mookieParticipantThere’s been a couple threads recently started talking about whether Kobe is an MVP candidate. First off, its Kobe…he’s going to be an MVP candidate almost every year. Will he win? NO!
Why won’t he win? Cuz the MVP has become a media popularity contest. It doesn’t go to the MVP of the league it goes to who the media hypes up. Its been that way for a while. Kobe is who he is. He should have one at least 1 more MVP, this season isn’t one of them. MVP of the finals is what he aims for because that can’t be measured in anyother way other than performance.

mgreener_34ParticipantKobe shouldn’t be considered for the MVP this year, and that is kind of obvious. The numbers don’t even look that good, and he’s having a Jerry Stackhouse 99-00/01 type of year. 28 points on 23 shots, really Kobe? You say the MVP is just a popularity contest, but then state that Kobe is always going to be in the discussion because well, he’s Kobe. Kind of counterintuitive. Durant, LeBron, Paul, Westbrook, and as of late players like Rondo and Parker have really stepped it up over Kobe.

mookieParticipantThere is no way ya’ll gonna tell me the NBA MVP hasn’t turned into a media popularity contest. Steve Nash winning twice, when duncan won over kidd, drose winning it. It used to be a legit award but the last 8 years of so…I dont know man. Everyone hates on Kobe on this site but he still King of the Rings! And by "being in talks" doesnt mean he’s top 1 or 2 but he is top 5 in talks

llperezi would have kobe third behind lebron and durant. Hes not gonna win, but hes in the discussion. This is really an unexciting year for mvp though. Lebron and durant are doing the same things they always do but noone has really blown up this year are gone crazy.

I think 3rd is way to high. There are many more deserving players this year than Kobe.

MJBrownParticipantGotta like Durant’s chances. I hope Chris Paul gets some votes simply for making the Clips relevant again
