Stuckey3ParticipantI think the need for a backup at the 3 is long overdue. But we are pretty crap this year and are losing some guys through free agency. I think best player on the board regardless of position should be the plan.
I like Johnson the best out of your 3 choices though.

bigkozeParticipantThe best kept secret in all of college basketball on any level is Nate Miles, the player who was kicked out of Uconn, he is a tayshaun type player, he needs to develop his post a bit but he is going to be a good pro if he can keep his head on straight, I say Johnson out of the three mentioned, Buddinger has bust written all over hime, dont waste another pick like you did with Affalo

jorrye24Detroit is high on the Walter Sharpe guy that they drafted early in the 2nd round last year and no one knew who he was. He is nice,I watched him in the d-league a few times and he looks like a Lamar Odom type talent,a long 6’9 guy with the perimeter skills of a guard. He may be develop into an intriguing sf backup. I think they should look for a power forward/ center honestly,a Pendergraph for Arizona State or like they said above a swingman.

RooeyRacerParticipantBigKoze obv. has no idea what he’s talking about with the “bust” in Budinger. Out of any player in college basketball Chase is by far and away the most NBA “ready” of any prospect. There is no way in hell Chase Budinger will even be close to available at 16, he’s a top 10 NBA ready SG/SF pick for sure taken in the top 10. Detroit has enough wings to satisfy the SF position, and if they are truly in the running for the LBJ sweepstakes they aren’t going to want to waste a 1st round pick for a position that LeBron could hold. Detroit needs to solidify themselves with a solid Big man, with Rasheed realistically leaving in free-agency. Wallace was never a true C anyways, and Maxiell and Amir Johnson are true Forwards. Detroit should hone in on BJ Mullins who would be a solid big man in the middle. Although his game is a bit raw now, they could develop him into a solid force at the basket. Other options would be Dejaun Blair, or by picking AJ Ogilvy or Josh Heytvelt in the 2nd round.

eprizzle14ParticipantWhat if the Detroit drafted James Johnson who has some guard like skills he developed into a Gaurd, Stuckey, J Johnson, Sharpe, A Johnson + a Big Banger would be scoring ability and a LOT of length

usfballerParticipantDidn’t Joe Dumars say something to the effect of ‘if you’re 6’10+”, I’ve got a spot for you’? BJ Mullens is definately tall. Also think Craig Brackins would be a great fit if he (enters and) slides. I like James Johnson, but he really seems like he would be filling much the same roll Amir Johnson does now. They would have to either be really sure Amir was ready to start full time or giving up on him.

themidnightriderParticipantI think as long as they don’t draft a guard, Dumars has the luxury of taking whoever is highest on his draft board. Stuckey is set as combo guard, Rip Hamilton is proving he can still bring it, and Tayshaun is still solid. But, Tayshaun still only averages about 14ppg and is a good defender, but doesn’t contribute on offense all that much. Any SF, PF, C would help the Pistons get younger and less prone to technical fouls (sheed, thats you big guy).
I agree with usofballer. Brackins would be a good fit. I see him measuring a little short of 6-10, so he might fall, but he is skilled and sort of has range out to the 3. Definitely worth a shot.

bigkozeParticipantBUDINGER= Bust
Mullins is a risky pick in my opinion, Sharpe obviously is not ready if he is in the D-league, an up and comer in the D-league is Quinn Humphries, his stock is rising.
I say go after the kid from Mississippi St. the shot blocker.
JAMES JOHNSON is a better choice than booty BUDINGER0 - Posted on: Sun, 04/05/2009 - 1:31pm #144595
D7H7NParticipantStuckey is already the starting PG for Detroit
The Pistons need a true Center tbh. BJ Mullins would help a lot, although I think he’s gonna be a bust

cycloParticipantThe Pistons need a starting PF, starting C, and a PG to replace Allen Iverson who isn’t one.
Patrick Patterson would be a really good fit for them at PF.
Stephen Curry, Ty Lawson, Jonny Flynn or Jeff Teague would be good fits at PG.
A backup SF is the least of the Pistons concerns. You can pickup a journeyman veteran or use a second round pick for that.

bigkozeParticipantAfter watching sundays game i may be convinced that Will Bynum has what it takes, and that he may be the real deal. He mad smart decisions and found ways to get to the line.
I agree that i see BJ Mullins as a bust, but if he makes his game into a game like Tyson Chandler’s then he is going to have a spot on any team in the league. You watch it all the time when Chris Paul tosses one up to him and he just slams it in, that is what i hope to see from Mullins. One plus that Mullins has is that he has great touch from around 20 feet, kind of like Big Z in Cleveland. Mullins is way more athletic than Zydrunas Ilgauskas though.0 - Posted on: Wed, 05/06/2009 - 2:51pm #148549
detroit_pistonsParticipantI don’t think that any of the players that have been mentioned would fit into our mold. Why would we look for backups? We cant get those in free agency. We need someone that can be developed into a good player for our team. We need a “center”. We need someone like Ben Wallace when he played for Detroit but a bit taller. Someone who controls the paint by rebounding and blockin shots. We have scorers. We also need someone like Rasheed because RW is probably out of Detroit. Someone who can play the post but can strectch the defense with their long range shots or 3’s.
BJ Mullens isn’t going to cut it. The kid didn’t even start at OSU and he will, mark my words, be a disappointment in the NBA. I’ve watched some of his workouts and I don’t think he has the determination to be a good center in the NBA.
I think we need to look at some foreign players. I’ve read some of the articles and watched some vidoes on two guys: Donatas Motiejunas and Tomislav Zubcic. Good players I think. DM can play the Center position. He needs to add some weight but he could be very good. And TZ can stretch the defense.
