EverybodyHatesChrisParticipantNow that J.R Smith is finished with his season in China he’s able to sign with a nba team. It looks like his top options are the Knicks, Lakers, Clippers, Bulls, Magic and Pacers. Which of these teams do you think would be the best fit for Smith?

Michael.S.ParticipantMagic would be the best fit, but I’m not sure he makes any of those teams better.

sheltwon3ParticipantKnicks could use that fire power off the bench. It would put them in as one fo the few teams with a legit chance to win a championship.

Mr. 19134ParticipantThe Knicks have enough fire power they need some defense.
And considering Chris Paul and JR. Smith are best friends and Paul was recently quoted as saying nobody knows JR better then me, combined with the fact he’s already great friends with former teammates Kenyon Martin and Chauncey Billups and add that to the fact all 3 of them play for the Clippers I would say they are easy front runners.

cuseflynn10ParticipantThe best team for Smith is the Bulls. They could give him the most SG minutes, and they also have the best record in the league. I don’t know how much money they will offer, but I think it’s a near perfect match.

omphalosParticipantClippers are the best fit, they desperately need a legit SG with Chauncey out, and J.R. would fill that role. He would have a strong leader in Paul to keep him in line, and they would be a legitimate threat for a ring with him in the fold in my opinion.

aamir543ParticipantIf the Knicks land him, this gives them some more backcourt depth, and with Lin playing great, the team that appeared to be paper thin as far as depth goes would be loaded in the backcourt, however I still feel a bit gimpy about having Jared Jeffries getting 20 minutes a game.

NickWayne87ParticipantHe is the piece that bulls are missing imo……Rip Hamiliton was just a band-aid to try and stop the bleeding he is the answer. Clippers would be a good fit but they already have 29043894 guards….he would be the best option at 2 guard if they signed him but they’d need to make some trades happen with the rest of those FOUR pgs they have to try to add depth at other positions……if the clips signed him and made a trade or two they’d be a real threat to take the title, they’re fringe contenders as it stands but if this happened theyd be SERIOUS. These two teams have to be the frontrunners for his services and both would be serious contenders with him.

SupParticipantNot a good look for the Knicks. They are a very delicate team, and Jr Smith is a a firecracker.
He needs to play in the Staples Center question is Lakers or Clippers. He is a better fit for the Clippers but the Lakers need him more. I personally would like to see him as a Clipper.

YurpleHazEParticipantOH WORD, Talk about signs of the times…who ever thought JR SMITH of all players would be this sought after….or is he?

Johnny ChillThat’s because it’s rare a player that averages 12 points a game and can easily get 20 on any given night is available at this time of the season.

db24kb24ParticipantJ.R. Smith, a free agent shooting guard who last played for the Denver Nuggets and has been in China since the lockout, tweeted that he had a "great talk" with Brown on Tuesday. Brown confirmed the phone conversation. Smith also is being pursued by the Los Angeles Clippers. USA TodayHe will have the GREENEST of green lights w/ our second unit. I know he hates KB, or at least it seemed that way in previous playoff duels, but we’ve got nothing but love….I can see him signing w/ the clips just to spite KB/lakers tho.

Mr. 19134Participant@NickWayne,
You say the Clippers already have over 29 million SG’s but I’m not sure you were looking at this years roster becaue they in fact don’t even have one real SG on their roster. Foye is a 6’4 combo guard and Mo Williams and Bledsoe are PG’s. Smith would become the first actual SG the Clippers have.
And after reading what Chris Paul said the other day it almost sounds like a done deal he’s going to the Clippers. Paul basically said I’m Smith’s closest friend in the league and he’ll listen to me. Also Billups called him after the injury and told him he was needed. So Smith knows he’s wanted by the players and will easily transition into a locker room filled with a few of his closest friends and former teammates.

PabloFiascoParticipantNone of em..The Timberwolves could really use him at SG
0 - Posted on: Thu, 02/16/2012 - 3:32am #637386

NihochuParticipantthere is no perfect fit … a lot of teams could use him but he isnt a missing peice for like 10 different teams

thparadoxParticipantClippers are the best fit.
– the clearest need at SG (knicks have landry fields, who fits the team needs quite well. jr plays the same position as kobe. bulls don’t have any money)
– former friends who are leaders and already know him. therefore they can influence him and keep him under relative control (Cp3, billups, k-mart)
– biggest role. he would be the 2nd option on offense. Currently the clips are playing PGs out of position at SG because they need the offense. JR would be the 2nd option after blake griffin, with CP3 stepping up whenever he feels like.
