Well….this was basically a given…but…it’s offical…DaJuan Coleman (no relation to ex-Syracuse’s Derick Coleman) has offically committed to Syracuse.

Coleman is one of the TOP players in the class of 2012…although…he does have some conditioning issues.

Here is a quick player profile with a bunch of videos.

I have only seen a few videos on the kid but I’m not overly impressed. He is nimble for how big he is but the dude has no athleticism and his rebounding left a lot to be desired. Granted, this was only a few mixtapes off YouTube so I understand it’s not the real thing. I’m interested to see how he looks this winter; hopefully he got with a good trainer and added some quickness and jumping ability.

Fab Melo better break out this year or else he will never get an opportunity to go NBA. With Coleman, Christmas, Keita, and Melo there will be a log jam. Chances are Coleman and Christmas would start with Keita getting good minutes at PF/C. The future of Cuse is looking good.

Last year Cuse only lost Rick Jackson. This year we only lose Joseph and Jardine (+ 2 walkons.) That leaves us with a 2012 lineup of:

Guards – Triche, Waiters, Carter-Williams, Cooney

Forwards – Christmas, Fair, Southerland, Grant

    Centers – Coleman, Keita, Melo

That is scary good. If only they would’ve stayed in the Big East.

He reminds me of Eddy Curry somewhat with his post game, though I think he is probably 2-3 inches shorter and not quite as athletic overall. It is tough to make a comparison for Coleman, though he compares himself to Zach Randolph apparently http://fivestarbasketball.com/players/299-dajuan-coleman

I like the fact that he stuck with the hometown school he wanted to go to the whole time, not allowing the fact that they’ll  have a slew of more experienced forwards and centers on the roster that may not allow him to play huge min as a freshman. He coulda just gone down to Kentucky since their whole frontcourt will be gone except probably Wiltjer, and he’d probably start and get big min as a freshman.
But he stayed wit da ‘Cuse and will have to go in there and compete. You would figure Melo, Keita, and Christmas, etc. will be better players next year so this will give him a good chance to go in there and compete. Boheim, and just coaches in general, will play the best players regardless of class, so if he as good as some say he his, he’ll go out there and show it. A kid like him will probably take a while to get into college shape and understand basic defensive concepts, despite being in the 2-3. Doesn’t seem like a can’t miss prospect on the lil I’ve seen, should focus on being a productive college player first and getting up there in that depth chart.
