Marquis Teague

 I agree with Jeff being the better prospet when he declared. Teague desicion making is very poor. Overpenetrates, makes dumb passes, and forces shots at the rim from time-to-time. I personally think he stay another year to weed out all the AAU in him.

 Jeff was also a sophomore when he declared and wasn’t very efficient as a freshman either. However, I still believe Marquis is overrated as a college basketball player. His game translates more to the pro’s.

Well it is a big adjustment for him, to playing with all these talented players and I agree he has all the tools but doesnt seem to know how to run an offense properly and has a weak jumpshot. Also he is a much better prospect then Jeff he is only a freshman with 10 games of experience and Jeff came out after his third year in Wake Forest, were he had become a very polished player.

He is stronger and I think that he will get better as the year progresses. I never expected him to be Brandon Knight and I think that people just assumed he would be since he was playing for John Calipari. Still, almost every John Calipari PG struggles with the dribble drive at the start of the season, and Teague is no different. He is not the scorer that Brandon Knight is, but I feel he might be even better at running the offense than Knight was as the season goes on.

I do not know why his billing was so insanely high, people who expected him to come right in and take over for Brandon Knight were kidding themselves. That is not who he is and that is not how Kentucky is set up. I still think that in this years PG class, he is one of the better prospects, but this is not a PG class that I think shows incredible deals of NBA promise.

You also have to think about the different roles that Marquis and Jeff are in. If Marquis would have gone to Wake Forest or a team like Virginia with a Mike Scott, he would be putting up better numbers. He is clearly playing more point than Jeff did as a freshman and relied upon less to score and more as a set-up man. That is what he is best at anyway. It takes most freshman PG’s time in this role, and as it went, they still won the game.

He may not have lived up to the whole "next John Calipari PG" billing, but I think that he is still more than likely the top or one of the top PG prospects in next years draft. I think the chances are, he goes higher than Jeff did at 19 and lower than Brandon Knight did at 8. That is a pretty accurate assessment of where I think he ranks as a NBA prospect in my mind. People who throw around "the younger brother is better than their NBA older brother RIGHT NOW", are usually pretty off. What they should probably say is, they may have been a better prospect at the same point. I think that is probably true with Marquis in accordance to Jeff, who may have had better numbers as a freshman, but was in a very different situation.

Most ridiculous arguement I’ve ever seen. YES Marquis is the better player. YES he has some growing pains to endure having to share the ball w/ a talented team and learning that its not all about him. Jeff didn’t have to do that. Jeff HAD to score for Wake Forest when he played. He had some growing pains as well and he couldn’t facilitate a team offense either..Jeff was just a scoring guard. At this stage of the game Marquis is the better player he can get to the basket at will and no I don’t think his jumper is better than Jeff’s

 He is like Eric Bledsoe IMO and both will take time to develop skills

Lets re-visit this topic in Feb, we should have a clear picture of how his game progresses during the middle of conf play. And why are we comparing him to Jeff, he’s his own man. Marquis will be evaluated accordingly based on his own merits. But right now, Cal just wants him to limit mistakes and turnovers and Marquis knows if he plays outta control, Cal will bench him quickly. He’s not a high level point guard yet, and clearly is still learning how to play the position at this level. He’s extremely raw right now, kinda reminds me of a Javaris Crittenton ONLY in terms of how raw of a point guard prospect they were during their freshman year. The tools are there, but unless your a big man, tools only can get you so far…

as for now, his jumper is broke, doesnt know when to kick out, over penatrates way to much, he needs to know when to run the offense to

but this game, he showed better paitence, and was effient at best only one turnover… but he did show some craziness lol

but overall, he was solid

and i dont want my boy terrence jones shooting five threes again
