Alright, while the actual ESPN rankings are IMO very controversial, I thought it would be fun to introduce a game that I have been playing with my friends in NBA 2k12.

    Rules

    1. Create a team using the BEST BALANCED team from ESPN Top 500, with a maximum amount of players being 15, and minimum is 12, the point is to create a really balanced team for ex. not too many ballhogs, no deadbeat defense or offense, less than one ego, etc. Also explaining why your team is the most balanced would make your roster make more sense.

    2. The limits are 1 player from 1-10, 1 player from 11-30, 2 players from 31-50, 3 players from 51-100, 5 from 101-200, and the rest from 200. However for the player who’s ranking is 1-10, you do not have to choose from that specific range, ex Gordon Hayward over Lebron James, or Brian Scalabrine over Kobe Bryant. Usually my friends and I would then usually draft the players into a 2k12 league and sim the games, but I’m guessing we can just vote on the best team.

    Here’s my team

PG- Ty Lawson (ranked #64)- extremely quick, perfect P&R an P&P with D12 and Melo

SG- Andre Iguodala (ranked #34)- athletic, young, makes open shots, and lockdown defender

SF- Carmelo Anthony (ranked #12)- sweetshooting, athletic SF, may not play good D, but can easily be hidden with the D of Iguodala on perimeter and Cousins and D12 on inside

PF- Demarcus Cousins (ranked #82)- young, good scorer and rebounder, potential, can be a presence on D sometimes

C- Dwight Howard (ranked #2)- young, bulky, athletic defender with developing post skills, P&R

6- Danilo Gallinari (ranked #68)- sixth man, stretch the floor for D12, good potential, play 3/4

7- Demar Derozan ( ranked #101)- extremely athletic, slasher, developing, play 2/3, exciting

8- Taj Gibson ( ranked #103)- young, hustle player, lengthy, and brings energy every night, good defender

9- Greg Monroe (ranked #132)- huge bigman, play 4/5, lengthy, good passer

10- Kyrie Irving (ranked #140)- young, athletic, true PG, play as combo guard

11- Marvin Williams (ranked #165)- good defender, won’t take many shots

12- Evan Turner (ranked #171)- play 1/2/3 makes shots, slasher, good passer

The First Team I made was really similiar to your own (Howard, Anthony and Iguodla) so I changed it up and went a completely different route:

PG Stephen Curry (#38) – With LBJ handling the ball on this team Curry will be able to focus on spreading the floor with his deadly shot. He will be a real threat playing off the ball and should be a great third option on this team.

SG Tony Allen (#72) – Excellent perimeter defender will do what he does best and let LBJ, Curry and Amare worry about scoring.

SF Lebron James (#1) – My franchise player. Now to give him what he needs; defenders, veterans, spot shooters and a second option that can really open the floor up for him.

PF Amare Stoudemire (#13) – A terrific second option, Amare is a dynamic scorer and an explosive player whose weaknesses will be hidden playing next to Bogut.

C Andrew Bogut (#33) – A terrific rebounder and defender at center is just what 25 other teams in the league need.

    Bench

PG Kyle Lowry (#66) – Solid backup PG is a very good defender and a tough SOB to boot

PG Gary Neal (#149) – He won’t get many minutes on this team but he’s young and was undrafted so he shouldn’t be too picky. When he does come in the game he’s apt to go off from beyond the three point line.

SG Landry Fields (#128) – This swingman looks like the ideal glue guy on a championship team.

SF Tayshaun Prince (# 105) – Not going to get much PT behind Lebron but he’s still a good defender and a heck of an asset in the locker room.

PF Serge Ibaka (#56) – Another front court player to add defense and athleticism. His energy will be huge coming off the bench.

C Channing Frye (#160) – More valuable to this team than you might suspect. Frye is a big man with range all the way out to three point land, a match up advantage than Lebron would love to take advantage off by charging the lane and then kicking the ball back out.

C – Ben Wallace (#227) – Might not be able to contribute major minutes anymore but he’s still a rugged defender who has alot to offer with his championship experience and leadership.

     PG-Jason Kidd

    SG-Kobe Bryant

    SF-Andre Iguodala

    PF-Dirk Nowitzki

    C-Dwight Howard

    6th MAN-Pau Gasol

    7th-Steph Curry

    8th-Serge Ibaka

    9th-Ray Allen

    10th-Trevor Ariza

    11th-Marc Gasol

    12th-Jrue Holiday

    13th-Tony Allen

    14th-Tyson Chandler

    15th-KG

Balance of athletes and shooters, offense and defense. Kobe and LBJ will be a Jordan/Pippen offensive combo with Dwight taking a smaller offensive role while playing a more intimidating Rodman role. Dirk and Kidd bring the floor spacing and shooting to open things up for Bryant down low as a post option.

On a side note for those who don’t think NBA players give a damn about these kinds of rankings some of them  actually do. Look up the ESPN rankings 11-15 and check out Carmelo Anthony at #12.

I needed some motivation today, and I just received it. Thank you @NBAonESPN!!!!!!!!!Fri Oct 14 20:34:36 via web

PG – John Wall (40) – pure speed and athleticism, with great floor vision. Will be a perennial all star as soon as he tightens up his handle. Also will be the best defensive pg in the league in a few years.
SG – Brandon Roy (59) – If I can find a way to keep him on the floor for a full season this guy is an absolute steal at 59. One of the best players in the league when he’s healthy, can be an absolutely clutch scorer for this team.
SF – Danny Granger (36) – a guy who can spread the floor and open up the inside a bit for my two big men. Also can be a go to shooter in the clutch.
PF – Kevin Love (16) – this was tough because I really wanted Melo but Kevin Love is the best rebounder in the game and if you put him next to Dwight Howard the other team might never get a rebound the entire game. He is also incredibly unselfish, willing to defer to teammates, and do what the team needs of him. Plus a big man who can pass and shoot 3’s can’t hurt can it.
C – Dwight Howard (2) – can’t go wrong picking the best defensive player in the game and a center who can go up and catch anything around the basket
B1 (SF) – Danillo Gallinari (68)– my shooter off the bench who can come it at any time and hit me a clutch three, doesn’t need to take a lot of shots, just takes what comes to him
B2 (C)– Javale McGee  (99)– length and athleticism which can make him an elite defender to hop in off the bench when we are in need of a stopper.
B3 (SG) – Demar Derozan (101) – gives me a slasher who can come in and run when we want to go up tempo.
B4 (PF) – Michael Beasley (109) – sure he has personality quirks but the guy is talented. If we can get him to buy into a team first mentality he would be a beast off the bench.
B5 (SG) – Thabo Sefolosha (134) – elite defender off the bench
B6 (PG) – Jose Calderon (148) – I need a backup PG, and was looking for someone with a veteran attitude and the ability to hang on to the ball in case Wall is in turnover trouble. Also is a guy who is a great distributor.
B7 (PF) – Derrick Williams (196) – why not be exactly like the twolves and logjam my PF slot with current wolves. Williams has very good potential and could be a nice offensive weapon playing off of Dwight Howard.
B8 (PG) – Ricky Rubio (204) – I’m one of those suckers who still hasn’t given up on rubio. I’ve seen some of the passes he makes and he could be a great PG to have on a team like this, especially since he wouldn’t need to shoot often (or ever for that matter)
B9 (SF) – Paul George (205) – I think he has great potential to be a scorer in the future, would be real nice this deep on the bench.
B10 (C) – Enes Kanter (253) – let him develop deep on my bench behind these guys and be a big body I can throw at people late in the game
