boshjonesfordParticipantJust cerious say the league gets cancled for this season – what happens to the employees assoicated with the organization (broadcasters, camaramen, sales managers, coaches, GM) are they still getting paid for doing pretty much nothing this season ??
What about the players??? how does it work say andrea bargnani for example signed a 50mil/5 year contract so does that now become a 4year/40 million doller contract as one year gets cancled out or does the contract get lenthened.
How does the buyout for the players that signed in europe work, so can they opt out in the middle of the season when the nba starts up or are players like deron williams stuck there for a year.
what about the allstar game does the city that own it still keep it next year or does it go to a different city.
what about the plyers that come in next year from the draft, would both the 2011 and 2012 be considered Rookies
Sorry if these wore asked/answered already, i havent been on this site for a while.

IndianaBasketballParticipantIF the season is canceled, the players don’t get paid for the ENTIRE season. They’ll never get that money back either. I don’t know about the coaches, front office, etc though. That’s an interesting question.
I know I wouldn’t be surprised to see a ton of layoffs for lower level employees who work in the arenas, etc. No point to have them around if no games are being played.
And yes, most players have signed European contracts that give them an opt out clause to re-join the NBA once the lockout is lifted. I think China was the only league that wasn’t allowing opt out clauses in the contracts.

MJ FOR LIFE 23ParticipantI feel sorry for the lower level workers, because it is them who will feel the full impact of the lockout, they are the hard working unknowns who won’t have a job to look forward and will struggle to cope with it if there is a lockout. The players are still fine because they are still getting paid millions.

Bmore_DCParticipanthonestly i dont think anyone gets paid if there are no games being played…even the players (and they will never get that money back)…
the one good thing about that though, is that it means losing the whole season is highly unlikely

aamir543ParticipantGreat question BoshJonesFord, I was about to ask the same question about the lengths of contracts getting canceled. Can someone please answer that.
Wow, so if a year really is cut of contracts, than we’ll be two years through the Big Three era without a ring. And another unlucky year, and we’ll be one year away from their player opt-outs, and still no ring.
And your name is a bit outbated so, I think you should change it to BargnaniDeRozanValanciunas.
