PyronParticipantNBA Hall of Famer Magic Johnson made fun of superstar LeBron James, calling attention to his inability to win a championship and fourth-quarter shortcomings.
Speaking Saturday at the University of Albany, Johnson – who also does analysis work for ESPN – did some trash-talking of James, whom many believe is the best player in the NBA.
A successful businessman, Johnson said his greatest achievement was putting people to work in minority communities. “There’s going to always be great players in basketball,” he said. “There’s going to always be guys who win championships in the NBA, except LeBron.”
A two-time NBA MVP, James reached the Finals with Cleveland in 2007 and Miami last season, losing both times. In last year’s Finals, he was virtually invisible in the fourth quarter.
“Everybody’s always asking, ‘Who is better between Kobe (Bryant) and LeBron?’” Johnson said. “I’m like, Are you kidding me? I’m like you’re kidding me … Kobe, five championships; LeBron, zero. I love the young man though. I know he’s going to get better in the fourth quarter this year.”
Johnson may have realized the impact of his words and attempted to soften the blow.
“I’m not hating on LeBron,” Johnson said. “He’s a triple-double threat every single game and he’s going to get better.”

That’s hilarious!

ItsVictorOladipoParticipantUnfortunately for Lebron he did not get a chance to get drafted by a team that already had a Hall of Famer at center like Kobe or Magic. Nor did his team get a #1 overall pick a few years after drafting him like the Lakers did with James Worthy.
Last year was his first year playing with other superstars on his team and he ended up going to the finals and losing a hard fought series in 6 games. He is 26 years old and has made two finals appearances, his performances against the Bulls this year proved he could be clutch in the 4th quarter.
Give it time…he’ll get his.

tuck243Participantthis is why LeBron is in the position he is now… He’s going to be 27 next month for starters… Secondly the age doesn’t matter the 9 years spent in the league DOES… Stop giving this grown a$$ man excuses… He doesn’t have time, he doesn’t everyone gives him a out… No one wants to hear that BS…

aamir543ParticipantUm, he’s only been in the league eight years, but I get your point.
Dang, I feel like recasting my vote for Forum Villain. Not like Tuck makes bad posts, I feel his posts are straight foward and to the point, but the point is that he’s a bit harsh.

ItsVictorOladipoParticipantGiving a grown man excuses? Please. Nobody has ever won a championship by themselves. Ever. Not Chamberlain, not Russell, not Jordan and sure as hell not Magic. No matter how much people will say that MJ or Russell or Magic were "clutch" wouldn’t mean a thing if they didn’t have hall of famers around them.
I’m not giving Lebron excuses, I’m calling Magic out for being so quick to rip on LBJ. If Magic honestly thinks he could have won a championship with that team assembled in Cleveland over the past 7 years he’s full of it
Elgin Baylor, Karl Malone and Charles Barkley were all great players who never won a championship and Jerry West, Hakeem Olajuwon, Oscar Robertson and David Robinson are all examples of great players who never won a championship until after their first 8 seasons in the league.

Scottoant93ParticipantI think you guys are missing the point of him just making a joke, but if you guys didn’t read the “I’m not hating on LeBron,” Johnson said. “He’s a triple-double threat every single game and he’s going to get better.”
Trust me im not at all a lebron fan, but theres no denying his talent he has the ability, he just needs to grow the hell up and start focusing on playing games then making dumb publicity stunts such as coughing making fun of dirk, saying im gonna win 7 championships…shut up and stick to nike and just do it. this is what annoys me about him is he has to learn that sometimes the most mature move and biggest dagger to haters to just to be quiet and prove them worng, there will be plenty of time for talking when you raise that trophy, but til then shut up, play your role, and take care of business.
BTW yes everyone needs help on a team, but Lebron has plenty to go around, thats not an excuse anymore, it may have been in cleveland but now he has wade, bosh and probably more FA coming to join him he should have more then enough help to take care of business

PyronParticipantimo i feel the reason why miami’s big 3 didn’t win it all last season was because of spolestra. he could have had better rotations in the finals. miami lost because they were out coached

Scottoant93Participant^^^^ thats true, they had no response to the zone, you would think when you have two great players who are great attacking the rim, you would use it to the advantage but they did the opposite and tried to use their biggest flaw,Shooting. Also Spolestra had to have some of the worst pregame speeches I have ever heard. They were outcoached, but the players themselves also didn’t respond. which im gald because i wanted the mavs to win haha(manly for Kidd)

RUDEBOY_ParticipantMagic is my favorite player of All-Time..I agree with a few things he said..But he was WRONG,for saying ”there will be guys that win championships except Lebron”..That was uncalled for..
ItsDwightHoward made some valid points….Magic was drafted and came to a team that had several All Star caliber players on the roster..
Lebron taking that 2007 team to the finals was a sign of his talents..Back then he showed up in the 4th quarters and dominated some of those games during the playoffs that year…
Unlike alot of people who were excited by him and Wade joining forces…People who really knew the game of basketball, knew the problems having the 2 of them together would cause…They have some of the same weaknesses & same strengths..

simonkildayParticipantGreat comments by dwighthoward. LeBron was truly given a shit sandwich in Cleveland, and he turned it into shit souffle. Scottoant is right also that LeBron needs to focus on his game instead of what his critics say. He seems to be very preoccupied with outside opinions and expectations, and trying to silence his doubters. This strategy always backfires on him and he ends up looking immature. He needs to be driven for himself, not to try to prove anything to anybody, as he seems to be doing right now. I really don’t know what was going through his head during the Finals, or in the Boston series last year, and probably no one ever will. There a lot of guys that are support players that try to act like superstars, but I’ve never seen a superstar try to prove he was a role player. We can talk all we want about what Spoelstra could’ve done differently, but let’s face it, Miami probably wins that series if LeBron brings it.
All that being said, Magic Johnson is the biggest bandwagon dick rider in sports media right now. If something happens Magic goes on record and talks about it like he saw it coming. He was president of the Kobe fan club, and then LeBron won his first MVP, and he was all over the place saying LeBron had supplanted Kobe as the leagues best player. Then when the Lakers won it all, it was all because of Kobe’s "will and determination", not the fact that their highway robbery of Gasol was really the reason they were there in the first place. Whenever LeBron finally wins a title, Magic is going to be the first guy saying LeBron’s the greatest. Magic was one of the best ever, but it’s hard for me to respect what he says anymore.
