Who Should the Boston Celtics select

If the season were to end today, they’d be selecting 20th and 24th. In a deep draft class such as this one, I’d like to see the Celtics hold on to both of these picks. Barring nobody falls drastically, you’re looking at (most likely) this range of guys:

Dion Waiters, Moe Harkless, Tony Wroten, Royce White, Doron Lamb, Andrew Nicholson, Jeffery Taylor, Festus Ezeli, Fab Melo, John Jenkins, among others (didn’t list Marquis Teague as I doubt the Celts pursue another young PG).

If available, I think the majority of these guys listed would be solid fits. Guys like Harkless, Waiters, and Wroten are young and have that word "potential" written on them. If you want a safer pick, Ezeli would be decent as a backup to Garnett. Jenkins and Lamb are young 2 guards that could eventually replace Ray Allen, although neither will ever end up as good as Allen.

I’d like to see them go:

20th: Royce White (if he can overcome his anxiety issues, he could end up being one heck of a player. Learning from veterans like Pierce, Garnett, and Allen could get this kids head on right).

24th: Who ever is left out of Waiters, Harkless, or Wroten. One should be available when this pick comes up, so draft another young guy with potential to try and build around Rondo, Bradley, and Green.

 20: Arnett Moultrie

24: I could care less if they got AM. Harkless i guess. 

 I was gonna post the same thing as The Q.  It is the ideal situation, I think, although I honestly doubt that either will still be available.  As a Celtics fan, however, Moultrie and Harkless are the two players I most hope they get.  

If Harkless and Moultrie are not available, I would draft Andrew Nicholson and Jae Crowder.  I feel they would both be good fits, but they wouldn’t have the upside of Harkless or Moultrie.

 Some mocks still have Moultrie getting that far. I doubt it happens too, but it would be ideal. 

That the Celtics are going to blow it up this year? With the success that San Antonio is having recently, why can’t they keep it together and go through a slower more protracted rebuilding process? I am not a Celtics fan, but I think that it would be criminal if Pierce did not retire as a Celtic…  

With their picks at 20 and 24 I would def target players that have high upside but cannot step in right away or have some other problem. players like Wroten, White, Harkless, or Melo… Sadly I would not be suprised if they tried to break up the big three to make a move and get into the lottery. alot of the personel moves they are making recently seems to suggest that they want to evaluate their young/bench players, which suggests that something is going to go down.

Not 100% sure, but this is how Danny Ainge planned it all. Garnett and Allen both are coming off the books giving the Celtics over $31 million to spend this summer just from those contracts. They could use that cap space in various ways like signing a player, or taking on a contract in a trade for another player.

You also have to consider that the Spurs aren’t nearly as old as the Celtics. Sure Tim Duncan is 35 and Manu 34, but Parker, Leonard, Neal, Splitter, Green and Blair are all under 30, and all in the Spurs rotation. 

Personally if we let Allen walk, the Celtics should sign and trade him to a team for a pick and player, kind of like the Mayo deal that didn’t go through. I think that they package the two picks and move up to grab a player like Sullinger if he slips that far, or Myers Leonard. If things stay the same I wouldn’t mind seeing them draft Jerfery Tyler or Andrew Nicolson. Both guys can run the floor and finish at the rim, and going forward that is what the Celtics want to do with the likes of Rondo, Bradley, and Green. 

 Would be satisfied with Harkless and Nicholson…..potential Pierce and Granger

With the 20th Pick They should take: PJ3 (if he falls that far, doubt it though) or Harkless

With the 24th Pick They should take: Doron Lamb (If Ray Allen leaves) or Festus Ezeli/Fab Melo(If he has good workouts)

Fab Melo and Lamb sound good. Lamb would be a good third guard for the future behind Rondo and Avery Bradley. Fab Melo would give them another shot blocker and depth at center.

I think they need to look at Draymond Green. He fits the Celics profile. He is tough with good fundamentals. Can rebound and facilitate the offense. Could be an undersized stretch four off the bench for them similar to when they had
Big Baby but more well rounded and less pudgy. He could be a good rotation guy for years. He would give them a different look next year if they continue with the Big Three and Rondo with Avery Bradley, Brandon Bass, and Stiesmsa as rotation guys. Draymond would give them a good 3/4 if they don’t keep Jeff Green or an exclusive power forward in small lineups — picture Rondo and Allen/Bradley at guard with PP, Draymond Green, and KG up front. Either Lamb or Fab Melo would be good fits to complement DG in this draft.

Give me doron lamb at 24 who better in this draft tO replace ray allen than lamb while hes not Ray he can shoot lights out run off screens and put it on floor i think he is the most underatted prospect. At 20 id take Pj3 or Tyler Zeller one of them is gonna drop and if there not available i take terrance jones as a pitential replavement for paul pierce. Last option at 24 or 20 would be daruis miller extremely underatted 68 shooter defemder ballhandler.

 I don’t think either Harkless or Nicholson play like Pierce or Granger.  If the Celtics draft Harkless and Nicholson, I think you should hope they become a pairing like Wilson Chandler and Luis Scola.

 I posted about a week ago about how important I thiink this draft is for Boston for obvious reasons. I have Fab Melo at 20 and Royce White at 24. I think Harkless would be a nice edition too.

They took Moore and Johnson last season, two "solid" guys who were experienced in college, and it hasn’t really paid off. The Celtics have three solid young pieces in Rondo, Bradley and Green (he’s likely to come back to Beantown), but if they are going to avoid a tanking season, they need to swing for the fences with their late first rounders and take a chance on guys who could replace the star power they are going to lose when the Boston Three Party ends.

It will all come down to who is available really, but if there’s a high upside pick on the board at either PF/C, they should just take a chance and grab him.

Also, Renardo Sidney, from Miss. State, I’d love for them to take him in the second round, especially if they can re-sign KG to mentor him.
