ESPN’s Jason King reports Larry Brown agreed to a deal with SMU. Shout out to my boy Blaise Mbargorba and good luck to the team moving forward.

If SMU is still in Conference USA next year it should be an interesting game between Memphis and SMU. SMU has played us tough before. We have the better players but SMU has a coaching legend now. Something to look out for now.

For a mid-major team I think that since they don’t get the big recruits anyway, the thing to do is get a damn good coach and try to win that way similar to what Rick Majerus is doing in St. Louis.

Why do some people dislike Larry Brown?

Yeah I made a thread prior to his interviewing speculating about his potential impact at SMU. http://nbadraft.net/forum/larry-brown-smu-impact Hopefully he remembers how to recruit, because there are seven uncommited recruits from the state of Texas in the 2013 ESPNU Super 60, including one right in SMU’s backyard of Dallas, Texas in Julius Randle. SMU isn’t a top-level program like UNC, UK, or Duke, but you think some top recruits would want to play for a Hall-of-Fame coach that’s had a lot of success at the NBA and the NCAA and is considered to be one of the best teachers of the game.

I believe is a better college coach than NBA. As most of you know he’s the only coach to win both an NCAA championship and an NBA championship. In only seven years as a coach he had an overall record of 177-61, made has made it past the first round every year, has had 3 final four appearences and one national championship win. On top of that he’s won over 2000 games as an NBA coach with a .548 win percentage which would have been a lot higher if he didnt take those knicks and bobcats jobs. @ Toungue out like 23 the reason some people dont like him is because his final four appearence was vacated for illegal benefits from a previous coach (first ever), his stint with Allen Iverson (though fairly successful) was controversial, and he could not revive the Knicks or help the new Bobcats. He also was the coach of that Olympic team that won bronze in 2004 which was a big dissapointment.

Wow, thats a surprise and a great hire.  I, for one, think Brown will improve recruiting there.  He’ll be able to get guys by saying….I won an NBA championship and I know what it takes to help you prepare to be an NBA player.  Not to mention he coached a #1 overall pick in college.
