Is it crazy to think, that with the athletes Syracuse has, they would be completely dominant in a man to man? Yes i know i’m a homer, but i respect the opinions of you amateur analyst.

They plan man early in the season, but thats when they are playing cupcakes.

    Elite Defender:

    Fab Melo

    CJ Fair

    Dion Waiters

    Really Good Defenders:

    Baye Keita

    Kris Joseph

    James Sutherland

    Brandon Triche

    The Others:

Rakeem Christmas (doesnt play much, but i’m assuming his inexperience would disqualify him from a bettter classification, but potentially an elite level defender)

    Scoop Jardine

    MCW ( Same as Christmas)

If they were playing man-to-man all year, they’d probably be 28-0 instead of 27-1.

I do think we would have had a better shot against Notre Dame in a man to man, because they were jacking up half court shots and draining them all game. I do think they would be above average in the Big East in man to man defense, with Melo, Waiters, Triche, and Fair being key defensive players. Even Joseph has pretty good defense.  Keita and Christmas though are not elite defenders, especially when playing the Center position. They get abused down low all game long. Christmas is solid at the wing though.

The team is definitely better suited for a zone. a 7’0 shot blocker in the middle. Fair grabs a lot of boards and adds a few blocks each game. Joseph, Christmas, Southerland, Keita, and Fair are all 6’8 to 6’10, so they provide good length. Triche is like 6’4 220, and Waiters has good size as well. Scoop is strong, but the smallest at 6’2. MCW is 6’5, but needs to bulk up more.

This team would be good in a man to man defense, and I honestly think Boeheim should go man against hot three point shooting teams, but their definitely built to play in the zone.
