nick5354ParticipantOne player that I haven’t been able to get a soild read on is Arnett Moultrie. I couldn’t help but check out Chad Fords big board but to find him sitting #19. On this site he is ranked #6. Then Bleacher Report have him around 11-12. He is all over the place in mock drafts.
Can anyone fill me in about him and his game and where do you think he will land in the draft?

ilike.panochasParticipantI personally think he’s a bit overrated. Hes raw offensively, and doesn’t dominate defensively considering his length and athleticism. He has tools, no doubt about it, but Im weary of taking him in the lottery. His game is similar to Taj Gibson, although Moultrie is slightly taller.

nick5354ParticipantIs there any film/tape of him anywhere? All I can go by is statistics and others opinions which I HATE.

The Scare Crow ReturnsParticipantonly because they are so low profile you have no idea on how to scout them, then they never have a lot of tape and the level of competition isn’t a very good example of what they can really do…

tuck243Participanthe’s just like every 6-9 to 6-11 player that come out every year in the draft… If he doesn’t have the motor, I wouldn’t waste my draft pick on him… It’s too many guys in the league that you can get to do the same thing as him… Hell the NBDL… Thomas Robinson is a safer pick… At least you know at worst he will be a role player… This guy??? IMO, won’t get major minutes within a few years…

DolanCareParticipantMoultrie probably isn’t worth a 6th round draft pick. But I think that someone with his size and motor can be a servicable sixth man for many years.

Future_Scoutnever knew they had a 6th round^. i think he has the potential to be more than a 6th man. he can def. start in the future. with that said, he’s not in my top 10

Mr. 19134Participant@Tuck, no offense man but I’m tired of hearing you say there are so many players who can do the same thing he does when in reality every player is different and bring different things to the table. The other other day you were knocking hustle players without skill and now you’re knocking a skilled player saying he has no motor.
Did you think Tristan Thompson was worth the 4th pick? Because he’s a motor guy, who has an underrated level of skill with tremendous upside who will reach whatever his upside is cuz he won’t stop working until he does.
But I’ve watched Moultrie in glimpses this year and came away impressed with his size, skill level, and athleticism. The only game I got to watch a whole game of his was against Kentucky and he didn’t have a great game, but he played Davis about as tough as I’ve saw anybody play against him. He was certainly not outmatched by Davis’ length or athleticism which is saying a lot.
But from what I’ve read on Moultrie he went to UTEP as an extra long and athletic wing player who had the speed and agility to guard the wing but didn’t really have a great perimeter skill set. He got better each year tho.
Now finally at Miss. St. due to his height, and he’s a legit 6’11, he finally made the full time transition to the post and has flourished displaying an impressive inside/out game. He can do a lot of things. He got so post skills, and he’s very effective as a face up post player because he’s so quick he easily beats big men off the dribble to the rim.
I disagree that he doesn’t have a motor. He has a fine motor but he does occassionally drift throughout games. Players don’t average as many rebounds as he does without atleast a half decent motor. And he’s competitve as evidenced by Miss St. being ranked this year is mainly because of his play. Occasionly he showns some nastines when throwing down offensive put backs, but will often try to be too finesse when going up for a bucket.
Aran has said some scouts are saying he reminds them of Jermaine O’Neal. He’s not the defender O’neal was or shot blocker. Other’s have compared his to Chris Bosh which is more accurate although he certainly does not that have of a ceiling. Jason Thompson is a fair comparison but I think he has more upside then Thompson.
He is all over the draft boards. DX has him going like 26. I think after the combine and workouts he will move up into the lottery however tho. He could be a very good starter in the league, but he also has big time bust potential. He’s a high risk/high reward prospect.
