cuseflynn10ParticipantAndre Drummond got a majority of his points off of alley oops, and cherry picking. Nobody likes the local YMCA cheerypicker, and I’m sure no one likes to see NCAA players cherry pick. But he did get a few tip ins. Other than that he didn’t get the ball down low to use any post moves.
At the end of the day a basket is a basket, and it’s hard to nit pick about 17-14-3. I need to see him use more post moves. You can’t get by with all alley oops.

So raspyParticipantHe was way more active tonight then I’ve ever seen him. He’s still so raw, imo he put up those numbers just playin hard.

kngojcParticipantThen what about Anthony Davis? He plays hard the whole time but he can play a lot better. Drummond is too raw to go pro right now. He needs to stay at UCONN for at least another year to get more coaching before he comes out into the draft. I would hate to see him be like Hasheem Thabeet…

Shanetaylor95Participantthere is no way he will be as bad as thabeet

OhCanada-ParticipantDrummond will not be coming out Im certain of that. Something else I am certain of is that if Drummond was playing in the SEC right now with Kentucky he would be dominating. Calhoun is a cut and dry coach who will tell you how it is and stay consistantly tough on his players. Calipar reinforces his players actions when they are positive and points out and hides their weakness.
In other words Calhoun will not be hiding Drummonds weakness, but instead let him make the same mistakes resulting in less time until he changes and improves on his weakness. We have seen many times Calipari would never let Cousins take perimeter jumpers and was give a basic role while at UK. Now in the league Cousins has a free range taking bad shots, whining worse then ever, yet still a super skilled C.

mikeyvthedonParticipantHow are you certain he is not coming out? I mean, he said he was coming back and all, but if they are sanctioned from the post-season tournaments, I think he is between a rock and a hard place. It would mean Andre’s season would end as soon as Big East regular season play is over. I guess he still gets another year and all, but not having a shot at the Big East tournament or NCAA/NIT would definitely be a buzz kill. Truly think that Drummond probably leans towards the draft if UConn’s appeal is denied and they are banned from the 2013 post-season.

So raspyParticipantI agree with you on how raw he is, but I don’t think he’ll end up like Thabeet regardless of what he chooses to do. He can dominate the paint right now without any real polish to his game. He’d benefit from another year, but it’s not going to shock anyone if he leaves. MikeyV has it right with the sanctions, and Calhouns health is going to be a factor moving forward at UCONN. I feel either way its only a matter of time before he has this kind of night on a consistent basis. And as far as right now, I don’t see how anyone could make an argument for Drummond over Davis. Maybe when you start talking long term potential and what not, but Davis is by far the better player.

Bmore_DCParticipanthow can you get 14 rebounds while cherry-picking? (and this coming from a cuse fan)

Mr. 19134ParticipantAndre Drummond was cherry picking ….WTF? He got mostly all his points and rebounds in the 2nd half while dominating the offensive glass. Drummond had a few tip in’s that he didn’t make, but it was obvious in their second matchup that Drummond was physically superior to Fab Melo and eveybody else on Syracuse. When Drummond decided he was going to hit the offensive glass nobody could containt him.
He is still really raw but he’s not even being helped with that at UCONN. That team doesn’t have any chemistry and play selfish basketball.
Drummond said he was coming back before he knew they would be banned from the postseason. I doubt he stays now it’d be dumb.

OhCanada-ParticipantI defenitely have no concrete facts leaning towards the approval of my opinion, other then the fact that he said that he will not be coming out which should be taken with a grain of salt anyways. I just really dont think Drummond is in a big rush to become rich, this is his craft and why be rich when you can be wealthy. Look at this as a buisness move. Drummond can take the league by storm and dominate with the tools he will learn by playing in the Big East another year. Sure a max contract is a max contract, but look at Roses sneaker deal. Only the best get extra contracts like that.
I truely believe Drummond knows he is not ready, I also believe he knows what his potential is and what he needs to due to maximize his talent and reach his potential. He is aware of what happened last draft Im sure of it, NBA ready players like Barnes, and Sullinger who were likely going to be Top 5 picks if not number 2 and 3 stayed back to master their craft. Those players werent nearly as raw a Drummond is now.
The kid has alot to learn and as much as I truely want to believe Drummond, MKG, Beal, Rivers, Harkless, Teague, Miller, Wroten and Davis will all enter the draft I doubt more then 50% of them will.

kngojcParticipantIt was a whole different thing last year because if you entered the draft last year, your future was still unsure because of the lockout. Now that it is cleared up, those guys are going to jump back into the draft. It’d be beneficial for him to stay an extra year to get more skilled offensively because with Lamb gone for the draft, I think he will be a bigger option to score on offense therefore putting more pressure on him to get better.

Mr. 19134ParticipantYeah OHCanada I agree with what you’re saying. Not everybody NEEDS to stay in school tho most player do. Drummond obviously needs to stay in school. Quincy Miller needs to stay. MKG could come out but if he stays he’d be that much better for it. I don’t believe Anthony Davis needs to stay. I don’t belive Wroten or Rivers really need to stay either tho Rivers should. Wroten needs to come out because Gaddy will still be running PG next year and if he’s not going back to run the point then he has no reason to go back.
I wouldn’t be shocked to see Perry Jones stay for his JR year either. From everything I read he’s a good humble kid whose in no rush to enter the league. I’ve heard PJ3 want’s to live up to his potential and become an impact player from the moment he enters the league. Quincy Miller I’m almost certain he’ll say he been saying that this his JR year of high school.

Meditated StatesParticipantHe is top ten no matter what. Never risk injury. College a 2nd season is a waste. Guard oriented. Come out get top notch training by pros. Its foolishness come out.
0 - Posted on: Sun, 02/26/2012 - 7:04pm #641716
TheLastWordParticipantHe is coming out, UConn was banned from the tournament next year due to low academic performance. He has nothing to gain and everything to lose by staying another year.

Bmore_DCParticipantnot coming out in the draft early has actually hurt a lot of people…
look at Sullinger and PJ3’s stock dropping…they wouldve been top 5 picks last year
