Fantastic SAS Video

Right after my freshman year at U of O, I got to do something I felt incredibly privileged to do. I was 19 years old, Summer 2003 and I got to go on a ship where I had 24 days of classes, 18 days of free ship time and 23 days in 8 ports: Sitka, Alaska, Kodiak, Alaska, Petropavlosk, Russia, Osaka, Japan, Brisbane, Australia, Auckland, New Zealand, Suva, Fiji, Honolulu, Hawaii (Started in Vancouver, BC and ended in Seattle, Washington). I got a solid number of upper division university credits (It was done through Pitt, now done through Virginia. But, the students were from schools all over the country and some even outside the country) and more importantly, I got to go to incredible places in the world. I have so many incredible memories and feel so lucky to have done this.

This is just an intro to the video I wanted to share with whoever felt so obliged to watch it. It is of the MV Explorer (No, it is not named after me. Just a coincidence) and it is shown to you by the students, faculty, staff and life long learners aboard the 2011 Fall Semester at Sea (SAS) voyage. It definitely costs a pretty penny, but their are programs and positions that indeed provide scholarship potential. I was on a different ship, the SS Universe Explorer, but this ship is even more incredible with what it has to offer. It even, as you will see, has a basketball area, that I took full advantage of in my 4 days in August on an Alumni voyage from Boston to Montreal. You learn a great deal about people and you get a taste of some amazing places in the world.

This video is just incredibly well done, to the song "Wavin’ Flag" by K’Naan in a number of languages. You get to see a full tour of the ship and get an idea of just how incredible the SAS community is.
