Oden the Bust pick…Durant is better

im not saying he is a bust or not, but he has only played one year of nba basketball

i think for a number 1 pick he may be not be the greatest, but brandon roy, lamarcus aldridge, travis outlaw, and rudy fernandez do most of the scoring. not to mention they have jerryd bayless developing on their bench and he is a scorer. Batum is a solid one on one defender and he is only going to get better because he is very young. Durant would be a weaker defender than batum and he would take shots away from roy and aldridge. with greg oden they have a great defensive presence when healthy. If he gives 10-12 points, 11-12 rebounds, and 3 blocks per game they are a championship caliber team in a year a two. They have so much offense. Batum, Pryzbilla, and Oden are going to be the glue guys for this team. So if they contend for championships, is Greg Oden a bust? I don’t think so. Durant is great, but I would rather have Roy as the number 1 option. He is a leader and will be for years.

But dont forget…you need a Pippen and Jordan. You have 1 piece…not the other. If I was Portland…i would have bin more happy having Durant, Roy and Aldridge ( who could be you MJ,PIPP AND RODMAN) then Oden, Roy and Aldridge.

For Portland to be a Championship team. Oden would have to have 15ppg, 10-15rpg and 3bpg. Noone is scared of him on O, I dont think he can match up well with Bynum, Boozer,Chandler,West, Yao, Duncan, Dirk and others.

aldridge will never be a rodman, he is too soft. oden has a little nastiness to him. not like rodman but more than aldridge. and you dont need a jordan and pippen. detroit didn’t have one. this team is stacked with talent on the offensive end. if roy or bayless drive the lane a double will come, who is coming, either aldridge’s man or oden’s. either way aldridge gets a dunk or oden gets a dunk. they don’t need offense from oden outside of dunks, layups or free throws. especially if he gets his free throws to even 70%. he is still just 21 and only played one almost whole season of professional ball. not to mention he still can develop into a decent scorer(if they need that).

im not saying hes a rodman…Aldridge could be your inside scorer. If they would have picked Durant-they would had have a pippen ( a long player, who could guard multiple positions and score 25-30 any given night) and Roy would be your Jordan. By taking Oden…you never had that chance becasue everyone thought he was the 2nd coming of Bill RUssell

your right….the pistons didnt have a pippen-jordan combo. Your right. But they have a Jordan type (Hamilton and Billups any night could give you a solid 20) and a Pippen (Prince is a long player who can guard the 2,3 or 4 spot)

to call him a bust yet.He has only played 1 year as a backup. His numbers aren’t exactly eye popping but give him starters minutes (35mpg) and he would have averaged about 13ppg and 10 rpg. Not bad for a rookie. Oden has that dreaded word following him, potential. We will see.

im not saying hes a bust but you couldnt give him starters min because he is foul prone..he cant stay on the floor long enough to get those min..also if he just rebounds and blks but doesnt score much ill consider him a bust because you can get tyson chandler or chrisanderson if you want that..if thats all hes gonna be then i would rather have durant for the long haul..and yea the pistons didnt have a jordan and they still one a title but if they would have passed on darko and got carmelo instead im guessing they would have more titles and wouldnt be rebuilding right now

anyone who knws basketball knows you cant judge big men till later because it takes most of them awhile to reach there potential..case in point j oneal andrew bynum you cant call someone a bust after there first year inwhich they are comming back from a injury

I do hate to say it. I had many favorite players and some of them were so great but they got hurt. It doesnt matter, we can call them overrated or underrated in the end : its your opinion.

2nd of all- Grow up. Your acting like a dumb fan. What if Houston wins game 7? And they make past Denver to the Finals? You think noone on ESPN or any sports writers wont call him Overrated? Please get with the time man.

You know it’s hard to miss an entire year due to injury, especially your “rookie” year. That really set him back it could take another 1-2 seasons for him to really get back into his true rythem. I don’t expect him to be a bust, he’ll eventually be a starter whether it’s with Portland or not. Also another recent #1 pick at center is Bogut, Bogut isn’t a bust and he’s really not that much more impressive than Oden. Oden will never be an All-Star, but he will be a solid player for the rest of his career.

On another note, being from Oklahoma, I can’t say I’m not happy we got Durant instead. 😉

Oden was absolutely the wrong pick. I mean Kevin Durant is a freak of nature, when he gets some muscle, oh man. He’s got the length of Lamar Odom, but he is actually a legitimately, unguardable threat. I think Oden will be decent but, there’s no way you can justify taking him over Kevin Durant.

Like I said in the Darko Vs. Olowokandi thread, a guy becomes a bust based on how many better players get drafted after him.

That being said, I would actually like to take this time out to say I feel that Sean May and Adam Morrison were both bust picks too. They don’t get talked about because of the fact that they both went to an expansion team.

Still to early to comment on this. We don’t know yet. He could be the force that holds down the paint when the Trail Blazers when three in row. Sure it may not happen, but we don’t know yet. As much as I love Durrant, I don’t know if Portland really needs him. Sure he would be great there too, but his stats this year would’ve been nowhere near the same. Not to mention, winning in Portland falls on BRoys shoulders.

But right now…its kind of easy to tell.
