DipoTimeParticipantSo I was looking through the history of the NBA draft and I noticed that almost every single draft has some things in common. Almost every year there is somebody
In the top 5 who just doesnt pan out for whatever reason (too many to count just look)
Later in the lottery who turns into a stud (Kobe 13th, Nowitzki 9th, Pierce 10th)
Who is reached for and makes the team look stupid (Renaldo Balkman)
Who is reached for and makes the team look genius (Iman Shumpert)
Who falls into a teams lap (Danny Granger)
Who takes forever to come overseas but then surprises everybody (Luis Scola)
Falls to 2nd round and produces (DeJuan Blair)
Jumps up to first round and does nothing (Alando Tucker)
Taken at the end of the draft and produces (Isaiah 60th, Scola 56th, Ginobili 57th)
Ok, so these dont necessarily happen in EVERY draft but they do seem to happen A LOT. Can you guys think of anymore? Also, who do you guys think will be these types of players from this year’s draft? Obviously we gotta wait until the draft but we can make predictions.
I think its just about a given that Thomas Robinson goes top 5 and I wouldnt be surprised if he didn’t pan out. Andre Drummond is a pretty obvious choice for this one too.
I think somebody like Lamb, Rivers, or PJIII would be a good choice for a later lottery stud
I think someone could reach for Teague due to lack of point guards and hoping he turns out to be his brother and they will look stupid for it.
Someone will reach for Wroten and look like a genius down the road.
Moultrie will fall into somebodys lap and produce for them
I think Furkan Aldemir could pull a Scola and be taken late in the draft, stay overseas a few years, and still come over to produce later on.
Not sure why but John Jenkins hasnt been too high on mocks lately. I could see him droppin to the early second round and being a really solid role player.
Somebody is gunna move into the first round unexpectedly like Mike Scott and it just aint gunna work for them. These players tend to be players from bigger schools and I think that influences teams to take that chance
I actually like Chase Stanback as the last overall pick and I wouldnt be surprised if he made a roster even if hes just a big shooter off the bench

jmarg25ParticipantPekovic was selected in 2008 as a second round pick, was stashed for a couple years and now is producing.

Falls to 2nd and produces: Will Barton

GlenTaylorSucksParticipantIn the top 5 who just doesnt pan out for whatever reason (too many to count just look): Drummond seems the best bet for bust potential. I think that most of those guys in the mock top 5 are pretty safe picks, even if they may not necessarily have ridiculously high ceilings (well, except for Davis, lol). Drummond, on the other hand, while he could actually be better than everyone in this class, could also totally bust.
Later in the lottery who turns into a stud (Kobe 13th, Nowitzki 9th, Pierce 10th): Austin Rivers. I think if he’s taken late in the lottery, he’s gonna be an absolute steal for some team that needs scoring punch.
Who is reached for and makes the team look stupid (Renaldo Balkman): Darius Miller. I have a gut feeling that just based on the NCAA title game, some team that’s looking for outside shooting will take him late in the first. Miller is NOT a first round talent. At best, he’s an instant offense off the bench guy.
Who is reached for and makes the team look genius (Iman Shumpert): Will Barton. I don’t understand why many mocks have him only in the 2nd round; I think some team is gonna look really smart by picking him up.
Who falls into a teams lap (Danny Granger): Arnett Moultrie. I have a feeling that just because his team was crap for some reason, that teams will see him as less talented. I think he’s a top 10 talent, but will end up falling just because of team perception.
Who takes forever to come overseas but then surprises everybody (Luis Scola): Don’t really know enough to answer.
Falls to 2nd round and produces (DeJuan Blair): Festus Ezeli. I know scouts aren’t necessarily high on this year’s C’s, but Ezeli is long and tough, and does lots of dirty work, kind of like a 5" taller version of Blair.
Jumps up to first round and does nothing (Alando Tucker): Draymond Green. I’m not convinced he’ll be anything more than a role player in the NBA- he’s way undersized to be playing PF, and not quick enough to be playing SF.
Taken at the end of the draft and produces (Isaiah 60th, Scola 56th, Ginobili 57th): Scott Machado. I don’t know if he’ll slip to the end based on workouts, but if he’s taken near the end of the draft, some team is gonna be very happy to have him. I imagine him being an Eric Maynor type- solid leader of a second unit.

RUDEBOY_ParticipantGreat Post…
OVERRATED Players..
1.Thomas Robinson might be 1 of those players that Blossom overnight that can sometimes fool ya…He’s a hard worker and good energy guy..But what position will he play in the pros?
2.John Henson is another guy i feel is overrated..Some people are comparing him to Noah, but i dont see it..Noah is a much better defender…Henson used his wingspan and length in college to guard players,in the pros he wouldnt be able to get away with that..Plus stronger small forwards constantly shoveled him out of the paint..I see some John Salley in his game..
*
Players that Might be worth the Gamble:
1.Renaldo Sidney didnt leave a very positive impression during his time at Mississippi State,He didnt want to play defense, trouble on and off the court, fights with coaches & team mates, gained toomuch weight, constantly out of shape..He left a taste so bad in scouts mouths, that i doubt if he’ll even get drafted in the late 2nd round..But whoever gives him a training camp invite and ..He has skills you cant teach…
2.Tony Wroten-He has the talent to be a top 5 selection, but scouts are worried to take him that high, becuz he failed to get his team deep in the Tourney…
3.Fab Melo didnt put up big stats at Syracuse, but i think he can be another Roy Hibbert..A project that can become an all star…
*
4.Robbie Hummel..Injuries slowed down his career, some people said 2 years ago that he was a better player then former teammates JuJaun Johnson & Moore..And both those guys are in the pros…Hummel was a 3 time all big 10 1st Team selection..Not many people can might that claim…He knows his role,a great shotter, can make plays and has the ability to post up …His only question is his defense….
*
2nd Round Gems-
1.Drew Gordon
2.Kevin Bradley
3.William Buford
4.Dee Bost
5.Scott Machado
6.Robert Sacre
7.J’Covan Brown
8.Mitchell Watt
9.Henry Sims
10.Remanja Redovic

phila9012ParticipantHe will be an NBA player he can score, and has a decent allaround game. He should be able to have an 8 to 10 year career. At least he is starting to rise up draft boards.

aamir543ParticipantOne other interesting thing, of all teams to be drafted by, Scola was drafted by the Spurs, I believe that this era of Spurs scouts have to be the best overall, I mean look at who they’ve picked up, late second round, overseas, it seems like everyone starts to produce. The other best GMs out there by public perception are Daryl Morey and Sam Presti, both smart young guys who came from the Spurs’ organization.

MJBrownParticipantIn the top 5 who just doesnt pan out for whatever reason (too many to count just look)
– Drummond seems to be the obvious choice. However as of now I have a top five of Davis, MKG, Robinson, Drummond and Beal. I feel like in 3 years or less, all 5 of these picks will have worked out nicely for their teams.
Later in the lottery who turns into a stud (Kobe 13th, Nowitzki 9th, Pierce 10th)
– Dion Waiters. I have him going at the end of the lottery and I think his game is NBA ready. He will produce for the team that takes him.
Who is reached for and makes the team look stupid (Renaldo Balkman)
– Arnett Moultrie. How do you take a guy mid first round who gives up on his team. Not a good start to a career.
Who is reached for and makes the team look genius (Iman Shumpert)
– Whoever the spurs draft — how about Jae Crowder
Who falls into a teams lap (Danny Granger)
– Tony Wroten in Memphis. I have him going 21. Start his career backing up Conley, but a great fit with the athletes on that team.
Who takes forever to come overseas but then surprises everybody (Luis Scola)
– not up to speed on intl players yet to be honest
Falls to 2nd round and produces (DeJuan Blair)
– Draymond Green. Jack of all trades don’t usually go in first round, especially as a senior. Should produce in the league though
Jumps up to first round and does nothing (Alando Tucker)
– Andrew Nicholson, gut feeling (and I’m from Toronto)
End of draft — Jared Cunningham

steppxxxxzParticipantbust: Drummond.
late lottary stud….Beal and Royce White.
Reached for and makes a team look stupid : Moultre….inflated stats, avoids physical play.
Reached for and makes a team look brilliant: Ezeli. Defensive gem.
falls into a team’s lap…..Terrence Ross. The guy is going to be elite perimeter defender AND he can shoot some.
overseas…Nemanja Nedovic….he might take forever, either.
falls to 2nd and produces….Jae Crowder.
jumps into first and does nothing: Tyshawn Taylor.
end of draft stud: Bernard James, tu holloway.

steppxxxxzParticipantRobbie Hummel
Sacre….will take a couple years….but is big, and has improved.
Marcus Denmon….improved each year…..
Holloway…sleeper, man, Id take him ahead of most of the pg’s.
Jae Crowder…tweener….but that doesnt matter so much these days. Denver would love him.
Bernard James…..who is 28, but is ready to play, is big, is strong, and is smart.

dede21I don’t see how Sidney can make he does have a decent shooting touch but I have never seen him score on the block against NBA caliber defenders, and he cannot even rebound or defend at the college level how is he going to play in the pros? Unless you know something about him getting into shape but I doubt that will happen.

FearTheStacheParticipantHe has the skills to be a good NBA player, his character is just so bad. If placed in the right situation with some good vets, I think he could potentially fill up to some of his potential
