NihochuParticipantIm just curious if you guys think that rules such as defensive 3 seconds , extended 3 point line and some others are done for the benefit of basketball or for marketing ? So that people can get more dunks if people arn’t helping and they have more space if the 3 is further away .. ? Because the Nba is a buisness and a lot of athletic players that play in the nba didnt play as well where these rules were not allowed.. what do you think ?

mikeyvthedonParticipantThere would more than likely be fewer athletic plays if you were allowed to plant a big man in the zone, but people always manage to figure these things out. I just having a feeling it might hinder some at first, but they always manage to figure these things out and adapt. One thing I will say is, I truly believe that the 22 foot line is A LOT easier to shoot from than the 23’9.
They had 22 all around and percentages were generally higher than they are now. It may be for marketing, but most sports league want things to be best for their players to shine. Truthfully, I see little problem with it and the people that do are probably named European Baller. Honestly, all of these guys are fantastic players and I know that the best players tend to still get there’s in any setting. All I know is, watching Team USA play international basketball these past 2008 and 2010 give me a lot of confidence that these guys do amazing things whether they are in the more open NBA or the tighter International game.

aamir543ParticipantBack in 2004 they changed the pick and roll rules, which propelled the Amare and Nash duo. Up until then it was really hard to set a good pick, other wise they’d call a moving screen, and why Malone and Stockton were the Kings of the P and R, and still are.

ChewyParticipantpick and roll rules and more to do with the fact that almost noone in the NBA sets a legal "not moving at all" screen anymore.

llperezwhen the nba shortened the line in the 90’s, it didnt have a positive impact. The game requires spacing for post players and one on one iso’s and pick and rolls. But at the end of the day, the guys are skilled anough to adjust and excell regardless of these rules, it just wouldnt be quite as pretty.

Zeke313ParticipantDon’t forget the no "hand checking" and overall handicap of defensive players.
