minnesota has developped both record and quality of play and has really changed  this year. khan is extended for next year, adelman has brung an exciting, effective way of playing bball. What do they still need to do to grab that PO spot ?

*avoid the logjam (too many forwards or pg, playing time issues) : let randolph go, trade beasley (…) trade barea.

*get rid of bad contracts (to clean cap space, be attractive  for FA and extend pekovic next year) : let randolph go, decline webster and miller’s last contract years. It frees nearly 15M from disappointing or old players (and absorb love’s new contract).

*put the players at their real spot : with beasley webster and randolph out, williams is the starting sf and johnson the back up sf (his real spot) where he could develop into a corey brewer kind of guy from the bench.

*Beasley has to go…even if he’s not a bad guy. Williams deserves to have some PT and a starting sf job : to develop his game, be the defensive stoppeur he can be, become the athletic agressive wing the wolves need (pek’ / love… average athleticism). So you have to trade beasley’s last year (qualifying offer worth 8.1M) to get a starting SG or a back up PF.

I would personaly package him with baréa (useless, never managed to endorse that bobby jackson role, matchup issues, still some value) to a team needing a veteran back up scoring pg and a talented sf bet (last contract year=low risk).

    Beasley/Barea = 8.1M + 4.5M = 12.6M – Possible Trade scenario (no order of priority) ?

1/ Varejao/gibson (13.2M : gibson on his last year giving depth, varejao as a solid 4/5 back up ex barcelone as rubio) : perfect fit for minny in my mind : would cleveland accept ?… I doubt.

2/ Ben gordon (12.4M and a 13.2M PO next year) : detroit would jump on that one… minny would lose some flexibility but if ben could remember his bulls days (cluth, scorer, shooter, leader) it would be interesting… maybe with a draft pick ?

3/ Kevin martin (12.9M, last contract year) perfect fit for minny… the scoring sg (knows adelman offense) they need. Would houston accept ? maybe to let lee get some playing time and get a backup if dragic goes away… but from a direct rival.

4/ Emeka Okafor (13.5M 1 year left after)… would bring some D/Reb from the bench 4/5. Interesting but not perfect, would NO accept ? maybe to get some flexibility and scoring punch.

5/ Iguodala (14.7M and 1 last PO worth 15.9M) : great fit for minny… would philly accept ? few chances… if lou williams goes away philly could replace him with baréa and beasley could be abetter fit than iguy with turner (and give thad’ young a starting job)… maybe minny would need to give away a future pick

6/ baréa and/or beasley for morrow (4M last contract year) Would the nets accept it ? maybe morrow is useless with both brooks and green and beasley/barea could replace farmar/wallace (both on PO …?)… maybe minny would have to get petro….

*Draft with utah’s pick (if Utah stays at the 8th western conference spot) : that’s to say the 15th 16th or 17th pick !

who would you need : a back up 4/5 (henson, leonard, moultrie as sleepers, zeller, ezelie, melo) or a starting 2 (rivers as a sleeper, ross, waiters, wroten)… it depends on if you trade beasley/barea for a PF or a SG.

*I would personaly try to trade for an early 2nd round pick to get a complementary piece : john jenkins / buford / middleton to push ellington, sims to bring some size, scott machado / ty taylor to push lee for PT (rubio’s injury …?)… it depends on your need if you trade beasley/barea for a PF or a SG.

-Pekovic (productive big man extended after next year thanks to cap space)

-Love (the leader, always in progress, already extended)

-Williams (athletic, O &D potential, more PT and freedom, rookie contract)

    -Martin/Morrow/Gordon/Iguodala  OR Rookie 1 (ross, waiters, wroten…)

-Rubio (depends on his come back from injury… rookie contract)

-Milicic (D/BS/length, flexibility only 1 year worth 5.2M before a 5.7M Team Option)

-Rookie 1 (henson, zeller, leonard, moultrie…) OR Varejao/Okafor

-Johnson (real spot, defensive atletic potential, rookie contract)

-Ellington (underrated, scorer/shooter, some leadership skills, winning mentality)

-Ridnour (the perfect 6th man, starter or back up, veteran, effective… bargain)

-Lee (need some depth after rubio’s injury, some upside)

    -2nd round draft pick : rookie 2 (sims, machado/taylor, boford/middleton/jenkins)

-Bring back tolliver for the 3pts

-another player through FA or the beasley/baréa trade

Minny would be left with a clean 55.5 M cap (max).

Only my thoughts about one of the most interesting/intriging franchise currently… what are yours about the possible scenario ? What trade would you pull the trigger on ? What player would you draft so ?

Sorry for the length, I tried to be short and clear and realistic (I"m usually more concise).

I like.  If the Wolves don’t get what they need at the 2 from the draft, I’d like to see them take a look at Gerald Green.  He’d fit excellently.

Their biggest need is a shooting guard tht can knock down open three pointers, Wesley Johnson couldnt do it, and Martell Webster couldnt do it.

So with the Utah pick if Rivers doesnt slip take Waiters, or Ross.

Their frontcourt is solid, Pekovic, and Milicic at the center spot, and they have a log jam of power forwards, i wouldnt do any drastic trades they were doing well before Rubio got hurt, and their extremly young.

With the 58th pick they should hope they can get Kim English, if not Jae Crowder would be a good pick.

Personally i think Beasley should stay as a 6th man but they do have too many 3s, and 4s, so if they get a good offer they should take it.

NJ would prob hop on a barea for morrow deal, but I think that is because Morrow is not very good. He’s a streaky outside threat who can’t play D. I understand the strategy and Its not bad, but I personally think that morrow is not worth what you would give up

Aside from that you really cant trade a restricted free age(beasley and randolph are both RFAs). The only thing you can trade is their bird rights. The only problem is that your coach never played any of them this year and you drafted williams, so everyone knows that they are not part of your long term plans. This is what will happen if you try to trade them:

Khan: So Gm X how would you like me to trade you either of these fine players for a player that you hold in the most minute amount of positive value for your team?

GM X: They are free agents, why don’t I just sign them myself, give you nothing, and you stop wastin my minutes (GMs do not have unlimited minutes…)

so negotiations take place and a market is established for their services, maybe multiple teams submit bids, but for the most part, these players probably sign on the higher end of their market value because there will still be some demand, and teams will still have to deal with MNs option to match.

So now Khan is considering exercising his option and matching the contract, but he really wants to extract some value from them because he doesn’t really want them on his team. …

Khan: Here is the thing GM X, we really like these guys and we see them as part of our future, but I like you and I would be willing to do a sign and trade if you arewilling to give up x or y pick in the future.

GM X: Nah, If you like em so much then sign them to the overmarket deal I just offered them…

    Khan: Well the thing is….

GM X: stop wasting my minutes Khan… *click*

See you cant really trade a restricted free agent during the year which they may be tendered. As this little vignette demonstrated you have no leverage when you try to do it that way. the time to trade beasley was prob last year. The only time you can trade a rfa in their tender year is when the player is good and its obvious that you want them on your team, but why would you trade them then?
