providencefriars1ParticipantBox Score Bits 11-13-11Game I watched Sunday: Cleveland St 71 at Vandy 58I am very glad I chose this game to watch. This game is the biggest upset so far, but it primarily shows that Cleveland St will compete even without Norris Cole. D’Aundray Brown was the main contributor for Cleveland St, he scored 18pts, played great defense and rebounded well. This team could definitely win the Horizon since Butler has already lost and Detroit is without Holman for some time.Vanderbilt looks to be in a little bit of trouble without Ezeli. Gouldbourne and Tcheinchang both played well defensively but they simply don’t live up to Ezeli offensively. Because Taylor isn’t really a scorer, Vandy needs someone else to step up to be a second scorer along with John Jenkins and honestly I don’t know who can be that guy. Jenkins didn’t shoot the ball that great today, but he still finished with 17points.Games of the weekI’m going to preview this week’s games today. With the College Basketball Marathon on Tuesday and pre conference tourney’s starting up there is a good slate of games this week. I have listed the best games Tuesday-Friday and the best 5 games are in bold.TuesdayKentucky at Kansas- This is where we see what KU is made of. We know Kentucky has talent, but we don’t know who will step up to be a perimeter scorer next to Robinson’s inside game. KU’s depth has to hurt as well since they have only 7 or 8 scholarship players and Kentucky’s 7th man is Mcdonald’s All American Kyle Wiltjer. The key matchup is Anthony Davis vs Thomas Robinson down low.Duke at Michigan St- In this game, we will take a look at the frontcourts of both teams. For the Spartans, Draymond Green and Brandon Dawson need to hit the boards like they did against Carolina and provide a little more scoring. Duke also leans on their frontcourt for a little bit of scoring, Ryan Kelly and Mason Plumlee in particular, but primarily gets scoring from the guards. This is what will hinder MSU, they lack a perimeter scorer and as we saw with UCLA, you can only go so far with bigs. They key matchup here is Draymond Green vs Mason Plumlee.Florida at Ohio St- Another great game between two terrific teams. Ohio St has a balanced offense led by Sullinger and Buford and a great pass first point guard in Aaron Craft. Florida has the best backcourt in the country with four great guards who can all score the basketball. In this game, we have another big man key matchup with Sullinger vs the defensive minded Patric Young.Washington St at GonzagaNorthern Iowa at St Mary’sKent St at West VirginiaURI at TexasRutgers at MiamiSanta Clara at UCSBWednesdayLBSU at PittSam Houston St at Notre DameCreighton at UABIndiana at EvansvilleNew Mexico St at New MexicoHofstra at Oregon StThursdaySt Johns at Arizona- Here is a matchup between two athletic teams with big question marks. First, Arizona is led by Kyle Fogg and Jesse Perry who have both had 2 good games and 1 bad game. Freshman Josiah Turner is really struggling and was benched for his performance. The other two impact freshman, Nick Johnson and Angelo Chol, have played well of the bench so far. St Johns has played great pressure defense against bad teams but we need to see what they can do against good competition. Achuiwa has proven to be a beast so far, but again we need to see what he’ll do against guys like Oriakhi in the Big East. Key matchup, Kyle Fogg vs Nurideen Lindsey.Texas A&M at Mississippi St- Both teams are shorthanded here. Middleton is out for a few weeks with a knee injury and Sidney may be out with an injury too. The Bull dogs were upset by a good Akron team last week, but Dee Bost, Rodney Hood, and Arnett Moultrie played pretty well. A&M was led by Ray and Elston Turner who provided a good inside outside scoring punch. The key matchup is Ray Turner vs Arnett Moultrie on the inside.Maryland at AlabamaPurdue at IonaLSU at NorthwesternVCU at Seton HallFairfield at MinnesotaWichita St at ColoradoFridayHouston at ArkansasNew Mexico at Arizona StProspect Watch:Moe Harkless, PF St Johns- 18pts, 4reb, 3stl, 3blk, 7/11fgNurideen Lindsey, SG St Johns- 15pts, 10reb, 9ast, 2stl, 5to’sD’Angleo Harrison, SG St Johns- 17pts, 5reb, 3ast, 3stlGod’sgift Achiuwa, C St Johns- 15pts, 8reb, 4/5fg, 7/7ftJohn Jenkins, SG Vandy- 17pts, 5/14fg, 2/8 3ptJeff Taylor, SF Vandy- 9pts, 4reb, 6to’sTyler Zeller, C UNC- 27pts, 8reb, 8/13fgJon Henson, PF UNC- 20pts, 12reb, 2blkHarrison Barnes, SF UNC- 17pts, 5reb, 6to’sKendall Marshall, PG UNC- 6pts, 15ast, 1toPeyton Siva, PG Lville- 11pts, 3ast, 3to’sChane Behannen, PF Lville- 10pts, 13reb, 4/7fgGorgui Dieng, C Lville- 7pts, 9reb, 4blkVictor Oladipo, SF Indiana- 21pts, 5reb, 6/9fgCody Zeller, PF Indiana- 7pts, 5reb, 6stlVerdell Jones III, G Indiana- 16pts, 3reb, 2ast, 4stlAshton Gibbs, SG Pitt- 24pts, 5reb, 6/14 3ptTravon Woodall, PG Pitt- 17pts, 10ast, 7rebNasir Robinson, PF Pitt- 22pts, 6reb, 4ast, 9/10fgKentavious Caldwell-Pope, SG Georgia- 11pts, 6reb, 5/8fgGerald Robinson, PG Georgia- 15pts, 5reb, 6ast, 4to’sKyle Fogg, SG Arizona- 21pts, 3reb, 3/5 3ptSolomon Hill, SF Arizona- 16pts, 11reb, 3ast, 4/6fgAnthony Jones, F Baylor- 11pts, 5reb, 2blkQuincy Miller, SF Baylor- 17pts, 4reb, 3ast, 2blkQuincy Acy, F Baylor- 14pts, 4/5fg, 2stl, 2blkJ’Covan Brown, SG Texas- 28pts, 8ast, 4reb, 1stlMyck Kabongo, PG Texas- 6pts, 7ast, 2stl, 2toJulien Lewis, SG Texas- 18pts, 4rebSean Kilpatrick, SG Cincinnati- 13pts, 9rebYancy Gates, PF Cincinnati- 15pts, 11reb, 1blk, 2stlJorge Guitterez, PG Cal- 15pts, 4reb, 5ast, 2stl, 5to’sAllen Crabbe, SG Cal- 21pts, 5rebAziz N’Daiye, C Washington- 13pts, 12reb, 3blkAbdul Gaddy, PG Washington- 15pts, 6ast, 3to’sCJ Wilcox, SG Washington- 19pts, 4reb, 4stl, 2blkTerrence Ross, SG Washington- 14pts, 5reb, 2ast, 2blkTony Wroten, PG Washington- 7pts, 3reb, 4ast, 5to’sDoug Mcdermont, SF Creighton- 21pts, 8reb, 10/12fg, 20 minMike Scott, PF Virginia- 8pts, 15reb, 2astRay Turner, PF Texas A&M- 20pts, 8reb, 9/11fgRichard Howell, PF NCST- 25pts, 8reb, 2blk, 11/13fgJamaal Franklin, SG SDSU- 31pts, 6reb, 3stlJarrod Jones, PF Ball St- 25pts, 9reb, 11/15fgJohn Shurna, SF Northwestern- 15pts, 5reb, 2ast, 2stlTerrell Stoglin, PG Maryland- 22pts, 4reb11-14-11Game I watched: UCF 50 vs Florida St 73This game was not as lopsided as the score indicated. Florida St used their impressive defense and extraordinary length to gain momentum in the first half which they carried throughout the game. UCF is led by power forward Keith Clanton who had a decent game but his offense was definitely compromised by the play of Xavier Gibson and Bernard James on the interior. Marcus Jordan, the second best player and leading scorer last season for the Knights made many mistakes and committed many turnovers.Florida St’s offense was non-existent in the first half until diminutive point guard Jeff Peterson sparked the offense with three straight finishes. It looks like Florida St will have another top defense this year with the length and toughness of Gibson, Kreft, and James down low. One player who really caught my eye was the 6’11’ power forward Xavier Gibson. Gibson showed his nice touch around the rim, taking his guy off the dribble and finishing with a variety of moves around the rim. He also showed his stroke by hitting a trailer three early in the first half. His combination of size, skill set and athleticism is great both offensively and defensively. The one thing that worries me with him is motor which was inconsistent throughout the game.Prospect Watch (excluding all marathon games)Shabazz Napier, PG Uconn- 21pts, 1ast, 6to’sJeremy Lamb, SG Uconn- 20pts, 7rebTyler Olander, PF Uconn- 7pts, 7reb, 3astAlex Oriakhi, PF/C Uconn- 8pts, 9reb, 1blkAndre Drummond, PF/C Uconn- 8pts, 5reb, 2blkDJO, SG Marquette- 24pts, 6ast, 2rebVander Blue, SG Marquette- 14pts, 6ast, 4rebJae Crowder, F Marquette- 25pts, 10reb, 4ast, 3stlAugustus Gilchrist, PF/C USF- 11pts, 12reb, 4blk, 5/12fgVictor Rudd Jr, SF USF- 30pts, 2reb, 3astJaMychal Green, PF Bama- 18pts, 5reb, 2blkTony Mitchell, SF Bama- 12pts, 9reb, 4ast, 3to’sBernard James, C Florida St- 18pts, 11reb, 3blk, 8/9fgXavier Gibson, PF Florida St- 12pts, 7reb, 1blk, 4flsMichael Snaer, SG Florida St- 15pts, 5reb, 3astMarcus Denmon, SG Missouri- 12pts, 5reb, 3ast, 2stlKim English, SG Missouri- 18pts, 3reb, 5/8fgPhil Pressey, PG Missouri- 22pts, 3reb, 4ast, 5stl, 4to’sCleveland Melvin, PF DePaul- 16pts, 8reb,Jeremiah Kelly, SG DePaul- 24pts, 5ast, 3stlBrandon Young, G DePaul- 19pts, 5ast, 3rebMeyers Leonard, C Illinois- 8pts, 11reb, 5blkDJ Richardson, SF Illinois- 20pts, 3ast, 2rebMelsahn Basabe, PF Iowa- 15pts, 10reb, 1blkEric May, SF Iowa- 20pts, 9rebMatt Gatens, G Iowa- 27pts, 6reb, 4ast, 2stlDaniel Miller, C Georgia Tech- 14pts, 15reb, 6ast 2to’sKameron Holsey, PF Georgia Tech- 21pts, 4reb, 9/10fgVincent Council, PG Providence- 26pts, 7ast, 4reb, 5toBryce Cotton, SG Providence- 24pts, 8/11fg, 6/7ftJason Clark, SG Gtown- 17pts, 5reb, 3ast, 3stlHollis Thompson, SF Gtown- 19pts, 4reb, 18min, 5/6 3ptRobbie Hummel, SF Purdue- 18pts, 5reb, 4astRyne Smith, SG Purdue- 26pts, 3rebTony Wroten, PG Washington- 11pts, 5reb, 6ast, 3stlTerrence Ross, SG Washington- 24pts, 3reb, 9/13fgCJ Wilcox, SG Washington- 17pts, 4reb, 3ast, 2stlAbdul Gaddy, PG Washington- 15pts, 5reb, 5astTrevor Mbakwe, PF Minnesota- 17pts, 10reb, 4blk, 6/7fgTim Hardaway, SG Michigan- 15pts, 3/7 3ptRakim Sanders, SG/SF Fairfield- 25pts, 9reb, 2astJuan Fernandez, PG Temple- 19pts, 5ast, 3rebKeith Clanton, PF UCF- 11pts, 6reb, 5to’sMurphy Holloway, PF Ole Miss- 14pts, 10reb, 1blkTim Frazier, PG Penn St- 20pts, 10ast, 6rebRyan Anderson, PF Boston College- 13pts, 10rebRay Mccallum, G Detroit- 20pts, 7reb, 4astEric Atkins, PG Notre Dame- 13pts, 4ast, 2rebRyan Pearson, PF George Mason- 18pts, 10reb, 3astJared Cunningham, SG Oregon St- 17pts, 3reb, 5/7fgAaron Bright, SG Stanford- 21pts, 4ast, 5/7fgDeonte Burton, PG Nevada- 28pts, 4reb, 3ast0 - AuthorPosts
