I know this isn’t original. but all i have seen lately is draft redo’s and those arent really my thing. This one is always good, but If you can, Id like to keep it to 1 or 2 for each because one person says what he thinks bout everybody in the draft and then it no fun anymore.

My overated is James Johnson, I think he is a less accomplished Antione Walker clone. He is pretty skilled but Ive seen alot of him and I just dont see it in him to take it up a level.

My underrated, and I think he is at least a whole round underated on this mock, is Grievous Vasquez.
The kid has great size for the point, and even good size for the 2. so his combo guard status is more of a versatility than an undersized thing. He is unquestionably one of the 10 best pure basketball players in the draft. He isnt a great athlete and doesn’t play a ton of defense, but I think its because he had to do everything for his team this year and he had to save his energy. His passion to win is enourmous, and he is an unbelievably crafty and intelligient player, and I think he will find a way to be a reliable scorer and miscellanious contributor. I would take him over Jrue Holligay any day of the year.

he does have good size, but he isnt athletic enough to be a 2.
he is turnover prone but that probably is because he shoulders too much responsibility for maryland like you said…
i agree about him being a great competitor and a good distributor, but i think it would be wise for him to declare next year because there arent many PGs to compete with for draft position…
(though im not saying he will go in the first round for sure)

then again testing the waters isnt going to hurt him…

Overrated, i’m going to say blake griffin. How many 6’9 guys do you know that succeed in the NBA without a jumpshot? Underrated i’m going to say Hansbrough. People used to say he wouldnt make it cuz he couldnt shoot. well now he knocks down the 15 footers with ease. The knock on his athleticism is bogus. The guy runs the court better than some guards. just my opinions i k now u guys will start bit ching

I disagree with you about Griffin. My counter would be how many athletic, hard working, and absolutely ripped 6’9 sophmores have a jumpshot? His is above average for his position coming into the draft I think.
I couldnt possibly agree with you more about Tyler, Im a heelsfan too, dunno if you saw the other post. Im just sick of defending him, National Championship speaks for itself as far as im concerned and its the same argument over and over.

overrated- Wayne Ellington. He is undersized and has limited defensive skills. He reminds me of Shawn Respert (Michigan St.). Who’s that you say? My point exactly.

Underrated- Terrance Williams. He has the potential to become an exellent lock down defender. Athleticism is top notch and he is a great passer. I think he can develope a good jump shot within the next couple of years. Once he’s done that he’ll be a spitting image of Stephen Jackson.

p.s. Griffin has a better jump shot than Hansbrough. I think it is pretty obvious for someone who is not bias to the subject.

Hansbrough is not underrated. He is expected to be a scrapy ROLE PLAYER and that is what he will be. A ROLE PLAYER and that is it. If he did steroids his entire NBA career he might lead the league in rebounding for one year if he’s lucky.

I wouldn’t mind having him on my team as my eigth or ninth man, but acting like he should be drafted higher than late first round is just a bunch of popycock. Yeah I said it. POPYCOCK!

measured in 6’3.75 barefoot a year ago pre-draft. Not exactly undersized. I really feel like he can find a RIp Hamilton type Niche on a good team. Rip isn’t any taller or more athletic than him. What Ive observed thus far in the playoffs is that there is a lot to be said for a guy who makes all of his open looks. He is also in really good shape, his shooting picked up late in the season when other players legs died and so did their percentages. His off dribble game has really come along, and he is more than capable of getting himself enough space to get off his shot, which is the prettiest in the draft, including Stephen Curry. With Wayne, I see very little bust potential, I see him bieng a 12-16 ppg scorer. Hopefully he lands in the early twenties to a team with a good penetrator. Im really unsure of why he is bieng overlooked, I think athleticism is the most overrated quality in the draft. He isn’t even a bad athlete, he just isnt an explosive dunker. Bottom line, guys who can really shoot the ball stick around the league till they want to retire, but there is an endless list of those potential picks on the wings who couldnt get it done in the league.

James Johnson is not overrated, do more research on him before making this unintelligent assumption.
My teammate works hard, he is very skilled comparing other forwards in this draft.
He is athletic, strong, good size at 6’9,
and call him the next Jeff Green, or Al Harrington.

but nice try. My problem with him is he jacks up alot of threes, and isn’t particularly accurate with them. He has his moments, but they always just seemed like moments, and for a 22 year old one would expect alot more consistency than what I saw in his ACC play the last two years. You can impersonate a lottery pick, and you can disagree with me, but dont call me unintelligient. This entire site is filled with Unintelligient people, debating something that only the future can tell, at which point none of us will rememeber any of these forums. I saw him play several times and that was my opinion, it isn’t unintelligient its just different than your biased opinion.

Overrated – I have to choose Terrance Williams. I like him a lot to tell the truth, but I’m not sure if he will translate very well at the next level. He tends to rely a lot on three point shots, even though he has excellent atheticism. If he can put it together I think he can be great, but I’m not confident that he will. I also would look at Gerald Henderson. He is top shelf athlete but I think he isn’t going to measure well height-wise and he doesn’t have a deep offensive game. Although I think he should leave to capitilze on his stock, I see him as having bust potential.

Underrated – I think James Harden is actually underrated. He’s not exceptionally quick but he has a mature offensive game. He’s effective in the mid-range and is strong enough to finish with some contact. He knows how to score. I don’t know if he’ll be a superstar but he will be effective in the league. I also like Jrue Holiday. He didn’t realy get to put up numbers becaue of UCLA’s system and the fact that Collison was playing the point, but he’s got the ability to be a solid defender and has great height for the point guard position. His shot is also developing, I think he could be a dangerous player in the very near future. I think he’ll end up being better than Russel Westbrook.

I love the Shawn Respert shout out. However, Ellington is 6 foot 4; Respert was 6 foot 1/2! Ha ha ha, Michigan State. Boy could he score. Didn’t he go eighth in the 1995 draft. Man I’m good.

actully elling was mesured at 6’5 with shoes last year at the predraft camp so he has a good height for his position…i dont think hansborough is overrated because no one expects him to be anything more then a role player..terrence williams to me is more of a potential player i wouldnt really be suprised if he goes either way…..i think grevis vasquez is underrated..he does turn it over a tad much but thats mostly due to his team ..but when hes at his best he is easily one of the top pg in the nation( unc fans can atest to that) the thing is sometimes he can be inconsistant but i think at worst he will be a good back up or parttime starter..would fit very well in phx system

i think Steph Curry is overrated. i think he could do well in the perfect situation, but that wont happen on a lottery team. i dont think he’s 6’3. i dont think he can play the NBA point. and i think he is way too weak to guard anybody. yet i see him going in the top 10 in a lot of mocks. he seems like a late first round type to me.

i agree that Terrence Williams is underrated. i think he can be a very important piece on a quality NBA team due to his versatility and attitude. i think he’s capable of filling many roles.

Wow. I have been reading this forum for a very short while and already it is clear D Hamp is missing some pieces of his puzzle. We get it. You think Devendorf (or Devo as you affectionately call him… you know that band was full of gays, right? With Devendorf’s attitude, I don’t think he would appreciated the comparison) is an NBA caliber player and everyone else knows you’re off your rocker. Let it go already.

    Overrated – Everyone.
    Underrated – Everyone else.

Honestly, very few players go into the draft universally underrated or universally overrated. Hindsight is 20/20, but given all available information, I think NBA personnel do a pretty good job of projecting where these guys belong in a draft.
By the way, Blake Griffin is overrated the same way Kobe Bryant is overrated…he’s still really really good.

In response to Canesboy’s first post, the reason Vasquez is rated so low on everyone’s boards isn’t because he isn’t talented, but because he has a HUGE attitude problem. You know it’s saying something when the students at your own school don’t like you, and I’ve been to Maryland home games where Vasquez gets booed the entire time. He’s viewed as a cocky ball-hog with a me-first mentality. No one wants that on their team.

As for my picks for overrated and underrated:

Overrated: DeJuan Blair. I seriously don’t get why this guy’s viewed as a mid-first rounder. He’s 6’6″ and has a very one-dimensional game. I think a lot of people were fooled by his performance against Thabeet and came to the conclusion that he’ll be able to handle big men at the next level. I’ve said this in a previous post, but he’s got Tractor Traylor written all over him (not Glen Davis), and I feel bad for the team that wastes a first round pick on him.

Underrated: Darren Collison. I knew his stock has slipped a bit over the past few months with the number of point guards entering the draft, but I think he’s a mature and unselfish player that a bunch of teams towards the end of the first round could use. His stats aren’t eye-popping, but there’s a reason UCLA made a bunch of Final Fours over the past few years, and Collison’s a big reason why. I think he has the intangibles that some of the more athletic point guards lack this year.

Kobe has been compared to Jordan for the past 10 years. That, by itself, makes him overrated.
Kobe has all the physical talent in the world, and the competitiveness to match, but he is not as good of an all-around NBA player as D-Wade or Lebron, possibly even CP3. He has been arguably one of the top 5 players in the NBA for the past 8 or 9 years, but I don’t think he has ever definitively been the best, and is not one of the top 10 players of all-time, as many people like to argue.
His game has many more flaws than people tend to acknowledge.
That being said, he is a very very good player, and the Lakers will now probably win the championship as a result of this post.
So, my point was that while good players can be overrated, that doesn’t change the fact that they are very, very, very good.

Kobe=Jordan 2.0, Kobe is arguably the second best shooting guard in the history of basketball…. The reason why he is compared to Jordan is because he patterned his game off of Jordan. I think Kobes weakness is his stubborness and sometimes he has a yendencey to bury his teamates.
