 This is what pisses me off, shouldn’t all the major stars and the owners be locked in a conference room and no one can come out until an agreement in reached? I mean both sides know that an agreement will be reached eventually and the more games cancelled the more money will be lost on both sides, why are they meeting one day and then take 3 days off, what’s the heck man

Because it’s the intelligent players who understand how to negotiate and that are well spoken who are the best choices to represent the players.  Take Derrick Rose for instance.  Rose is a baller, but have you ever heard him speak?  It wouldn’t be in the player’s best interests to have someone like him who doesn’t speak well and can’t formulate proper sentences to represent the players.  It’s the same way with football, the intelligent, well spoken individuals are the ones representing the players, regardless of skill level.

Because Roger Mason Jr needs more money than Lebron James

 ^^^^ frogman is right the superstars get endorsements so they dont need the money right away.  Why do you think LeBron took less last year to join the heat, endorsements!

 Randolph Morris and Brian Scalabrine are scrubs, Derrick Fisher has won 5 NBA titles and will hit 10,000 career points this season…

Derek Fisher, Roger Mason and Maurice Evans probably have economic backgrounds. I mean, those players could also be representatives and giving messages back to the players. Do you want LBJ who is only a high school graduate to negotiate with billionaires? The NBA is a unionized organization so you do representatives from both parties (owners and the players).

I feel so comfortable trusting these washed up players.

 Fisher has a communications degree, Evans finished his bachelors over the summer and I don’t know about Mason.

Because this labor dispute isnt about the superstar players…we all know they will still get the max deals and all that goes with being an all-star…

this labor dispute is about the little guy who might only make the minimum or just got drafted…thats who billy hunter and those guys are fighting for…

there are more "middle of the road" to minumum guys than LeBron James and Kobes

It’s called taking somebody hostage.  You should read into that… it’s not legal.

 Mason went to UVA, which is ranked the second best public university in the country and the 25th best overall. I’m not sure if he has a degree though, as he entered the draft as a junior.

Why isn’t Jeremy Lin helping out the players union though? He has a Harvard economics degree for crying out loud!

Yeah, it does seem like the guys they show around Hunter and Fisher at these meetings are fringe and borderline nba players….Most casual Fans have never heard of these guys…..

Some of them might not be in the league when the lockout is over….lol

It kind of makes sense that the superstars don’t feel like they have the time or need be a player representatives. Also the playershave a sense of who has the kind of head on their shoulders that they should be in meetings like this and those are the players who get voted in if they want to commit the time. Javale McGee isn’t getting voted on but it has little to do with what school you did or didn’t go to. Some players may find this stuff interesting and good experience. Ronald Regan basically started his political career by being president of the Screen Actors Guild. A guy like Fisher might think of this as a little background experience for his next career. 

But none of the players should really be doing any negotiating except when necessary to deliver the big "No way" statements. That is Hunter’s job and even he should be getting advice from financial and legal types. In discussions like this, the players are always at a negotiating disadvantage because of the experience difference between them and D. Stern (Stern has been negotiating in business settings since he graduated from law school in 1966, that is 45 years; not to mention the owners who are all businessmen of one form of another even if many of them did inherit their wealth). But the players can afford to hire top notch lawyers to negotiate for them as well. Presumably they are doing that and not actually having D. Fisher or any of the other players doing much of the talking.

Why are they all bottom of the rotation guys? Well, do you want Allen Iverson negotiating for you? Nothing against guys like Rose and Iverson but everyone has their strengths, and I honestly wouldn’t want a guy like Lebron or T Mac or even Kobe, guys who never spent a minute of college trying to solve a labor deal.

Although Shaq in his prime may have been usefull, could’ve kicked some David Stern a$$.
