A former NBA player and Georgia Tech standout has been charged with shooting a 22-year-old woman to death, Atlanta police said Friday night.

Channel 2 Action News Julian Jones, 23, was killed in a drive-by shooting on Aug. 19. A murder warrant in the slaying has been issued for former Georgia Tech star Javaris Crittenton.
Javaris Crittenton faces a homicide charge in the death of Jullian Jones, according to Carlos Campos, APD spokesman.
Jones was walking with others near 2915 Macon Drive in southwest Atlanta around 10 p.m. Aug. 19 when she was shot, Campos said. She later died from her injuries.
Investigators do not believe Jones was the intended target. Crittenton may have been seeking retaliation after being robbed April 21, 2011, Campos said.
Crittenton was selected by the Los Angeles Lakers in the first round of the 2007 NBA Draft and was traded his rookie year to the Memphis Grizzlies. While playing for the Washington Wizards, Crittenton was involved in a December 2009 locker room incident with then-teammate Gilbert Arenas where the two pulled guns on each other.
On Jan. 25, 2010, Crittenton pleaded guilty and was given a year of probation on a misdemeanor gun possession charge. Two days later, Crittenton and Arenas were suspended for the rest of the season.
Crittenton is former AJC "Mr. Basketball" and high school star at Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy.

But seriously, this is no laughing matter. His chancge of getting back into NBA were already small after the gun incident, and now there’s no chance he gets back in. What a waste of talent!
Does it stay how long he might be imprisoned? Wouldn’t be surprised if he got life in prison. My prayers go out to everyone in the Jones’ family.

If he’s going to be pulling stunts like that, he has the money to at least get someone to do his dirty work for him and make sure to shoot at the right person at least! That said, it’s still stupid. I agree with Perez, but still, I’d like to see more details on the situation. While he was involved in the gun related situation in Washington, this really seems very out of character. He had such a clean slate, 3.5 GPA, and was again just such an intellectual well spoken young man. I’m really bothered by this situation personally.

I want more details and a final ruling before judging his supposed crime.
+1 for all those who didn’t jump the gun to judge a man based on a charge with wavering details. Even given the situation with the guns in the lockerroom, give the man a fair chance before throwing him under the bus.
