Zeke313ParticipantI continue to hear talk about the Pistons drafting him but I’m not sold on Henson at all. I was hoping maybe you guys would maybe give me reason to hope. (lol) Will he start? Will he be effective? Will he be better than Ekpe?

GrandmamaParticipantYeah he’ll be better. He had a major improvement in his game from his soph to junior year. He’s tall, has great length, a solid post game, has the ability to knock down mid range jumpers, and is a monster on defense. He’ll be better than Udoh.

NbanflguyParticipantKind of early for that, dont you think? Udoh is the 2nd best player in the NBA

frogmanParticipantNice argument. Kobe, Nowitzki and Paul Pierce also went in that range. So i guess I can make the argument he will be like a 15 time all-star… Idiot

dede21I am not talking about John Henson by himself basically everytime I rate a player low people say I am wrong or neg me but history says most of these guys will not succeed. And I knew all those guys would be good except Dirk and TMAC had no opinion
0 - Posted on: Sun, 04/29/2012 - 4:05pm #665488
aamir543ParticipantDede, look, Lebron was the number one pick……………….and Kawamay Brown was the number 1 pick
Durant went 2nd………………….and Darko went 2nd
Plus you are completely forgeting that Kobe, Peja, Nash, they all went 13, 14, 15 and later, and I believe at that time 13th was the last pick in the lotto. Danny Granger, Caron Butler, Dirk, Pierce, T-Mac, they all went in that range. Your arguments are so flawed I can’t even understadn what the hell you’re talking about. Do your reasearch before you post.

dede21especially with the lockout this year and some more NBA caliber players than ever not playing in the league there are less spots for these rookies to fill that ever although it does seem to be a fairly deep class. I am also referencing some of the crazy comparisons people are throwing out there comparing guys who may never even score 1000 points in the NBA to former all stars all the time on here.

BasterdInABasketParticipantwhy you chose Udoh. I dont see many similarities to their game, Udoh is a lot bigger and stronger than Henson but doesnt have as good of a jumper as Henson, even though hes still pretty inconsistent right now.
Im not too high on Henson personally, I think hes a smarter, more mature Tyrus Thomas. Dont see him as starter material on a good team. Good potential backup big in my eyes.

dede21Udoh is not near as tall as Henson, Henson is a long lazy player like Keon Clark

aamir543ParticipantLet’s look at the 10-15 guys from 2000-2011. All the guys in 2000 in that range were scrubs, the only active guy is Dooling, the 2001 class produced an All-Star in Joe Johnson, a really good player in Richard Jefferson, and two solid role guys in Vlad Rad and Troy Murphy. The next year had another All-Star in Butler, a solid guy in Jared Jeffries, and Melvin Ely. 2003 had Pietrus, Ridnour, and Collison(Plus-Minus superstar)
I’m too lazy to do the rest, but just to name a few in that range, Kris Humphries, Al Jefferson, Iggy went 9th, Bynum, JJ Redick, Sefelosha, Ronnie Brewer, Spencer Hawes, Al Thorton, Thadeous Young, Nick Young(16th), Rodney Stuckey, Brook Lopez, Anthony Randolph, Brandon Rush, Jason Thompson, ROy Hibbert(17th), Javale McGee(18th) Danny Granger(17th), Brandon Jennings, Gerald Henderson, Paul George, Gordan Hayward(9th), Kawahi Leanord, Klay Thompson, Iman Shumpert(17th).
As you can see, there are plenty of decent players in the mid first round, late lotto range, and I don’t expect a superstar or even an All-Star in that range, I expect a Thaddeus Young type guys, 13 and 5 in 26 minutes off hte bench, great D, energy hustle guy that can make some moves in the post. That is a guy you should expect and want to draft in the late first round.

ChrisCrossParticipantuhm he’ll be better, but that’s not saying much

SwatLakeCityParticipantI don’t think the Pistons should draft John Henson, but he will definitely be better than Udoh. Like aamir543 said he will have a career similar to Thad Young. Right now I have the Pistons selecting Jared Sullinger to fill out their frontline. I think a combo of Monroe and Sullinger would be great down low and be tough to stop. Monroe and Henson doesn’t sound to good to me. Henson is more of a defensive guy, but not enough offense to go in the lottery. The Pistons can do better with the 9th pick (if that is where they draft). Sullinger may not have great defense, but I think if the Pistons can retain Ben Wallace as an assistant coach or even a defensive coach, he can learn to play defense better.
I have Henson going to the Celtics at 21. I think the Celtics would draft him in order to eventually replace KG. They would get quite a steal in this situation!

TruettParticipantI think a close comp might be sanders w/out the temper… Which may not be a great thing for a thin defensive role player w/out any offensive to speak of… Personally I think the pistons need to take risks in the lottery on high reward players and I do not see Henson as being that guy…their cap situation is screwed for the next 2 years and even if they draft a bust… They will prob be close to the 8 seed next year.. If they draft a low ceiling player, they may be stuck in the range where the bucks are where they are never really competitors and get the worst seeding year after year in the playoffs..this could be there last shot at the lottery for awhile

Zeke313ParticipantI agree which is why I want us to draft Perry Jones

JoeWolf1I will say this, Epke Udoh had a more polished offensive game coming out of college. He was a bigger part in Baylor’s offense and was a great passer in the high post. He had to be respected at the 15 foot range and was great at finding guys cutting to the hoop or a low post player open down low.
Henson’s got a nice 8-10 foot jumper now, but his overall offense is not as far along as Udoh, when he left Baylor. Henson is probably a little taller and longer, and I feel he’ll be an equal presense blocking shots and rebounding, but I don’t see him being a big factor offensively.
Udoh is a 2 apg player per 36 minutes and a 70+ % FT shooter, even though he isn’t used as an offensive option at the next level, he still is much further along and although he’s NEVER put up prolific numbers on offense.
It might be a lazy comparison because they went to the same school, but I see a lot of Ed Davis in Henson at the next level.
