It would be a blessing if we could sneak a 3 or 4th pick with Thomas Robinson. I think he would be the best pick playing aside Demarcus Cousins. Jason Thompson and Chuck Hayes is our current 4’s. It doesn’t get more suspect then that. We all know what Thomas Robinson will bring to the table. Monstar

I disagree, if the Kings were to target a PF they’d need one who could help with weakside shotblocking. Cousins isn’t too bad guarding his own man, but he’s poor at protecting the paint. Unless you can grab Anthony Davis or Andre Drummond you address their lack of a SF.

The SF position is a greater need and they need someone at the 3 who can hit an outside shot, Barnes is the ideal pick for the Kings, he defends, plays within the team concept and can hit big shots without being a volume shooter. If they can’t get Barnes then they pursue MKG and move Jimmer into the starting lineup to provide outside shooting from the PG spot.

i definitely think the Kings would be drafting in the PF section and Thomas Robinson is their guy if they dont win the lotto. if you asked me the exact same question a month ago, i would have said small forward since i like pairing up thompson beside cousins, good length, athletisicm and mid range jumper, but with the emergence of Terrence Williams, who slashes, crashes the boards and creates for others, i think they might address the four spot instead, especially since both the players i mentioned will be free agents, but theres a higher chance that Thompson will ask for a higher price than Williams. so drafting a power forward will be more beneficiall for the kings in negotiating since they can have someone who will take the other’s spot.

in fact, i wouldnt be surprised if the kings drop after the lotto at lets say the 5th or 6th spot(they can go as low as 7 i believe if the season ended today) and package their pick and tyreke evans for Anthony Davis. although based on another thread, most people dont think that whoever wins the lotto will go for such a deal. itll still be interesting to see. A young promising talent, former rookie of the year still in his rookie deal plus a high pick in the draft for the unibrow?

Wizards don’t need a pg, and Kings do not need a PF/C.  Wall and Cousins spots are secure

If they, Kings, cannot get AD or MKG, I think they should go into the the direction of a large SF/PF like Terrance Jones. He rebounds, plays great defense and can block shots. I like TRob, but I don’t think they need another PF and TRob can’t play the SF spot.

The Wizards same thing with AD or MKG. I do think TRob will fit on the Wiz. They need a hard worker

They don’t need a guy who can slash and create for others at the 3 spot, they need a guy who can reliably hit the outside shot and bring a team-first mentality.

Terrence Williams hasn’t "emerged", he’s the same player he’s always been the Kings are just happy to let him play his preferred point forward role off the bench and he’s producing. By no means is he a sure thing for the Kings at the SF in the future.

Thomas Robinson doesn’t give them anything Cousins can’t do better, he can’t score in the post as well, he can shoot okay from deep, but nothing special, and Cousins rebounds like a monster, so he hardly needs help there. I don’t think they should draft Robinson unless it’s to package him for two picks later in the draft (maybe take Portland’s pick and New Jersey’s pick?)

The kings need veterans players. Trading their pick (outside of no.1) would be wiser, with Evans, Cousins and co they are already loaded with young talents. Maybe a trade for a lower pick would be good. But if they want a play off spot they gonna need vets. Like when they had Doug Christie and Vlade Divac during their great era supporting C-Webb, Peja and Bibby.

If they get the first pick of course they draft Davis, they can go for MKG too, otherwise I think their pick would be a good value in a trade to get a veteran or 2.

I don’t think they need someone who is a scorer or a shooter first.  They have Evans and Thornton who have averaged 20+ ppg before.  Isaiah Thomas is a guy who averages 15 ppg as a starter and Cousins is the most promising young post scorer in the league right now.  Not to mention, they drated Jimmer to shoot 3’s off the bench.

They need a guy to do the dirty work and I think MKG or Robinson would be very good fits for the Kings or even rolling the dice on Drummond would make more sense than drafting another scorer like Beal or Barnes.

Sacremento is 9th in the league in scoring and LAST in the league in points allowed.  Why would they draft another scorer?  They score more points per game than a hand full of playoff teams, but they allow more points than any other team in the league.  They are also ranked 28th in the league in offensive rebounds allowed, adding Robinson ( the nations best defensive rebounder) or MKG would provide a mentality and a player greatly needed in Sacramento.  What’s the difference in adding another scorer when your team gives up 105 ppg on 48% shooting?

The Kings need a plan.  They should trade Tyreke before his value utterly plummets and they need to figure out potentially every position but Center.  Thornton, Thomas, Jimmer, and Williams all seem better coming off the bench on a good team, and really, even a good team doesn’t need THAT much scoring from it’s bench.  Between moving Tyreke and the draft they should be able to address 3 positions.  If they can package some bench scoring for the fourth…

Barnes is more than just a shooter, he’s also a committed defender who will do the dirty things it takes to win.

There’s a difference between being a scorer and being a shooter too, yes Evans put up 20ppg and Thornton too, but Thornton and Evans can’t co-exist long-term, one of them has to go, and while Thornton is a good shooter from range, he doesn’t move off the ball particularly well and is nowhere near the defender Evans is. The Kings play 1v5 for the most part, bringing a team attitude to the offense is the first step to getting people to buy in defensively.

I’d be happy for the Kings to select MKG over Barnes, as they could use a defensive stopper at the SF (Evans already has great hands, adding MKG on the perimeter would be perfect), but I’d take either over Robinson as I don’t think his skillset brings anything to the table which Barnes or MKG don’t also have whilst filling more of a positional need.

Robinson reminds me of another Kansas tweener in Marcus Morris, a guy who has dropped completely off the map, and has many similarities to Robinson (undersized but battles, skilled for his position, versatile, not a great shooter). Robinson is a physical marvel in the college ranks, but he wouldn’t have a physical advantage over more than maybe 5-10 starting PFs in the NBA, and when that’s your selling point, it doesn’t say top-4 pick to me.

omphalos, I watch a lot of Kansas basketball and Morris and Robinson are completely different players.  Morris was very much a tweener, he didn’t have the athletic ability or speed to be a 3 at an NBA level, but his game was very much like a 3.

Robinson is a 4 through and through, he never played the 3 all season and only shot 14, 3 pointers at Kansas so I guess I don’t really see where people keep classifying him as s tweener.  He scored the majority of his points on the block and unlike Morris, who was not long at all, Robinson has a recorded 7’1” wingspan and superior strength and athletic ability.

You are right, Robinson will not be the most athletic 4 in the NBA, but I don’t understand how 6’9” with a 7’1” wingspan and a muscular 240 lbs is so undersized while Derrick Favors was measured at 6’8.75” barefoot with a 7’4” wingspan and 245 lbs is the ideal size for a power forward…..They’re more or less the same size…

(That’s not a game comparison, its’ purely to demonstrate my opinion and confusion as to why Robinson is constantly called undersized)

Okay, I’ll admit I didn’t watch that much Kansas basketball when Morris was there so that comparison is a bit off. That said, I have seen Robinson play a few times, and even though he scored inside, I rarely saw him score inside with legitimate post moves, the majority were on put backs and hustle points, which were a result of his athleticism. Games when he was matched up with NBA calibre opposition like Davis and Sullinger he really wasn’t that impressive, and that energy is going to last playing regular minutes in the grind of the NBA.

The few times I saw Robinson do something impressive all came when he drove past his man on the perimeter for an athletic layup.

I’m not going to get into a whole thing with trying to convince people that Robinson is overrated, because it’s all just conjecture until it plays out in the pros, and I know it’s not a commonly held opinion.

My main point is that he’s not a good enough fit with the Kings to warrant taking him over Barnes or MKG.

Also, I’m very suspicious of any measurements until the draft combine, a lot of guys are oversold on their height in college, and Robinson looked more or less the same size as Sullinger when they were battling in the Final Four.

If they happen to get the 1st pick..take Davis!! and trade cousin for drummond to who ever picks him…there you have your new twin towers in the making..would love to watch them play together…and seriously give jimmer a chance to play running off screens and popping 3’s! If not why the heck draft him in the 1st place! All he needs is confidence from the team to take the shot! We all know what confidence does to your shooting. Given a choice i would trade evans for MKG in a heart beat. Well you guess must be thinking im dreaming but lets hope this dream comes true! For the sake of the team staying in sac town! I miss the old days when the old kings were playing. We got the best fans!

Just as a bit of an aside, are Kings fans out there frustrated that they passed up on Brandon Knight or Kawhi Leonard for Jimmer?

Knight would have been the perfect backcourt partner for Evans, he’s young, athletic, is showing in Detroit he can play on and off the ball, is a capable outside shooter, defends his position well and is a high character guy. Knight is thriving alongside Stuckey in a two combo-guard lineup, think about how well he’d work with Reke?

I used to look to the Kings as a team which was making good moves in the draft and heading in the right direction after taking Evans then Cousins, but passing on Knight (and Biyombo as a shot-blocker/dirty work guy alongside Cousins to an extent) was a terrible decision. I’ve been told the Maloofs took a personal hand in the drafting of Jimmer, thats the sort of involved ownership you don’t want.

royc3y has the right idea.  That team needs a major make over.  Obviously the chances of that happening aren’t that high, but that would have a team with a lot of high character guys which would hopefully light a fire under Drummond and make them a very scary team in the future.

    PG Thomas
    SG Thornton
    SF MKG
    PF Drummond
    C  Davis

    Bench:
    6 PG/SG Jimmer
    7 SG/SF T-Will
    8 PF/C Thompson

I used to get points taken away when I said that the Kings should draft Jared Sullinger if their pick falls outside the top 5.  If they pick at 5 or 6 T Rob might not be there and Sully could be a good rebounder and enforcer type that the Kings would need.  He can hit some jumpers and score some inside.  If I were the Kings I would put Anthony Davis as my top choice, T Rob second, and Sullinger third if they can’t move up in the draft.

Barnes wouldn’t be a bad pick.  But, they would need to move Marcus Thornton or Tyreke Evans.  Probably Thornton.  They could probably move him for a decent draft pick and another player.

I think they need to take some who is good mentally, practices hard and is a team player which will have a positive effect on the team.

MKG would be perfect, but then again there are prob 5 or 6 other teams who would love to have him also…

Sullinger is a bad fit with the Kings, they already have a powerful inside guy in Cousins, but they need to find a skilled, long guy who can help with the D. They should be looking for a Gasol to pair with their Bynum, because starting two guys at the 4/5 who struggle with conditioning is a recipe for disaster.

To answer Omphalos. As a Kings fan I am extremly frustrated they passed on both Leonard and Knight.

The Kings need a major makeover. If they end up with davis that is great but I would like to see them select MKG, Barnes, Drummond, in that order if they are still there and they do not get the first pick.

I like Drummonds as a pick because he will have to beat out Jason Thompson to get minutes and the means he will not get anything.  He and Cousins can be a solid front court.  If Kings draft a small forward, then they have to trade Evans.  The new line up that has had some success is Thomas PG Thornton SG and Evans SF.  If they had  a reliable 4 and a solid bench, they could be a playoff team.  This line up have kept them competitive against some really good teams.  The ideal situation would be to get the number one pick and pair Cousins and Davis who both were one and dones from Kentucky.   Sac needs Vets and a solid bench.  I like Jimmer, Williams, Garcia Hayes, and for the future Whiteside.  Everyone else can be moved.

I think they can win 35 to 40 games just by having their current starting line up healthy from the begining.  If they can get someone that can help their bench or starting line up, they could do even better and sneak into the playoffs.

New coach, MKG, whatever 2 players they get for Reke (not checking trade machine, but Gordon and Kaman in a sign and trade?, Turner and Brand, Vesely and thw Wiz pick, so on) and Cousins with, ideally, Thornton off the bench.  That, besides, obviously, Davis, would be perfect for this club.

Why not BPA? If it’s a big that guy can play alongside Cousins, a small foward would be ideal, and I believe they’d stay away from a guard unless somone falls a lot. The main problem to me is that it’s becoming clear that you can’t win with Tyreke, but he’s still a great talent, but has anyone in the history of the leage had more trouble with what position they’re going to play? I mean Tyreke has to be the most flexible fantasy player since you could start him at 8 of the 10 starting spots because he’s listed as a PG/SG/SF, lol.

" I mean Tyreke has to be the most flexible fantasy player since you could start him at 8 of the 10 starting spots because he’s listed as a PG/SG/SF, lol"

That’s the question that the Kings have to figure out this draft; What position is Tyreke Evans? I think it’s obvious that he isn’t a PG, so that leaves SG and SF. If the Kings still get a top 4 pick do the Kings think Tyreke is really better then Barnes/Beal/MKG/Lamb?

The Kings should look to build around Cousins, and it will be hard to take a player who doesn’t fit well with him in this draft. Drummond and Cousins could be a scary offensive/defensive duo for years, and would add some crazy size.

MKG would give then some more size, and even better, a defensive wing. Barnes, Beal, and Lamb would really give then a perimeter player to work with Demarcus.

What does Tyreke give them that’s better then any of those guys? He’s an all around player, but just doesn’t fit well
