TRC1991ParticipantI taped the game, went to the gym, and came back and sat and analyzed the game… here are my comments
1) paul george is beastly. at least 6’10” with good handles, developing offensive skills, and a body that means business on defense.
2) norris cole, and i re-watched to count, passed the ball just 1 time tonight. lol… dude was not at all shy
3) shaq’s team wasn’t very good, they actually had to work somewhat to get buckets, far more-so than chuck’s team
4) john wall is an insane athlete, the best athlete on the court for the majority of that game, his behind the back dunk at the end was awesomew
5) i hadn’t really watched greg monroe a lot this year, but his body is definitely bigger, less defined, and he moves a lot slower than when he was playing at GU… he’s quite slow-footed and i believe the chances of him ever becoming a PF have gone out the window
6) …That being said, a rangy, athletic, shot-blocking PF would be sweet next to monroe, perry jones anyone?
7) Marshon Brooks is filthy, didn’t get as much time as i would have liked but he’s very skillled and he seems like the type of guy that could go for 25 a night if he tried to get his own shot as much as other young 2 guards like nick young and marcus thornton
8) i agree with mikey that kenny smith should not have been commentating on the game, his voice is rather irritating and he didn’t have a single clever comment to make the entire game, i feel someone like bill simmons would have been cool to hear do the game
9) kyrie irving is outstanding, i slept on him way too much and after watching him play the way he did tonight, i cant help but imagine how good he will be in a few years
10) landry fields: for having mediocre handles, an undefined body, and poor quickness, he is deceptively athletic and he would fit in very well as the 5th option on a championship team
11) gordon hayward looks good, liked what i saw from him
12) derrick favors didn’t stand out and disappeared a lot- same with derrick williams
13) DMC came out real hot but sort of cooled down at the end, in this type of game i knew he would get buckets because nobody plays D in the post
14) 1 thing that bugged me was the amount of times they kept talking to the assistant coaches throughout the game, i was like dear god not 1 human being watching gives a flying f*** what ron adams is saying mid-way through the 3rd quarter, get back to the game.
15) tomorrow’s all-star game should be epic.
16) jeremy lin looked flat out exhausted tonight
17) rubio’s not a 3 point shooter but he kept firing -i liked his confidence
18) evan turner would be an all-star if given the minutes. that guy is f*cking good.

Mr. 19134ParticipantTotally agree with pretty much everything you said, and if Cousins would of converted two of them great Turner passes, or Hayward, Brooks, or George could of finished them dunks Turner would of had a triple double. His versatile was on full display too bad he has to go back to Philly and let Doug Collins waste him away on the bench…SMH….I will probably get negged for this comment but if I said someting wrong please tell.
Also hate that Brooks move when Turner fed him and wide open 8 foot shot and instead he ran to the 3 point line and then shot it…The single dumbest play I may have saw all season.
And yes that Wall dunk was incredible. But I loved when Monroe stole the ball off Wall just cause everybody in the building was like you gotta be kidding me.
And I dunno what happened to Derrick Favors, he use to be a monster in these types of setting throughout his high school career throwing down monstrous dunks. But he just don’t have "it" anymore. Maybe his added weight has affected him like it has Monroe who is a perfect C I think it’s so dumb when people say he should play PF when he is clearly on his way to being one of the best centers in the league.
And the thing about Fields is he actually has pretty good straight line speed, and is rumored to have a 38" vert. I think the Knicks hid him from the combine, much like how they hid Wilson Chandler that one year.
And I told everybody from the beginning that Blake has no bussiness playing in this game when he’s starting for the big boy squad and that it would be a waste cuz he’s only going to play 10 minutes and people said no last year he only played lil minutes cuz he was resting for the dunk contest. But Blakes still a blast to watch and I kinda wanted that lob to go off the backboard out of bounds or not that would of been epic.
And I been getting negged all night so…

surveParticipantI know it was just an exhibition but just looking at DMC…..this guy has an uncanny knack for the offensive board. I mean I know he is not considered a great athlete, but he is so quick off his feet and has a nose for the ball. There is a science to rebounding. Love has his own science….a blend of positioning and anticipation. Griffin has his science, pretty much brute strength and athleticism. Cousins has his own science…but he seems to be more natural with his rebounding skill than either Love or Griffin. Like I said, its something you may not be able to put your finger on.
With that being said, again I know this was an exhibition game, but I truly believe that if he does the right things and works hard, in a couple of years the best PF in the game wont be Love or Griffin, it will be Cousins.

surveParticipantThis was the most skilled group I remember seeing in a while. I mean really refined skills for young guys.
Irving, Rubio, Cousins, Monroe, Cole, Brooks, Turner, Lin, Fields, Morris, Haywood etc….all those guys are greatly skilled.
Then you have Wall, Griffin, George, Favors, etc….ELITE athletes who have a good amount of skill as well and will be scary as they continue to improve.
I definitely think Detroit is finally heading back in the right direction with Knight and Monroe….the are impressive young pair.
I am a HUGE Kemba Walker fan, I think once he gets experience, he will be a Monta Ellis type guy….a guy who is not a true PG but can get you a lot of points and assists.
Brooks just looks like Baby Kobe to me, lol….if he works hard and aims for being a great defender like Kobe, he will be an All-Star before you know it.

DanEboyParticipantHayward looked very impressive, blocking shots, running the floor, dunking, etc. Aside from Irving, he was the most impressive all around in my opinion.

Wavy BagelsParticipantI don’t think his chances becoming PF are out the window. What he lacks in speed and athleticism, he most definitely makes up for post game and solid rebounding. He needs a lanky F/C to compliment his game. If Detroit had the number one pick, Anthony Davis would greatly compliment.

Chilbert arenasParticipantTHANK YOU! I said the same thing about Monroe being slow of foot and nailed to the floor and I got killed for it a few days ago. He’s an exceptionally skilled big man but is below average athlete for the league. He’s 6’11 and was laying the ball in at times. I like him as a player and think a lengthy athlete next to him would work nicely.

butidonthavemoneyGreg Monroe deserved defensive player of the game for that last-minute steal.
Really don’t think you can make a proper analysis on any of the players in this setting though. It would be silly to draw any conclusions based on what we saw last night.

aamir543ParticipantIt was more of a dunk contest toward the end, and I agree with No Money, it was all offense, no D, not the best place to evaluate young guys, but still a great showing by all the young guys nonetheless.

Chilbert arenasParticipantThese players raw athletic ability is on display, and Monroe and Favors seem to be below average in that reguard.
0 - Posted on: Sat, 02/25/2012 - 10:26am #641225

butidonthavemoneyI really don’t know what to say to somebody that thinks Derrick Favors is a below-average athlete.

boffacheeriosParticipantFavors a below average athlete? What a joke
0 - Posted on: Sat, 02/25/2012 - 11:39am #641258

Chilbert arenasParticipantBelow average might have been poor choice of words, Wiz got it right, overrated is what I mean
0 - Posted on: Sat, 02/25/2012 - 11:39am #641255

WizardofOzParticipantDerrick Favors athleticism is vastly overrated. I’ve seen many people call him a freak athlete, but he’s far from it. If you think so, then you’re easily impressed or have a different frame of reference.
I think his athleticism is comparable to Okafor’s. He still looks like a 2 step gatherer without explosive straight line or lateral quickness. Young Amar’e, Blake, Ibaka, Dwight, Kemp, Dyess, Tyrus Thomas, etc. Those guys were freaks. Favors is not. He moves more like okafor, Horford or Antonio Davis. IMO, his athleticism has looked less and less spectacular as he’s put on weight, which is usually the case. People were comparing him to Josh Smith when he was a prep weighing 220, but he’s turned into more of a big, long less explosive and fluid athlete as he’s put on weight.
That’s what makes a guy like Dwight so freaky. He too was once a 220 lb prep, but he retained almost all of his athleticism as he put on weight.

Mr. 19134ParticipantDerrick Favors is not what people thought he would be. It looks like he get’s high but that’s because his arms are so long it’s deceiving peoples.
People thought Favors was going to be an Amare type of PF and he’s actually turned into more of a Tim Duncan type who just fluid, except he has nowhere near the fundamentals Timmy has.

FastAndFuriousParticipantGreg Monroe is a sucka
That is all
