Mr. ChicagoParticipantKendrick Perkins rips LeBron for tweets
ESPN.com news services
Perkins Rips LeBron
Kendrick Perkins can live with being dunked on as part of the game. He can even handle being tweeted about being dunked on.
But LeBron James‘ Twitter reaction to Blake Griffin‘s did-you-see-that dunk over Perkins didn’t sit well with the Oklahoma City Thunder center.
Perkins found himself in Griffin’s career highlight reel when the Los Angeles Clippers forward soared over him, absorbed contact and threw the ball down into the basket, fingers grazing the rim, in the Clippers’ 112-100 win Jan. 30.
Perkins then found himself on Twitter, where James, among others, could not contain his amazement over what he had seen.
"Dunk of the Year! @blakegriffin just dunked on Kendrick Perkins so hard!!! Wow! I guess I’m No. 2 now. Move over #6," James tweeted, apparently referring to his own dunk the day before over Chicago Bulls point guard John Lucas III being relegated behind Griffin’s poster-quality jam.
Perkins told Yahoo! Sports that he didn’t appreciate that.
"You don’t see Kobe (Bryant) tweeting," Perkins said, according to the report. "You don’t see Michael Jordan tweeting. If you’re an elite player, plays like that don’t excite you.
"At the end of the day, the guys who are playing for the right reasons who are trying to win championships are not worrying about one play. They also are not tweeting about themselves talking about going down to No. 2," Perkins added, according to the report. "I just feel [James] is always looking for attention and he wants the world to like him."
Perkins told Yahoo! Sports he respected Griffin for not making a spectacle of the moment. But if Griffin goes at the rim again the next time the Clippers and Thunder meet, Perkins said he won’t back down.
"If I was in the same position, in the same rotation, I’m going to jump again and again and again," Perkins said, according to Yahoo! Sports. "A lot of people are afraid of humiliation or don’t know how to handle embarrassment or would even get embarrassed. I don’t care."
"That’s my job," Perkins added, according to the report. "How will my teammates look at me if next time I just back out of the way and just let him dunk when I’m supposed to be defensive-minded, a shot-blocker? That would be a coward move on me. He’d just have to dunk on me again."
What does everyone think about his view of LeBron?

OldSkoolBasketballParticipantPerkins is just bitter as hell. I don’t see anything wrong with LeBron’s tweet and no one cared about it when he tweeted that then. Dumbest part was him saying elite players won’t be excited by that dunk. Bunch of NBA players tweeted about that dunk including Dirk. They are all human with emotions.

Jlv2011on the front of ESPN NBA. Perkins continually gripes about someone and I could care less about what’s on his mind. Although he is right about Lebron.

A Lil EnglishParticipantI’m no Lebron hater but agree with what Perk said especially about the number 2 bit. Saying move over no. 6 is blatantly saying he’d put himself at number 1. And he probably is trying to get people to like him by jumping on the Blakewagon – I don’t blame him for that though, he could use the PR! hahaReally though; damn right he should be more concerned with championships (& clutch plays) than highlight dunks.0- Posted on: Wed, 02/08/2012 - 8:07am #633399

baggin13ParticipantPerkins has a right to be annoyed with Lebron, but maybe not the best way to go about it. But he is a player doing his job, and I like what he said. He can’t back down, even if he is on the wrong side of a highlight and gets Shawn Bradlied! And personaly I think players need to stop tweeting all the time, it just seems like a way to get attention in the media, tweeting is for chicks

Johnny ChillThe 5th Wheel of the Celtics championship team .
For such a big guy, he is overly sensitive.
One of the most overrated centers in the league.

IndianaBasketballParticipantTell us something we *didn’t* know about LeBron Perk lol.
0 - Posted on: Wed, 02/08/2012 - 9:10am #633433

F_DA_POParticipantI can’t believe this guy is still crying over the dunk. If he never deleted his twitter account and never went public about twitter posts, it’s not even a big deal. It was just a great play by Blake Griffin.

Future_Scoutlebron is taking mental notes… *see u in the floor perk*

Ghost01ParticipantI really don’t get this. Twitter is an avenue of social media. Athletes are allowed to have Twitter. LeBron sees a dunk, as did D Wade, as did many other throughout the league, and tweeted about it, because it was awesome. There is nothing wrong with this. Was Lebron supposed to be locked in a dark gym training endlessly at the time of these tweets? No, he was watching the game, as a fan. Perkins is by definition, a nobody. He was the 5th starter on a C’s team that won the title. He’s a rock solid defender, but doesnt block shots, doesnt rebound, and can do absolutely nothing offensively. He has, in my opinion done just about as much harm as good for the OKC Thunder. They get no scoring out of the paint, and he is a big reason for that. His impact with them has not been on par with his impact on the Celtics. He’s the one who needs to shut up. You got dunked on. Quit being a baby about it, quit taking it so personally, and don’t bring up a tweet that happened over a week ago. Even if Lebron NEVER wins a ring, he will have had a 1000X more productive career than you. If your that mad about it, stop Lebron in an actual game, with your "elite" post defense.
I know Lebron is mentally week. That has been pretty much proven 100% true at this point. However, he still has the right to voice his opinion on twitter like anyone else. This wasn’t even a controversial tweet. It was him simply congratulating Blake Griffin. I know you are suppose to take sports seriously, but Lebron does that. Perkins is just mad that he’s gonna be on that poster for years.

sameolGParticipantIf it was anybody but Lebron….. he catches flack for being excited about a dunk too?
0 - Posted on: Wed, 02/08/2012 - 10:22am #633464

apb540ParticipantThe reason why LeBron is catching any crap on this one is because of the whole "#2" and "move over number 6" thing. Which he should cuz it’s an example of why no one likes him. Just so so cocky and into himself.

Ghost01ParticipantCalling someone else’s dunk better is pretty damn cocky of him…
0 - Posted on: Wed, 02/08/2012 - 10:56am #633490

sameolGParticipantWell I think his dunk was #1 before that since he jumped over and NBA players head for an alley oop… I don’t see how that comes off as cocky
0 - Posted on: Wed, 02/08/2012 - 11:02am #633491

WizardofOzParticipantWhat a crybaby. I do like what he said about having to risk getting dunked on, but everything else he said was nonsense. So a player can’t have any emotion after seeing an amazing play?
0 - Posted on: Wed, 02/08/2012 - 11:03am #633492

OldSkoolBasketballParticipantPerkins obviously brought LeBron up so people would stop talking about him getting posterize and shift the attention to LeBron’s tweet instead which is working since the LeBron hate is alive and well.
0 - Posted on: Wed, 02/08/2012 - 11:52am #633509

Toronto16ParticipantSorry but I gotta agree with Perk. When I saw the tweet my first thought was, "Really, Lebron? Why did you have to make it about you?"
0 - Posted on: Wed, 02/08/2012 - 12:06pm #633515

Tongue-Out-Like-23Participant"Saying move over no. 6 is blatantly saying he’d put himself at number 1."
Before Blake Griffin’s, what other dunk was anywhere near as good as LeBron’s over Lucas? It was by far the best dunk of the year before Griffin posterized Perkins.
0 - Posted on: Wed, 02/08/2012 - 12:07pm #633517

Tongue-Out-Like-23Participant"or don’t know how to handle embarrassment"
Lmfao, cmon Perkins…. you deactivated your Twitter account because of that dunk.
0 - Posted on: Wed, 02/08/2012 - 12:17pm #633521

marcusfizer21ParticipantI’m not an elite player so I don’t know how Kobe or MJ felt…but… DAMN! THAT WAS THE DUNK OF THE YEAR PERK! hahaha
0 - Posted on: Wed, 02/08/2012 - 1:08pm #633544

A Lil EnglishParticipantI didnt say it wasn’t the best dunk – I really dont know or care either! You see, I’m an elite player… plays like that dont excite me.

Scottoant93ParticipantCmon i dislike lebron because of his whole attention seeking attitude..but this year he has actually been good and kept his mouth shut. The only thing i heard him say before this was something about tebow(which he made about him too but wasnt a big deal). Perk is a crybaby just like when chris webber was talking crap at him and perkins said get a ring first then you could talk…lebron and webber are 20x the player he will ever be.. and deleting your twitter account just proves how much a p@ssy you actually are. For once i stood up for lebron when the media was turning against him…that means your doing a good thing lebron now dont f@ck it up.
sidenote let me make this straight before someone makes a stupid comment. I dislike lebron’s attitude not his game….so dont think im saying he sucks or anything.
