apb540ParticipantI don’t understand the hating on David Stern. He’s just the dude in between the Owners and Players. He doesn’t give a hoot if the Owners get 50% or 20%; he just wants a dam season.

scliddiardParticipantIt’s not the negative effect Stern has, it’s the negative effect the greedy players are having, I can’t believe how many of you are on the side of the players, when a business is losing money, the owner of that business is going to do what ever is necessary to reverse that problem and turn his business into a profitable venture. That is what the owners are doing, the players will still make millions but the old CBA proved to be a terrible business agreement for the owners and they rightfully want it changed . The players will still make millions but the changes being proposed by the owners are necessary to make the league profitable for the teams and make the league more competitive and balanced.

boffacheeriosParticipantMake no mistake, the players are to blame for the loss of games/ the season. Cut backs are absolutely ESSENTIAL in times like this if the NBA even hopes to compete with other pro sports. I read the other day that the NBA has now moved below the MLS (that’s right, major league soccer) in popularity. We’re talking about the american equivelent of Euro league basketball for soccer. The MLS is a complete joke in the soccer world and it’s higher on the charts than the NBA. Players will have to contain their tears and realize that making 20 mil a year is more than they deserve to do what they do.

TallmanNYCParticipantUmm, the teams aren’t losing money. Are you actually believing the bull put out by Stern on this point? His $300 million in losses was totally discretited by major newspapers once they looked at the numbers. And if the "team" is losing money it is because the owner has the parking lot and its fees in one business ($25 to park for three hours), the concession ($5 hot dogs anyone?) in another business and the "team" by itself suddenly isn’t making him any money. Maybe a few teams are having a tough year. That happens. Look at how much people just paid for the Golden State Warriors and tell me those guys don’t expect to make lots of money.
Google Forbes and any basketball teams name. You will see a lot of financial information about the teams and and it is well recognized that Forbes never captures all of the value of a team. (Like the NJ Nets basically allowed Rattner to build a huge amount of condos in Brooklyn because he needed them to support the stadium he is building and Brooklyn wanted a professional basketball team. The Nets have paid for themselves already without having played a game in Brooklyn.)
And as for the NBA being less popular than MLS, I hope that was a joke. You know that there were RECORD ticket sales, attedance and viewer ratings for the NBA last year, right? It ain’t the NFL, but the NBA is solidly the number two sport in America and it exports world wide reall well.

tuck243ParticipantBro!!!!!! Its seems like you are of the few fans who have done their homework on this… TOO many times I have to correct someone who gave their 2 cents and was WRONG… This is the wikipedia and ESPN generation which believe anything they see or hear… That 50/50 split sounded like music to their ears (Honestly this is EXACTLY Stern wanted it to do, make you look like a fool because half is fair right?). That’s why this is his fault, he work for the owners not the players. Now majority of the misinformed fans are taking sides with the owners which is similar to taking sides to Wall Street and AIG, while getting their bonuses… NBA owners KNOW they aren’t making majority of their money through the team as an enitity, but they make it through the perks… And we are not talking a $50 million shoe endorsment, we are talking potential BILLIONS… So this notion that the teams are losing money is stupid… I really wish people do their homework before they speak… But kudos to you TallmanNYC…
