Cardinal_FanParticipantI actually think he could develope in2 a solid rotation player, the guy has potential and imma a firm believer in consistent playing time developes players. Now we havent seen much of Withey in past years due 2 the depth of talented bigs Kansas has had. But Withey has a definate impact with his defense and rebounding and raw offensive potential. The guy is not terrible, he is a legit 7 footer who is mobile and a pretty decent athlete. Im not sayimg he will be a standout player, but a spot starter/rotation guy is definately not out of the question imo.

RUDEBOY_ParticipantWhithey has come a long way in the developement of his game and he still has a long way to go,before he’s a finished product..Right now he’s really raw offensively..And commits alot of silly fouls…
If he was at lets say Boise State, nobody will be talking about rather or not he should go pro..
He’s a good athlete for his size, but needs to get stronger..
But Kansas has a history of turning big men who are projects into nba players……..

Da1potParticipantI really think he can ball, and that he is one of the more underrated prospects this year. If he enters, yeah he will likely go in the 2nd round, but it should be a no-brainer for him to stay so that he can be a first round pick(possibly even in the lotto) next year. He puts up very good stats for someone who only averages 24 mpg by averaging 9.5 and 6.6. He also shoots 83% this year from the free throw line on nearly four attempts, which is about as good as it gets for a center prospect. He is also a legit shotblocker averaging 3.4 per game (!) as well. He in my eyes will be a much better NBA player then say, Cole Aldrich and I also think he is a much better prospect as well. With Tyshawn Taylor and Thomas Robinson gone next year, Withey will be THE MAN on the team, and I expect him to put up great stats- and even be in the conversation for conference POY.

elliotmcadooParticipantBig man who can move floor rebounds great. Alters a bunch of shots and average around 4 blocks a game. He can hold his own in every area of the game. I think he can start one day for a NBA team he was a top prospect that needed coaching so he transfers to Kansas where theres been alot of recent success with the 4s and 5s they’ve had. Next year when Robinson and Taylor is gone hes going to have a big season. Even if he doesnt become a NBA starter he can come of the bench and be a great rotation player

NashyMingParticipantIf Aaron Gray can play in the NBA, I am pretty sure Jeff Whithey with good efforts can be a solid backup big man.

FritzParticipantWhitey I am a firm believer will be a first rounder if he goes out next year. He is one of the best shot blockers in the country this year. He averages 3.4 bpg in only 24 mpg. I expect once Robinson leaves and another offseason of bulking up he will be rebounding at a better rate.
He is playing amazing lately, recently put up 18 pts 20 reb and 7 blocks vs Oklahoma State followed by a 18 point 11 rebound and 9 block performance vs Kansas State. He will be asked to serve a big role for Kansas next year and possibly could be the number one option. He is a hard worker and is only going to get better. Dont be shocked if he goes 20-30 in next years draft. I dont see why he would be any worse of a prospect as Tyler Zeller is this season.

So were Hasheem Thabeet and Hassan Whiteside.

FritzParticipantIf shot blocking was the only reason I think he would go in the first round than you would have a point. Hasheem Thabeet and Hassan are soft. Withey isnt. Whithey isn’t very strong, but he has put on significant weight over the off season and Im sure he will once again. He will be one of the best big man in the country next year. That doesn’t mean I think he’s going to be one of the best big man prospects but I expect him to be the leader of kansas next year. I said the exact same thing last year when this site had Robinson in the late first round, and a year before that with both Morris twins. I was right on all of them. Withey may not live up to them but he will be the next significant big man for Kansas which will get him to the first round.

BothTeamsPlayedHardParticipantHe is a big body who four years into his college career is really only effective at being a big body. Sorry, that is not anything special. There are a lot of big bodies who aren’t anything special in pro basketball, but almost all of them were really good at sitting in the paint in college (or Europe) and block shots. Solomon Alabi gained weight too. Jerome Jordan looks more like an NBA center than most NBA centers. Kevin Seraphin is the same story. I can go on through half the league carrying centers that are really nothing more than big bodies who look like NBA players but can’t play like them. Maybe Jeff Withey gets picked, maybe a team gives him a contract, but that can be said of Festus Ezeli, Fab Melo, Miles Plumlee, and any number of other mediocre big bodies who might be getting passed off for prospects.

JNixonParticipantYeah, I do not think Withey is any better than alot of bigs who had an impact just being big players. Brian Zoubek, Hasheem Thabeet, Jerome Jordan, Hassan Whiteside all come to mind.
I don’t like his hands, touch or skill set. He can block shots and rebound, and he can run in a straight line, but he’s not all that strong, a bit stiff, and he’s not much of a factor doing anything where he has to show skills. I have a hard time seeing him having an impact in the NBA. He just seems to know how to utilize the fact that he’s tall now, thanks again to Danny Manning’s magic
