Who should the Utah Jazz draft?

Should trade their pick. Their just going to get a terrible player in a terrible draft who will ride the bench for their 5-6 year career.

I agree with Alex, depth at PG is really the only glaring need for this team. They will likely be picking in the last 1/3 off the draft but a player such as Lawson or Collison could still be sitting there. Thats where I would go.

I wonder how you possibly think that….they already have Ronnie Brewer, Matt Harpring, C.J. Miles, Kyle Korver, obviously Andrei Kirilenko, and little used Morris Almond to fill the SG/SF positions. Assuming they re-sign guys such as Carlos Boozer and Paul Milsap, and that Mehmet Okur doesn’t opt for and leave via free agency, I say depth at PG is their key need. Ronnie Price and Brevin Knight are free agents at end of this season, so I see them drafting a backup PG. Players I’m looking at are Stephen Curry, Eric Maynor, Ty Lawson, and Darren Collison as possible draft picks.

So because they have a late pick that means there won’t be anybody there who can help them? Right, so how is that Paul Millsap pick looking? You know, they guy they drafted 47th overall a couple years ago, I guess they should have traded that pick as well because clearly you think there’s no talent in the NBA draft outside of the lottery.

Collison would be a good pick a quick ballhawking defense player to back up DWill

They need someone behind Milsap when Boozer leaves… Or a quality back up center… Young guy out of Ohio state they have isn’t the answer, he’s a bust

I could only see them drafting a SF. CJ miles is good but still needs time to develop and who knows how long that will take. Andre is a FA in 2010 so assuming the jazz don’t resign him that leaves them a little thin at the SF position. I can only see them going after three players
DeJuan Blair= They lack a dominant big man inside. Okur is good but never dominating. I think he would be the go to guy in the Post.
Damion James=Very versatile player. He can shoot,drive what ever you wan’t the Jazz have also expressed interest in drafting him.
Sam Young= He’s one of the great college players that doesn’t get much love for all he does. IMO he has the talent to be a lottery pick. He is maybe the best at getting fouled, going to the line and banging his shots out in all of college basketball. He is a game changer

They should look to draft a combo forward…I dont think they will resign Kirilenko and rightfully so. They should go after James Johnson really,he is NBA ready and he is a TRUE combo forward

People are always talking about a weak draft. I mean when has there been a draft that was great all the way through the first round besides 96′. So quit with the nonsense Gooden, what are you supposed to do? Wait till your team gets bad enough so they can pick in the lottery every year. Because Utah isn’t going to be in the lottery anytime soon, so they should trade all their picks until that point?

If Thabett was there at their pick I would say take him… I just don’t see anything they need but more heart in the low post. Both Boozer and Millsap are undersized and Okur is not someone ANYONE would back down to. They need a shot blocker ASAP. They should have drafted DeAndre Jordan last year instead of getting another soft big man…. The Jazz do so well because they play team defense, just imagine if they had a big man to toss shots… Get rid of Okur and get Rasheed Wallace and they would be PERFECT. And do whatever with the draft pick. Draft on potential or get a PG like someone said before….

I dont think they would give up a player going into his 7th year (Okur) for a player going into his 15th year (Wallace). Rasheed is not that dominant a shot blocker. They wont have the money to resign both Boozer and Milsap, so one of them will leave, but I think a quality point will be available when they draft as opposed to an NBA ready big man.

Based upon this list I bet they will only re-sign Millsap, Almond, and Boozer.
(Doubt Okur or Korver will leave)
That means they need to draft 1 more big man and a backup combo guard would be nice.
If they draft a Backup Big men options: Hasnborough may not be a terrible option. I think he’d be a great bench player. Craig Brackins would also be great next to Kosta Koufos.
If they draft a combo guard: Wayne Ellington would be great for them although he seems to be a pure shooting guard. Jrue Holiday would fit in nicely in the Jazz’s system too.

I think Darren Collison would fit best in the Jazz system as a player who would be an upgrade over Ronnie Price and Brevin Knight.

Knight is past his prime and I see him moving on, but price has filled in nicely when Williams was injured earlier this year. I still think a back up point guard is what they need. Maynor makes a lot of sense if he slips.

In my mock, I have the Jazz drafting Chase Budinger in round 1 and Brandon Ewing in round 2.

Ewing’s college conference plays a lot of games in Utah so I’m sure the Jazz are familiar with him. Could be a good backup PG in the NBA.

The Jazz may also fear losing Boozer to free agency and draft a PF in round 1.
