Manning cut by the Colts…

Translation of cutting Peyton:

Jim Irsay:"You’ve been the face of our franchise from day one, you’ve worked your a$$ off, broke records, won MVPs, cemented yourself as the greatest QB of your generation, and one of the greatest of all time, you brought glory to our city, and our fans………………..but we won Andrew Luck! Screw You, get out!

While everyone did see it coming, still disappointing and disrespectful from the Colts hierarchy to end Manning’s Colts career (Superbowl Champ, 4x MVP)  this way.

To those who say "NBA players should be loyal to their teams and not request trades and want to leave" this proves there is no such thing as loyalty in sports.  It’s a business.  Loyalty is just another scheme used by agents and GMs to move around numbers on contracts.

 We all know football has the least loyalty out of all major sports.  And that’d be great to see Payton on Cards but we still have Kolb and his rediculous contract

 Manning is a legend and he gave that franchise a lot of great football, but I hope he signs with the Titans and sticks it to the Horseshoe…May they have 7 years of bad LUCK…

I want Manning and Wayne to sign with the Titans, Chris Johnson and Manning/Wayne would be sick…

As a titans fan I think Peyton would put us at about 11 wins. He makes an offensive line look so much better because of his awareness and internal clock. This is all a pipe dream though. He’s not coming to Nashville 

He needs to go to San Francisco or Baltimore (although they wouldn’t just give up on Flacco like that). You shouldn’t treat an icon like this, but whatever Colts don’t care.

In terms of best fits, Baltimore is #1, but like you said it won’t happen.

As a longtime Colts fan, I haven’t figured out how I feel about this yet.

One one hand, I feel upset. I understand that football is a team game, but Lucas Oil Stadium was built on Peyton Manning’s back. I just feel like Jim Irsay should’ve treated Manning with a little more respect. I mean, before Manning came, the Colts were basically irrellivant. Once again, I understand football is a team game, but Manning was the face of this franchise. Without him, the city of Indianapolis doesn’t get a superbowl. A little loyalty to Manning would’ve been nice.

However, on a business side… I can understand it. Manning is coming off of a serious injury. What if he gets hurt again? Then what? This draft has a near can’t miss quarterback in Andrew Luck. All good things come to an end. Even Joe Montana was replaced by Steve Young. And money wise, cutting Manning just made sense. 

It’s bitter feeling, but I guess business is business. This is why I’ll never care for an owner going "boo hoo" though because they’ll cut a player and show no loyalty in a minute if it’s good for their business. People can’t get mad when players do the same.  

I just hope there are no bad feelings going forward because Manning has done so much here. I hope he wins a superbowl next year.

 i dont know how andrew luck is going to fare with this. whatever he does will be compared to peyton manning and i can only imagine what will happen if he has a subpar rookie season. them indy fans gonna be crying for peyton! but on the other side i think it was a good decision for the colts. clearly they weren’t gonna be super bowl contenders even with peyton considering the lack of talent the roster showed last year. they were probably going to be perennial playoff team coming up short for the rest of peyton’s career if he had came back. this way, they could refresh the roster and rebuild to win a super bowl

for the past few years it always seemed to me like the jets were a QB away from being true super bowl contenders. with manning i think it makes them a top 5 team. i also think it would b cool to share NYC with his little brother, maybe a little extra motivation. i hope peyton can get one more championship before his career is through.

IF Peyton ends up on the Jets, it’d be interesting.

i think the rex thing is probably the reason it wont happen. he loves being in charge and is a loud mouth. unlike rex, manning has never been controversial at all. i think if they sign manning they need to tell rex to shut the hell up and learn from the professionalism that manning will bring.

 I hate to see Manning just cut like that… But in the end, yes its a business and it actually does help Manning. Now he gets to PICK which team he signs with rather than getting traded to any team that would offer a good package for him. I don’t think Manning should take it personally but for god sake he’s like 38 or something isn’t he? They had to go young at some point.

I personally think Manning is overratted. He may be the greatest regular season QB ever but in the playoffs he is mediocre he may have a sb but so does Joe Namath and he was average

 Pretty sure Peyton threw high 20’s in picks as a rookie, like 28.

Edit: Checked it, Manning had 26 TDs and 28 ints.

The worst thing about Peyton to the Jets would be the tireless TV converage it would get. It would blow hte media up. Rex’s mouth would move faster than Ty Lawson.

 I’m happy they cut Manning. Having only Manning OR Luck on a football field next year would not have been good for the sport. 

Being a Colts fan, I hate that Manning is going to have to be moving on somewhere else. I was really hoping that they would follow the Green Bay model when they drafted Aaron Rogers and still had Bret Favre play for I think 3 years. We could’ve sat Luck for at least a couple years, but after the year Newton and Dalton had, it would be hard to justify sitting a rookie QB. Ten years ago this wouldn’t have been an issue. Rookie QB’s were expected to sit and wait, but now it’s a different story. I will cheer on the Colts, Vikings and whoever Manning joins next year. Maybe Manning will come back as an offensive cordinator one day.
