fliptonnParticipantAlright so it looks like the Nets aren’t gonna get a top 3 pick and with the Rockets losing 6 straight it looks like they aren’t gonna get the 16th pick either so right now the only pick they have is 57th overall. On top of that, it looks like D-Will, Gerald Wallace, and Kris Humphries are gonna walk this summer. As of right now theyre lookin at single digit wins next year. So with no draft picks and virtually no good players what are the Nets gonna do? Who should they go after in free agency. Of course you have to try to retain D-Will and Wallace while trading Lopez for Dwight but in the likely chance that doesn’t work, what’s the plan? They have a ton of salary cap. Guys they should look for I think are Dragic, Eric Gordon, Batum, Speights and Chris Kaman. I know its unlikely they get Gordon but they can offer him more money than anyone else so I think maybe they have a shot. You still have Brooks, Green, and Brook. That makes Your team look like this.
PG – Dragic, Farmar
SG – Gordon, Brooks
SF – Batum, Green
PF – Lopez, Speights
C – Kaman, Lopez
I still don’t know if that team even wins enough games to make the playoffs. I could see them trying to get Ryan Anderson back or going after Beasley as well. First thing they need to do though is fire Billy King as he’s been a disaster of a GM. Either way, the near future for the Brooklyn Nets doesnt look so bright. Thoughts?

ronniemiller1kParticipantbesides the draft points you made, there is no substantial proof that any of the 3 players you named are gonna walk. we gave hump a career and wallace is not the same athlete he was, which i could see bringing his value down greatly in the open market. i could see the two of them resigning. as for d-will, it has been revisited over and over that they had to make that move and unfortunately, alot of bad luck has probably soured his opinion of the Nets future. As for King getting fired, I don’t think it is deserved at all. Prokorohov made it pretty much impossible for him to do his job the way he wanted to, via the draft. Stars are what will attract the fans to Brooklyn, which is why they went all and bust on lebron, wade, and howard and traded for dwill. for the pressure he has been in to acquire stars, while finding solid players in the draft like marshon brooks, jordan williams, and gerald green via d-league, the guy has dont an amazing job imo.

The QParticipantI still don’t understand the Gerald Wallace trade. At all.
They should’ve taken Pierce who with D-Will would’ve been enough to convince Howard to come to NJ.

fliptonnParticipantsome good points. i could see wallace resigning although i think he might be looking for wins at this point in his career. Humphries is sick of getting boo’d at home i think hes gonna go to a smaller town. Jordan Williams just is not a solid pick, he doesn’t play on a bad team thats trying to develop young guys, theres a reason. I just wanna know what the plan is. I’ve been a die hard Nets fan since i was born in ’92, through some really bad times (stephon marbury, devin harris) but with the current gameplan and the move to Brooklyn I’m thinking of renouncing my fanhood. If they don’t make some good strong moves this summer then enough is enough. As for Billy King, he still made the Gerald Wallace trade, which was potentially just throwing away a top pick. his justification was that no one outside of the top 3 really stood out to him but just because he doesnt see a superstar doesnt mean we couldnt use some depth, especially in the front court (i dont know if you’ve noticed but Sheldon Williams is starting and Johan Petro is the worst basketball player since Jason Collins). But tell me what you guys think of going after guys like dragic, batum, and kaman to put along side brook if we do end up losing those guys.

ronniemiller1kParticipanti think of all the players, hump is most likely to stay. the dude married into the circus that is kardashian, i cant see him hiding from the media in a small market now. as for jordan williams, if the kid gets in good shape i like what he brings. has a soft touch around the basket, rebounds pretty solid i’m good with that from a second round pick.
gerald wallace deal im still 50/50 on but again, i understand why it had to get done from what proky wants, he wants stars and wants to win now. his 5 year plan is for a championship. most players take atleast 2 years to come into their own unless they are on a good team, which we are not (see john wall).
as for players we could bring in, im ok with hump although i think id like to see ilyasova here too since he seems to bring more offensively. i dont think batum is coming here, i believe he is a RFA? portland sees him as a building block player which is why they cleared wallace out and will let crawford walk. would love to get dragic if deron leaves, that would be my ideal pg for this team. kaman is expensive but still very serviceable, if we can get him at 10 mill or less i would take a good look at him as well. like you mentioned, our bigs need severe upgrading so besides finding a pg if deron leaves, we have to look big first.

hubhubParticipantIt’s still a mystery for me how they could trade their pick for Gerald Wallace who contract ends this summer. I think it was the dumbest move of this years deadline. I could find some explanation if they were a playoff team and they would see Gerald Wallace as a missing piece but in their situation it was inexplicable.
Your scenario has very little chance to happen. I think that if the Hornets let Gordon go, he will end up in a Pacer uniform. Batum is also restricted and they would have to overpay him because the Blazers are very high on him so he will probably stay. They should probably try to sign Dragic and let him play with the young guys. Maybe the wont trade their 1rounder again and they will be able to draft Muhammad or Noel. There’s a long way to go for the Nets.

fliptonnParticipanti doubt we sign him too, im cool with letting brooks start if we retain gerald wallace who is a good compliment. obviously brooks has the tools to become a very good scorer in the nba. I am very adiment about getting a strong defensive center to put next to brook lopez though. they have the potential to make some good moves this summer but theyre most likely not going to like you said.

hubhubParticipantIf he really said that you cant find a superstar in this years draft besides the first 3 picks he should just get fired after saying that.
Drummond, Barnes, Jones, Beal, Lamb, Rivers – there a good chance that they all will be avaible to the team with the 4 pick. And the probably traded one of them for the expiring contract of Gerald Wallace. This can be a move which will make him famous if one of this players reaches his potential.

SmooveKRYPTParticipantSign Robin Lopez to be the defensive C.
How great would it be having the Lopez twins on the billboard as their stars opening the Barclays Center. Lol0 - Posted on: Fri, 04/20/2012 - 8:44am #662011
fliptonnParticipantI hope we go after Asik, if Kaman is gone i think Asik is a good piece to build on hes shown us what he can do in Chicago, i just hope we dont over pay him which seems inevitable.

Memphis MadnessParticipantIf the draft lottery were fixed (lol) I could see the Nets getting a top 3 pick or even the number one pick. Anthony Davis would help the franchise and might entice D-Will into staying.
Besides, AD would probably wilt in Charlotte with that bad team. New Orleans could use AD but the Hornets already got the all-star game and they could use T Rob or MKG or Harrison Barnes too.
Those are the three teams that need AD the most with the Nets making the most sense out of a marketing/strategic perspective. Brooklyn needs talent. AD would help D Will out a lot.
Sacto could use a shot blocking beast next to Cousins but the NBA doesn’t give that team too many favors.
I would bet that the top 3 picks will be Nets (1), Charlotte (2), and New Orleans (3). NO getting the first pick would raise conspiracy whispers. The Nets getting the top pick would too but sometimes things just have to be done.
The NBA can’t have the Brooklyn Nets implode. It wouldn’t look good if a major market team (NYC) moved to San Jose.
I think fans would pay to see D-Will, AD, Marshon Brooks, Gerald Wallace (if he stays), Gerald Green, and Brook Lopez (ok, ok, nobody pays money to watch Brook pay, but still). Might not be a legit contender but that team could be decent next year and make a run at the playoffs in two years.

The QParticipantNO will get the first pick via Minny’s pick.
That way:
1) conspiracy is slightly less
2) Minny fans can never say their pick never moved up in the lottery process.

HitsterParticipantCrash has an $11.1 mllion option which personally I can see him picking up, he turns 30 this summer and has had 11 years in the league now which gives him a fair few miles on the clock. Add in his physical playing style and his next contract could well be his last major one and with teams reluctant to give long contracts to guys into their 30’s, Crash would need to get a very good offer to opt out.
D-Will nobody knows what he will do but the draft could have a huge impact on that, if NJ gets say Anthony Davis then I believe he will stay as he has a long term running mate for the rest of his career but if does opt out then the Nets will have a load of cap space but who they would spend it on I don’t know.
Brook Lopez could be an interesting situation for if he gets back to full fitness he is one of the most prolific frontcourt scorers in the NBA but add in the rebounding issue, his injury etc so his market value could vary. Likewise he might be happy to commit to NJ or he may still be annoyed he was not extended last summer and could well look to move on or opt oin fore a year and hope his old form comes back and then he is a very attractive FA in 2013.
With the players and picks the Nets have given up, it’s hard to judge their worth, Favours is still a reserve at Utah so we don’t know just how good he could be as he maybe needs 25 to 30 mpg regularly now. Last year with 3rd pick no-one knows what they might have done, all the bigs in that draft region are still developing and unless they had maybe reached for Brandon Knight then it would be hard to say.
This year anything outside the top 3 goes to Portland and a pick that was due from GSW goes to Utah as part of the D-Will deal. Currently these picks are 7th and 8th in a deep draft which the Nets could have used to get another two good prospects or maybe trade up into the top 3. Throw in the possible Houston pick remaining with them and the Nets could have give up 4 top 10 picks within 3 years and have nothing to show for it.
The Knicks have traded several top 10 picks away but at least they now have a competitive team, NJ could end up with nothing!
Despite the spending power of their owner, a high profile recruiter in Jay-Z, a new Arena in Brooklyn, the Nets just cannot seem to attract anyone.
With Dwight Howard, I still wonder why he just didn’t accept the trade and then if he was unhappy merely become an FA this summer and go to wherever he wanted.

ronniemiller1kParticipanteverything everyone is saying makes ense about draft picks, but you are missing the bigger picture. the russian wants to win now, he doesn’t want to build slow via the draft like okc. he wants an immediate return on his investment which means star players. regardless of the outcome, i like our 2 and 3 spot and if brook comes back healthy, think we can still play well enough to make it to the playoffs with or without dwill (i havent eaten for about 5 hours though)

TruettParticipantAre restricted Free agents… their teams will most likely match any offer…so you are not getting them. Beasley, Dragic, Kaman might be possible since it seems like MN has abandoned beasley and the remaining two are UFAs so they will probably follow the $s. Also what about Jeff Green? If his medical issues have cleared up he is a UFA too…

HitsterParticipantOne deal that I thought the Nets might have looked at or may be able to resurect if the pick doesn’t to Portland and it isn’t Anthony Davis is a deal whereby they take Iggy from Philly for the draft pick or right to swap draft picks.
This would be a good deal for both teams as Iggy is always suggested as being an ideal running mate for a star player in this case D-Will so the Nets fulfil that need and it could persuade D-Will to stay. A core of Crash Wallace, Brook Lopez and Iggy gives D-Will a quality core alongside him backed up by Brooks and maybe Green.
Philly get to create salary space by moving Iggy and can put Turner into his better long term role and get another top 3 pick in return where they can look for maybe a long term front courter lets say Thomas Robinson.
When NJ moved for Crash Wallace, I had felt it could have been Iggy but with Philly in play off contention I could see why they would not have wanted to trade their best player.
I know the teams are in the same division but don’t forget that NJ’s President Billy King oversaw the drafting of Iggy when he worked at Philly and Philly’s current President Rod Thorn held a similar role with the Nets for a decade. So what I think could be a mutually beneficial move for both teams could be done by two team heads who would be prepared to indirectly help their former teams.
