This year being a deep draft, with fewer international players that give teams an option to stash a player away for a couple of years without cost, I think that they have to swing for the fences on a mid to late round pick that can hopefully be that guy.

ChewyParticipantThey can cut Boozer and his contract anytime they want. But they won’t do it unless an oppertunity to pick up a big time player comes around which I’m not sure is very likely.
The Bulls don’t need to change anything. They have the depth to have a garunteed playoff spot next year. They should be more focused on going into the playoffs healthy rather than running D Rose and Loul into the ground trying to get the best record in the league. I think Deng led the NBA in Mins per Game this year.

Scott42444Participant…2016 most likely. That, of course, is assuming that the Cats will be in the Top 8 for the next 4 years, which I do. Of course, if the get Anthony Davis, people (I believe David Aldridge?) think he could be an MVP in 5 years so who knows? Maybe they’ll be in the playoffs soon? I highly doubt it, but you never know. You pick a stud or 2 in the NBA draft and you become contenders.
