After hearing all the possibilities at SG for the Bulls……I’m surprised that JJ Barea hasn’t been a more popular name for them. I hear a lot about Richardson, Young and Afflalo going there but I think Barea wouldn’t be an awful choice for them. He is pretty darn good at creating his own shot and creating opportunities and open shots for teammates. He would be a great option off of the bench as a PG/SG to provide instant offense and give Rose a little more rest during games (He could even play alongside Rose against smaller backcourts or if they need another creator out there, similar to playing next to Kidd in Dallas for stretches

    Obviously there are many drawbacks:

-He is the anti-defensive player, seemingly always undersized and out muscled at either guard spot and Thibs abhors playing guys who are defensive liabilities

-He also doesn’t fit the nice offensive AND defensive blend the Bulls seem to be hoping for

All of that aside I think he may even be a better option than Richardson, who I feel has become the new Michael Finley and shoots to many jumpers while not driving and creating offense for others……..Afflalo and Young are better options but will be more expensive and difficult to get. Offering some the full or part of the mid-level doesn’t seem completely unreasonable. Also Watson I’m not a big fan of Watson at the backup PG spot and Thibs could still start a defensive presence at the 2 like Brewer.

    Thoughts??

    Great first post!

Though I do not think Barea is much of a SG.  As a back-up to D-Rose, he would certainly be a nice option, but I don’t think this would be a good fit.  He is too small to match up with other 2’s as the starter.

Yeah not the kind of move Bulls should look to be making an undersized guard when Rose will be playing near 40 minutes isn’t what you want. A lot of good two guard possibilities to be had, should be their main focus.

I read one line and quit reading…. After hearing all the possibilities at SG for the Bulls……I’m surprised that JJ Barea hasn’t been a more popular name for them.

Need a tissue?  And it’s still a terrible idea, regardless of the point you’re trying to make.

ronnie brewer should never start at the 2 for any NBA team…the Bulls MUST reach an agreement with either afflalo, richardson, courtney lee, etc or make a trade for someone who can play the 2. another season with keith bogans at the 2 will literally make me kill myself.

Although I feel the Bulls could use an upgrade from CJ Watson as their backup PG, I don’t feel Barea would really help the Bulls at all at shooting guard.  He’d be more like a backup point guard.  With the Bulls playing SG by commitee with Bogans/Korver/Brewer I don’t see Barea getting many minutes at all there and although he is a great competetor and explosive scorer, I don’t see where a 5’7” player fits in Thibadeau’s team defensive scheme.

A Rose/Barea backcourt would just be strange and a Watson/Barea backcourt would just be awful.  He’d be a backup PG for that team and not play any minutes at SG, IMO.

SG is their main weakness, I feel they should explore other options rather than reach for a 5’7” player who could maybe play a couple of minutes at SG.

    My list reads, as follows.

    1. Afflalo 2. Jamal Crawford 3. Richardson 4. Young ( very talented, but I worry about chemsitry)

after that, I just say keep it as is. bringing in Anthony Parker, Delonte West and other 2nd teir SG prospects wouldn’t do anything but add another SG to split minutes with Brewer, Bogans and Korver who are all similar caliber players, but in my opinion, I prefer Korver and Brewer to anyone after #4.

No… Listen, I love JJ and I love how he just kick ass against the Heat but I don’t see him being a fit with Chicago. The Bulls badly need a big guard that can shoot the ball and create his own offense. yes, JJ can do the latter but his size will be a big liability on the court. I think the Bulls are pursuing Nick Young but I’m more into a veteran player like J-Rich. Young seems to be pretty bad in terms of shot selection and his defense is not something Thibs would be ecstatic about but his athleticism and scoring ability is beneficial for the Bulls. J-Rich is a solid option IMO because he’s a veteran who is a guy that can shoot, create and play OK D. As much as I would love to have Afflalo in a Bulls uni, Denver isn’t going to make it easy for us to sign him.
