Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantAfter reading an article on ESPN, it stated that Russell Westbrook should be on the All-NBA 1st-Team. With Rose being injured so much and Chris Paul’s Clippers and Rondo’s Celtics are a 4th seed in the playoffs at this moment, and Deron’s Nets well… you get the picture.
Is it fair to put Russell Westbrook on the All-NBA 1st-Team?
Westbrook is 5th in the league in scoring at 24.3 PPG while shooting a career high 46.6%. His assists numbers have gone down from 8.2 to 5.4 more so because his team needs him, Durant, and Harden to score as much as possible.

Memphis MadnessParticipantYou sure can make a case for him. Well, if he doesn’t make it then who? I can see it being Kobe and Chris Paul but Westbrook deserves as much attention as those two guys.
Rondo deserves some respect too, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the two LA guys make the first team with Rondo and Westbrook making second team. That would put Wade on the third team with either Tony Parker (my pick), D Rose, or Deron Williams.

SeattleSuperChronicsParticipantI hate Russ Westbrook. But with that being said yeah he probably should be first team.
Rose has either been hurt or the bulls have been giving him as much rest as poss since they’ve had the number 1 seed locked up for months now.
Give Chris Paul one more season with griffin and it would of been him hands down.
Real talk d-will should get consideration.

IndianaBasketballParticipantRussell Westbrook is deserving, but how can you leave off Chris Paul? He’s only turned around the worst franchise in sports…
Rose has been injured, but it looks like Chris Paul has taken back his spot on the PG throne.

LawDeeZeeParticipanti don’t have a problem with Russel Westbrook being there, with Rose’s injuries and having missed a third of the season i would disagree with giving him even third team status. i know it’s not his fault that he was injured, but the guys who have played brilliantly for the whole season deserve the honor more.
i would argue however for Chris Paul to be considered … he’s coasting for much of games and just turning it on in the fourth quarters (look at the 4th quarter numbers). that is a huge credit and a pretty significant knock on him both at the same time. when he wants to be, he still runs a team better than ANYONE and is very capable of carrying a heavy scoring load as well. i think in the playoffs he’ll show more of a sense of urgency to prolong his dominance over the course of the whole game.
so if we put westbrook 1st, paul 2nd, it has to be rondo 3rd, right? he’s had a pretty awesome season!

aamir543ParticipantYou can’t argue against it, he’s been a beast this season, establishing himself as one of the premier scoring guards, his assists being down is misleading, it’s because they’re playing him off the ball and Durant and Harden on the ball more. You can put him above Rose because Rose has been injured so much, Wade has been injured but even though he’s had a great efficent season in his own right, you can easily argue to put Westbrook ahead of him, you have to put CP3 there, because this Clippers team is essentially the same plus Caron Butler and CP3 instead of Eric Gordon. He has turned them into a legit contender, so he gets in, now here is the pressing question: Kobe or Westbrook?
This is a sensitive topic for some, and in the end it’ll go to Kobe unless we have another a couple 40 and 40 games from Westbrook and Durant, but if you really look at who deserves it, Kobe is shooting it at 43% from the field, to Westbrook’s 47%. Kobe is shooting the three at 29.9% from three, on 1.5 for 5 per game, to Westbrook’s 33% on 1 for 3 per game, Kobe has 5.4 boards per game, and 4.6 dimes, to Westbrook’s 4.6 boards and 5.5 asssists. If you look at metric stats, Westbrook and Kobe are nearly identical as for as defensive production, but when you look at offensive production, Westbrook ahead of Kobe by a decent margin.
Does Wetbrook deserve it over Kobe, Yes, he’s had the better season, and helped his team in more ways. Is the media really gonna give a guy in Oklahoma City the nod over their prince in LA? Hell to the no. And before people start calling this a lifetime achievment award, just wait till a 42 year old Kobe averaging 14 points on 35% shooting gets voted in by the coaches, lol.
And one interesting thing I realized after reading Memphis Madness’ post, is that Westbrook is definatly making first or second team, so is Kobe, Rondo is either going to make 2nd or 3rd, so after Paul, Kobe, Westbrook, and Rondo take the first and second team honors(not sure whether they would give it to Rose over Rondo even though he’s missed so many games, or if he’s even eligible) that leaves you with 2 spots for Rose/Rondo, Wade, Parker, and D-Will. D-Will is out, Wade will get it, so I honestly think that as great Rose is and has played when he’s played, he’s been out too much, so I think Parker and Wade will get on the third team. If Rose gets on at all it’ll be on the second team. Sounds crazy, but the NBA is the craziest sport on the planet and that’s why I love it.

IndianaBasketballParticipantHoward not on the first team? Seriously… Y’all might want to look at Minnesota’s record.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 04/16/2012 - 3:01pm #660190
llperezi dont think love should effect howards spot on first team since all nba teams are pretty strict about picking two gaurds, two forwards and a legit center.
As for my teams:
1st team: kobe bryant, chris paul, lebron james, kevin durant, dwight howard
2nd team: dwyane wade, russell westbrook, kevin love, dirk nowitzki, andrew bynum
3rd team: rajon rondo, tony parker, lamarcus aldridge, blake griffin, al jefferson

aamir543ParticipantHoward has to be on the first team, but it’ll be the closest in years, some voters won’t like the way Howard has gone about his buisness this season, Bynum has been great, he’s a better low post scorer than Dwight, but all-around Dwight gets it done, he should and will be on the first team, but don’t be surprised if Bynum comes close.
And we all know Bynum has been on a scoring tear of late, so let’s say he gets 30 4 of these last 7 games, and his average goes up to somthing like 19.5 and 12.5, which we’ll all round up to 20 and 13, and compare it to Dwight’s 20 and 14. I still think Dwight is the best center in the league, still not a doubt, but when you consider how much Bynum has improved just in the season, who knows how great he can be, and he’s only 24.

IndianaBasketballParticipant@Llperez
Where is Pau Gasol, who’s averging over 17 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 block and shooting over 50% from the field on a top five team in the NBA?
0 - Posted on: Mon, 04/16/2012 - 3:13pm #660194
aamir543Participant^The only place you can put Gasol is over Jefferson, and I’m sure the voters wouldn’t have a problem with classifying Gasol as a C, however I don’t have a problem giving the nod to Jefferson. 19 and 9 in 34mintues per game, leading a young team into the playoff race, I wouldn’t have a problem with either one though.
And llperez, I think Dirk is one team too high, I think he’ll make it on the third team, either Griffin or ALdrige will go up to the 2nd team.

llperezin my defense i did mine right now off the top of my head so i might change a few things actually. Pau has been playing very well lately and probably deserves to be on there over aldridge based on team record.

aamir543Participant^You’ve got a few stretches there, not a big deal, but you left off some key guys. Although I like how you put both Duncan and Garnett, I feel that if one makes it, the other has to as well. I don’t have too much of a problem, Aldridge wasn’t able to keep his team from sinking even though he’s had a fantastic season, It’s ridiculous that none of us have talked about how good those guys have been playing, and I hope you forgot, but you forgot Kevin Love, did you forget him, or why did you leave him off? And I still think 2nd team is too high for Dirk, he deserves to be on the 3rd team though.

ghettosermonParticipantI think if guys like Garnett, Al Jefferson, or even Dirk for that matter get all NBA mentions so should Josh Smith. He’s averaging 19 ppg, 9.6 rpg, 4 apg, 1.8 bpg, 1.4 spg, for one of the more consistent teams in the East. Mind you not the Hawks have been without Horford this year and Joe Johnson has been either hurt or crappy for much of the year, he’s the best player on what I think is an overacheiving team based off their talent this year compared to teams like New York. He got an allstar snub but definitely deserves all NBA mentions. He’s also the top defender on the team, he can guard the post but also man’s up on LeBron and even Dwade at times.

IndianaBasketballParticipant@ghettosermon
I agree with you. Josh Smith was a tough omission. Steve Nash and Al Jefferson were tough omissions as well.
Winning is awarded in the NBA. At one point, Lamarcus Aldridge looked like an All-NBA selection and his team the amongst the best in the league… However, then it all came crashing down.
Kevin Love’s team is 25-37. His numbers suggest he’s an MVP candidate and on par with NBA legends, but where are the wins? It’s arguable he isn’t even the most important player on his team.
I think it’s time for people to stop pretending Pau Gasol isn’t still a top five player at his position just because he played poorly during last season’s playoffs. He’s still arguably the most complete player at his position. He’s no doubt in my mind an All-NBA selection.

aamir543ParticipantI can agree with you on all of that, but Love has to be there. 26 and 13 has to get somewhere there, and he will get on an All-NBA team, and I know it’s hard but I really hope both Duncan and Garnett get on, they’ve really turned the clock back these past couple months, In his past 10, Duncan is averaging 17 and 10 in only 28 minutes, that is efficiency. Imagine if Manu gets rolling, they’ll be primed for a deep playoff run, although you never know this year, it’s wide wide open, and all you need to do is get in.
Manu, Timmy, and Parker are all out tonight against my Dubs, I’m dissapointed because I thought this was an automatic loss. But I love what Pop is doing with his big three, keeping them fresh, they just have to take care of buisness tommorrow and they’ll basically be locked into the two seed. Guys will really be rested this year. Gallo and Chandler have had injuries, Wade was rested against Charlotte, and tonight against NJ, he’ll get some more time off, the Big 3 in Boston will get some more time off as well, Rose had a month off, Kobe is gonna get a total of 2 weeks, Stoudemire will have had a month, Howard two weeks, albiet they’re all coming back from injuries, rest has gotta be worth somthing.
And I like your point about Gasol. Dude is gonna be a 16 and 8 guy when he’s 37, his stats aren’t as guady because A) Kobe is chasing MJ and can’t stop, and B) Bynum is getting more touches. He’s still extremely skilled and is a very underated rebounder. and shot blocker

BlueLacesParticipantMy list is identical to llperez’s.
And while the Wolves record is 25-37, that is not even close to a reflection on how good they could have been. There is no team in the league that has had as many injuries to significant contributers as the Wolves have. Rubio, Pekovic, Beasley, JJ and Ridnour have all missed significant time (not to mention Love might be sidelined for the rest of the season with his concussion). Had the Wolves been healthy all year, they would had been a top 6 team in the West. Anyone who consistently watches them would most likely agree, they were playing that well when Rubio was healthy. Love did all he could to keep them afloat and was playing out of his mind for a little bit, injuries just got the best of them.
