Do you guys think this will be a busy trade deadline? What kind of trades would you hope for and think might happen? Also, Is their any chance a team could take Charlie V, Tayshaun or Gordon off the Pistons hands?

I don’t know who would take Charlie V and BG, they’re contracts are rediculous and their production is minimal. There’s always so much hype around this year when it comes to trades and sometimes you get a Melo to NY and Dwill to NJ and sometimes you get snoozer like Bonzi Wells for Jason Hart or something (Not saying that trade actually happend.)

They just resigned him… I don’t even think they can trade him right now. Honestly, the pistons are not ready to make a big, splashy move yet… They dont even have an allstar on their team…next year or the year after. If you want to make a move right now to clear up cap space you are going to have to give something up (young talent, picks) that is dispropotional to what they can get with cap space this year.

That said, earlier in the year I thought they might be able to trade Ben Gordon (LA could have swung it with the trade exception plus one of their pgs), but it doesn’t look like they want to pay the tax on beasley so we can forget about them agreeing to pay it for gordon (I am sure that makes Kobe and Lamar feel great that the trade was just to save money). Honestly, Gordon is not playing as poorly as people think… his numbers are compareable to his career numbers and asside from knight he is their only outside shooting threat. The big problem is that he is getting less mins (so he is obv doing something wrong). Gordon’s contract is ridiculous, both he and Villanueva have player options for the year after next which they will most likely pick up, so a team would have to be really interested in them to go for that. That might happen with gordon, but it will certainly not happen with villanueva. The pistons have a huge need at pf, yet villanueva has never been able to play more than 25 mins for them since joining. He is coming off a wierd ankle injury and will not be ready to play at his best by the deadline. count on him to be amnistied or paid off in the offseason..

    Amnesty Charlie V

Tayshaun idea: Kwame Brown for Tayshaun and the houstons 2nd round pick

GSW: brings them defense and Wright can be a scoring punch off a bench plus Rush’s contract is expiring. Brings more playing time for Tyler

    Curry – Ellis – Prince – Lee – Biedrins

    Robinson – Thompson – Wright – Udoh – Tyler

Detroit: salary dump and its Kwame Brown, who wouldnt want him.

BG idea: BG and and a future 2nd round pick for Beasley and Tolliver

Minny: Dumps Beasley for a shooting guard which they need. BG needs a change of scenary and would fit good next to Rubio. He can either come off the in a 6 man role or start and bring that veteran presence. Also gets more playing time for Williams

    Rubio – BG – Johnson – Love – Pekovic

    Barea – Ridnour – Webster – Williams – Darko

Pistons new line up: Kwame is injured

    Knight – Stuckey – Beasley – Jerebko – Monroe

    Bynum – Russel – Daye – Maxiell – Wallace / Tolliver

Detroit: This is all a salary dump. All these contracts are expiring so they can let everyone walk if they want.

    Other BG trade idea:

    Atl recieves: Mo Williams

    Det recieves: Hinrich

    Lac recieves: BG

Atlanta: scoring pop off the bench and can push Teague

    Teague – Johnson – Williams – Smith – Zaza

    Williams – Green – Mcgrady – Johnson – Collins

    Detroit: All about expiring deal

    Knight – Stuckey – Prince – Jerebko – Monroe

    Bynum – Russel – Daye – Maxiell – Wallace

Lob City: get a scorer and a natural shooting guard

    Paul – BG – Butler – Griffin – Jordan

    Bledsoe – Foye – Gomes – Evans – Martin

…is pretty creative, I dont think that Minny would do it because Tolliver actually plays mins for them…But I bet they do it for a protected 1st (or maybe you take barea or on of their other guards)! Prince deal is totally crazy enough to work…(personally, I wouldn’t trade prince… there needs to be at least one veteran) So what would you do with the around $17-20m in cap space this year (they are currently $8m in the red and I am guessing that the cap could go up by as much as $2m next year plus they will still have to sign their rookie and I have no clue about their extensions) ?

I know in division trades dont happen much but

    Jamison for BG and Prince

    Sessions for Davis

CLE: young competition up front, a shooter next to Irving and veteran leadership for this young team

    Irving – BG – Prince – Thompson – Varejao

    Gibson – Parker – Eyenga – Davis – Hollins

    DET: Salary dump

    Knight – Stuckey – Daye – Jamison – Monroe

    Bynum – Russel – Jerebko – Maxiell – Wallace

TOR: Let Bayless walk and start to think of next year

    Calderon – Derozen – Kleiza – A. Johnson – Bargnani

    Sessions – Barbosa – Butler – J. Johnson – Magloire

According to espn, Tolliver has fallen out of the rotation. Im not a T-Wolves fan so I couldnt tell you if this is true. I based it off of that

I actually like all of these trades great input guys.

The reason we would trade Tayshaun is he really isnt working for our team right now hes a big contract and we should trade him now while he has value. I feel like a contending team would want a player like Tayshaun on their roster who is a smart player with tons of playoff experience.

If we could trade Ben Gordon for Michael Beasely i would be really happy. Im not much of a fan of michael beasely but he has got a ton of talent. Also we get significantly younger and we address a big need and thats a scorer. He can also play some stretch 4 which could give more room for greg to operate.

The antawn one doesnt seem bad.

I would like the Kirk Hinrich one but we already have a log jam at point with Knight Bynum Stuckey and Russell. Maybe we could put Marvin Williams in place of Hinrich. I heard Atlanta was looking to move him for a point guard.

I think we can get more than Kwame in return for Tayshaun but i could be wrong.

Tayshaun for Matt Barnes, 2 2nd rounders and a trade exception.

Lakers want to save money, with this trade they can amnesty Walton

you are correct and honestly we aren’t the deciders so it doesn’t matter …what I want to know is what would you do with the cap space? there is no reason to make these trades if you do not have a plan for the cap space… say you end up w/ around $20m…  who do you go after? U have knight , Stuckey, Daye, Monroe, Jerebko, Bynum and Maxiell, plus your draft pick which is prob top 6 since you have tanked. .. what’s the move?

    With out trades

    Knight – Stuckey – MKG (6th overall) – Jerebko – Monroe

    Bynum – BG – Prince – Charlie V – Withey (2nd round)

    2012 draft:

6th overall: MKG, good fit, high energy good defense

36th overall: Jeff Withey, Cole Aldrich 2.0 needs time to develop offense, but his defense off the bench would be good

    2013 draft:

6th overall: James Mcadoo, would be a good fit next to Monroe

36 overall: Isaiah Canaan, would be a great back up point guard

    Knight – Stuckey – MKG – Mcadoo – Monroe

    Canaan – Gordon – Prince – Jerebko – Withey

What would i do with all that cap?

take on other teams horrible contracts to get draft picks

You can’t just leave cap room lying around… the reason why these "trade BG, Prince, Villanueva" posts keep happening  is because Piston fans are excited about their team and want to make some moves in free agency (or maybe they are trying to see if people think they can get multiple 1sts)… If you do not want to take on anyone in free agency, you might as well just keep those players, but If you are trading them away… then you have to take on new contracts because you do not have a full team…you cant wait around to extort draft picks from teams with bad contracts…you don’t have to use it all up but there are roster and salary cap reqs.

I am assuming that you avoided answering my question because you either; 1. didn’t get it (my bad); 2. didn’t want to answer(I won’t neg you bro); or 3; didn’t think that the pistons could improve themselves significantly through free agency… Personally, I was trying to lead you to the third answer.

I think the pistons have some good young pieces, but they should try to bring them along slowly. This means eating more of their bad contracts and continueing to draft well. Knight is not a pg yet, and Monroe just broke out this year and is still getting better physically. This year, You will prob get a high draft pick, who will most likley need time to develop. Barring injuries, and everyone improving as they are now… the pistons will prob be at the end of the lottery next year which means another decent pick (maybe 7-8 seed). After that year, Villanueva and Gordon will be off the books, Monroe will start to get into his prime, and Knight, and whomever they pick this year will settleing into their own. That is the perfect storm to add a few veteran role players and turn a ~ 35-45 win team into a dynasty. Two years of being patient and its all there for the taking.

4 team trade: boston, dallas, portland, and utah

Boston gets: Josh howard (utah), Al Jefferson (Utah), Raymond Felton (portland)

Utah gets: Rondo (Boston), Shawn marion (dallas) Dallas

Dallas gets: J. O’neal (Boston), C.J Miles (Utah), Chris Willcox (Boston)

Portland gets: Devin Harris (Utah) Dallas’s first round draft pick

For boston: they get an legitimate low post threat in big al, a solid pg who needs a new home in felton, and some scoring off the bench in josh howard (to give pierce some rest). They can make one last run at finals while getting a young piece in al jefferson who they can build around and raymond felton who’s nice but also is a restricted FA after this season.

For Utah: you get rondo, an all star point guard and free up space for kanter and favors to start getting more minutes. I think utah should go full rebuild mode with their young talents in favors/burks/kanter and of course rondo. Shawn marion’s contract is $@%!$@%! but worth it since they now need a sf and he can be the veteran on the team.

Portland: pretty much a pg swap. Harris fits their system nicely and could be an upgrade over felton. they also get another draft pick

Dallas: get rid of shawn marion’s contract, get some size in O’neal and a pretty good sf in CJ Miles. They can keep their title dreams going but also create space for FA signing in off season (amnesty haywood)

    ALSO

    Boston also trades with memphis:

Ray Allen for OJ Mayo, draft pick, and Josh Selby

Ray Allen can really give memphis a boost, especially in the playoffs with randolph and gasol down low.

The Pistons used their amnesty on Rip Hamilton so cannot use it on Charlie V for example. Teams would like Ben Gordon as a scorer but not at his current level so if Joe Dumars would want to move him or Charlie V he’d have to get creative.

Washington are sat on that big Rashard Lewis contract and his final year equates roughly to what Ben would make over the next two seasons and Washington would probably welcome a scorer like Gordon if Nick Young moves on. Also Washington have a logjam of bigs who Detroit could use one. Detroit take on Lewis’s deal but it expires a year earlier giving them flexability in 2013 or they just buy him out, but to make the trade work would be hard given the size f Lewis’s contract.
