Wavy BagelsParticipantWhich team would you guys prefer grab that 8th seed to face the Spurs in the first round? Utah or Phoenix?
My choice would be Phoenix. For me, it’s a no-brainer. The Utah Jazz may be a young, postseason-inexperienced team (with the exception of a few players on the roster), but their size is what scares me against San An. Big Al’s post game is one of the best in the league and can give Tim Duncan a hard time to defend in the paint, Derrick Favors has started playing great as of late and is becoming an excellent defensive stopper and Paul Milsap’s occasion play the 3 would give Kawhi Leonard due to size differential.
But this is just my opinion on the matter. Anyone feel the same or do they believe the Spurs have a better chance at Utah?

CameronParticipantI think the Suns would be the easier out, with the Spurs having a great chance at sweeping them. Utah might be a little tougher, but I don’t see that series going more than 5 anyways. I guess ultimately I would agree and prefer them to face the Suns, just because I think that will be a less physical series which will reduce the chances of a first round injury.

Al Jefferson will give Tim Duncan everything he can handle in this series.

fliptonnParticipantEveryone is knocking the spurs saying they cant guard bigs because of the one game against the Lakers. They have proved they can guard bigs all season with winning records against teams like the Clippers, the Grizzlies, the Jazz and absolutely destroying the Lakers in the last two. Tiago Splitter and Tim Duncan can definitely guard big guys and they’ll have no problem outscoring the Jazz. It doesn’t matter who they face in the first round, the only team that poses a major threat in the west (in my opinion) is the Thunder. But if the Spurs can stay healthy I have a strong feeling Pop can simply out coach Scott Brooks. You can’t count the Grizzlies or the Lakers out obviously but the Spurs have made adjustments this year that makes it so those teams should be more worried about stopping their offense rather than how the Spurs should defend. I agree with Cameron, the only reason I would say the Suns is because there is less of a chance of injury.

CameronParticipantAlthough somewhat unrelated, I would like to add that I hope Pop keeps with his bench in the playoffs. Most of the time we expect the rotations to be trimmed down to 7 or 8 come playoff time, but the Spurs have thrived all season off timely contributions from pretty much all their players. I’d like to see that continue as it will allow the Big 3 to stay fresh for a deep playoff run.

fliptonnParticipanttheyre going to have a deep bench but bottom of the rotation guys like james anderson, patty mills, and maybe even dejuan blair wont get much pt in the playoffs. they’ll still be about 10 deep though. that was the point of acquisitions like diaw and stephen jackson.

Wavy BagelsParticipantNot with the Suns. I just don’t see it happening considering:
1. He claims he has 3 more years left in him
2. He does not want to leave Phoenix.
I don’t see the Suns making huge aquisitions for the next couple of years to build around Nash, Dudley and Gortat. But only time will tell.
